Summary: I just had a horrible experience with Canon I thought I'd share with you, hopefully preventing anybody else there to have the same experience.

Last week I bought a Canon scanner CanoScan 5600F online via Officeworks. They delivered the next day (amazing) and I happily installed the scanner, did some test scans and was very happy with the result. In short it all worked fine and I was happy with my new purchase.
Today I turned the scanner on again as I had to make a scan for the business. I thought I would test the buttons on the front (the shortcut buttons) and pressed the one that is supposed to email the scan.
No such luck.
Anyway, to cut a long story short: I spent more than half hour with Canon support on the phone, even escalating it to the manager. They took me through all sorts of installing / uninstalling / turning this off / turning that off until the conclusion was that 'something' was incompatable with the Canon software. And that was that in their opinion.
They were not going to help me out any further, not even the manager was prepared to do anything else. All he kept repeating was that something was incompatable and therefore it wasn't the fault of Canon as their software works fine (!).
I then called Officeworks (a local store) and was told by the duty manager there, that "Of course you can bring it back in and we'll either give you credit or replace it with something else". I even told him that the bin had already been emptied and I don't have anything the scanner came in anymore! No problem he said, we will still happily replace the scanner!
You can imagine my relief!!! I spent more than $250 on this thing, money I really can't afford to just throw away!!
Anyway, hopefully you will be able to avoid Canon for your scanning needs and avoid having dramas with their 'support' centre...
(it's pretty noisy too so I am not unhappy about being able to swap it with a real reason!)
Pros: it's amassing this scanner can do to my old film, the scan picture look even better then the actual print photo after minor photo editing.
Cons: Depend on the dpi use to scan, It's rather slow....

Summary: I love to see my precious film been scan into digital, it give a brand new life to the photos. The Cons is it only provide 1 film holder and I get tired of loading the negative when the scanning complete. It would be much easier to have a spare holder to load the film for standby while scanning. Overall it is a great scanner. The only regret is if i didn't buy it. I'm glad i did. My wife love it too.
Description:With a maximum resolution of 4800 x 9600dpi, this advanced CCD technology scanner has the capacity to deliver scans with very high levels of clarity, photographic detail and with accurate color reproduction. The 48-bit input ensures the accuracy of colors and brings the best out of your images every time. The scanner has the capacity to create 300dpi A4 scans in a remarkably fast time of approximately 11 seconds. Both 35mm film and slide scanning are delivered with exceptional quality. It is possible to scan film straight into your PC or Mac. The inclusion of a high-brightness white LED for reflective scans equals fast operation. This is superbly demonstrated via zero warm-up, so there is no need for the user to wait around before they can begin scanning. This is a sophisticated scanner with many creative functions, but it remains easy to use. Seven EZ buttons are provided - they are all on the front of the scanner - and these allow the most common tasks to be performed with one-click. The buttons cover copy, scan, email and creating PDFs. The buttons can also be configured by the user to suit their individual preferences. Auto scan mode is another creative, yet straightforward feature. The scanner automatically senses what is to be scanned - document or photo - and scans and saves these using settings appropriate to the original. This can be completed from the one-click software menu.
