Great document scanner and works with Snow Leopard
by jaykappmeier on January 23, 2011
Pros: It is fast, and compact. When closed it takes very little desktop space. A recent software patch (automatically comes up when you install the scanner) makes it compatible with Snow Leopard. I am running OSX 10.6.6 and it works easily.
Cons: When scanning one sided documents, if there is any bleed through to the other side it will scan it also necessitating an additional step to delete that page once you have saved the pdf file. This may also be true of other scanners.
Summary: I found installation to be straight forward and simple. It has a variety of settings that you can use to customize your scans. It offers a few ways to work, ...
Summary: I found installation to be straight forward and simple. It has a variety of settings that you can use to customize your scans. It offers a few ways to work, including OCR modes, and comes bundled with very useful software. Since installation I have scanned in a few hundred pages and had only one paper jam. It is good about letting you start where you were when the jam occurred. Duplex scanning is something that is essential if you are going to work through a lot of paper and this scanner does it well. I loaded 40 pages into the sheet feeder and it scanned them all quickly and without a problem.
While it is the default mode, I do not recommend just scanning paper into a default folder and letting the ScanSnap software name the file. The result will be a string of numbers (date and time) that you may not recognize when it comes to searching for the file. I recommend spending the time to rename those files.
I scanned a photograph mixed in with other paper documents and it did a credible job of doing that, at least for viewing on the screen.
It comes bundled with Adobe Acrobat Pro 8.0 but works well with the Adobe Acrobat 9.4.1 which is installed on my Mac.
I have not explored all the software and settings options available but I am happy to say that I was scanning documents to pdf files within 45 minutes of opening the box.
The only minor complaint I can mention is that one sided documents that bleed through the other side of the page will be scanned and you have to delete those pages later after saving the file. Perhaps there is a way around this but I have not found it. This minor problem is certainly not significant enough to deter me from recommending this scanner.
The scan snap manager software is reliable. Once you set it up, it is ready to go when you open the scanner. I set mine up to send the scan to the Adobe Acrobat application on my iMac. Once the scan is complete the file is there almost instantly. Then it is just a matter of choosing an OCR mode, ( I choose to have Acrobat recognize text in OCR and in English only), naming and saving the file.
My bottom line is the combination of hardware and software in this scanner return very good value for the price.2 out of 3 users found this user opinion helpful.

Essential for Small / Paperless office
by SFLAtty on June 23, 2010
Pros: Fast. Not expensive. Rarely jams. Decent quality outputs. Comes with good software. Small
Cons: Odd sizes won't work in the sheet feeder and long documents tend to have problems. Could complain about roller depressions in the original, but they are barely noticeable.
Summary: I use this for a small solo practice law firm. I have this, a laser printer, an online fax account and high speed internet to do almost everything that a ...
Summary: I use this for a small solo practice law firm. I have this, a laser printer, an online fax account and high speed internet to do almost everything that a larger office can do as far as document production and paperless file retention.
It works fine with my Mac but I do not run Snow Leopard. I've read that the bugs have been resolved. -
Not fully functional with Snow Leopard
by Wanderly_X on November 12, 2009
Pros: Before Snow Leopard debuted it was a good scanner.
Cons: It's billed as a scanner for Mac, yet, much of the functionality was lost when Snow Leopard debuted.
Summary: A Scanner for the Mac that doesn't work with Snow Leopard? No thanks. Avoid it.

Not a very smart scanner for Mac
by Thatsmel on February 22, 2012
Pros: Since I want to get rid of file cabinet, I bought this product. What I found about this product is not 100% impressive. If you have a double-sided and you want it as one file in PDF, you can do that. (Setting to "Scanning side: Duplex Scanning").
Cons: But you can't do that with 10 various pages such as Receipt, Billing statement, Letter etc. If you want one of these 2-sided 10 pages into one file, first you have to generate 1 PDF per one page and then merge two into one file OR One at a time scan!
Summary: I am waiting for Neatdesk to arrive so I can test it. I like this product because of "FAST" and you have several choices: email it, save it to Evernote, ...
Summary: I am waiting for Neatdesk to arrive so I can test it. I like this product because of "FAST" and you have several choices: email it, save it to Evernote, save it to doc, save it as in JPEG file, save it to iPhoto, etc.. But I could do that with Neatdesk only if it is an intuitive product.
$495 for this and $499 for iPhone. Which one is brilliant + most intutive product? Geez.0 out of 1 users found this user opinion helpful.

Built on a tradition of reliability and innovation that has made Fujitsu a market leader in personal and professional document scanners, the ScanSnap S1500M breaks new ground in delivering even higher performance and easier operation for Mac users in the home or at the office. There's speed and then there's speed with quality. The ScanSnap S1500M has been engineered to deliver even faster performance with up to 20 pages per minute in color, grayscale, or black and white; however, S1500M remains just as fast when scanning at a higher resolution of 200 and even 300 dpi color or grayscale. ScanSnap S1500M has several automatic features to help ensure scans look their best without operator intervention before or after they scan. ScanSnap S1500M is now equipped with an ultrasonic multi-feed detection sensor that can be turned on to help operators avoid losing images.
