  Excellent scanner

  Pros: Great fast document scanner and does decent color scans as well. A bargain for the price.

  Cons: does not scan double-sided, but scanners that can reliably scan double-sided cost a lot more than this one.

  Pros: Effortless software installation.
  Fast, accurate and easy to use.
  Half the price of my previous scanner.

  Summary: I have been using an HP scanner for years. It has worked well but I had no idea how much better technology had gotten. I OCRed a 90-page document in about 10 minutes. Absolute accuracy! Beyond expectations. Excellent document feed. I am impressed.

  Unimpressive,Crummy User Interface

  Pros: Decent quality scans, document feeder works ok. Compatible w/64-bit processors.

  Cons: Drivers were a pain to install, required shutting down a number of processes running in the background, took a long time to install. User interface is clunky. Scans are SLOW. File management nonexistent.

  Summary: This scanner was purchased to replace an HP 4850 because IT replaced my computer with a 64-bit OS & the only compatible driver for the HP 4850 was so basic, it was barely functional. Installing the Epson drivers was a pain in the butt and took significantly longer than I would have expected, including errors telling me that processes (not programs, but processes) were running that had to be shut down in order to install. The user interface is non-intuitive & lacks many of the basic features of the HP 4850. Scanning is SLOW, and the options for file management (source folders, ability to rename the file during the scan process, etc) are absent. Scan quality is good, and the equipment seems to be of good quality, but I am disappointed.

  After 2 months of use, I would change my rating to 0 Stars, if CNET would let me. The GT-1500 software frequently locks up & as stated in the original post, the user interface is horrible. I use a scanner 6-12 times a day for my business, and I am now to the point where I use the office copier/scanner (Konica) across the building instead of the Epson GT-1500 sitting next to my computer.
  
  I guess I can thank Epson for keeping me active.
  
  I am in the process of looking for a suitable replacement.

  Great Scanner. Very short life.

  Pros: Great and fast scanner and good bundled software, but its interface is somewhat rigid and limiting. My $80 Canon (no ADF)interface is many times over more user friendly than the Epson's.

  Cons: It dies before 15 months. One worked hard and lasted 13 months. We replaced it with the same model. The cost had gone up almost 50% on most sites. It died after 14 months. No guarantee available. Poorly designed single roller invites skew feeding.
