Hunk of just get the 7000 instead.

Pros: It might work as a boat anchor. It worked for a while.
Cons: In just over 9000 pages scanned it failed and it isn't the first one to fail me.

Summary: This is number three of four that I have of this particular model. ALL have had major issues. Only one is left. Of the ones that failed the failed they failed shortly after the warranty ran out. The reason the fourth one hasn't failed yet I think is because it is hardly ever used. The first one the ADF motor went out on it. The second one the PSU blew out on it. And the third one somehow lost its firmware and it needs to be reloaded but HP doesn't have a way to reload it.
I have four scanjet 7000s and they run way more paper, cost less, run faster, easier to take care of, take up much less space and weigh much less. And the biggest plus to a 7000 is that it is about impossible to jamb. If you are doing thousands and thousands of pages skip the crappy over priced 8000 series and get the Scanjet 7000. Don't believe me buy one of each and see for your self the 8000 sucks in every respect and can't go the distance like the 7000 can.
