Not what was advertised, version 5 is useless for PC
by TheRealAgent309 on November 18, 2011
Pros: Software interface and "Tree view" of your data is very intuitive. Was exactly what I wanted for organizing my paperwork.
Cons: It is not functional from a PC users point of view. Documents are not stored in an economical fashion (1 page document, mostly white space, took 64.3 MB. Database has a 40 gig limit. Has to be installed on C:\ drive.
Summary: It's all about the size restrictions on the PC version. I have heard that the Mac version does not have these limits. You can not move the database (without ...
Summary: It's all about the size restrictions on the PC version. I have heard that the Mac version does not have these limits. You can not move the database (without tricking the program, and using Windows 7 folder redirects). 40 gig limit, and I've put in 77 documents, and I have used up 2.1% of that limit. At this rate, it will only allow me to store between 5000 to 6000 documents. That sounds like a lot, but it's not. It's a little over 2 years worth of receipts, bills, insurance policies, HSA / bank statements, etc. There is no way to archive the old data. Overall it's just very inefficient, and not useable for someone with a need to store more than 5000 documents. There has been no response from Neat support / staff in the Neat Community boards about the database restrictions. I would NOT recommend purchasing this product until the storage algorithms are fixed, and the size restrictions are corrected on the PC version.

Check Quicken 2012 compatibility before purchase!

Pros: Potential of the product

Summary: I REALLY wanted (and needed!) this solution to work. However, after trying to tame the Paper Monster by purchasing an up-to-date version of Quicken, an external hard drive, NeatDesk, and spending two days trying to make it all work together, I learned that NeatDesk is NOT COMPATIBLE with Quicken 2012!! There is currently NOTHING on the box, display, or the website's technical specs to indicate it is only compatible with Quicken 2011 or earlier; this info is buried in the Support files. NeatWorks is aware of the problem but isn't publicizing it to potential customers...after purchase, they will suggest waiting for a fix to be available at some undetermined future date. So...if you get/have Quicken 2012, check for updated specs or with the company to be SURE you can TRY to make it work as advertised!

Has the life of the size of your C drive
by rocousa on June 16, 2011
Pros: The cons are that many that no pros can be listed
Cons: You can only install and use the database on your system drive normally drive "C:". The database can not be installed in any other drive so whatever space free you have on C drive, is the size of the database you can hold.
After scanning about 20 pages,Summary: This is an expensive piece of equipment with very limited life due its installation. Not good. DO NOT BUY it

DOES NOT WORK WITH QUICKEN 2012!!!!!
by JoeTCM on November 16, 2011

Summary: UPGRADED QUICKEN TO 2012 WHICH RENDERED NEAT DESK USELESS AS IT IS INCOMPATIBLE WITH. CONTACTED NEAT CUSTOMER SUPPORT. WHAT A WASTE OF TIME. THEY HAVE NO PRODUCT KNOWLEDGE AND ARE VERY RUDE. THEY ADVERTISE THAT IT WORKS WITH QUICKEN, BUT ONLY EARLIER VERSIONS. WHEN ASKED IF A PATCH OR SOFTWARE UPGRADE WAS IN THE WORKS, THEY CAN ONLY SAY THAT THEY DO NOT KNOW. ERIC IN CUSTOMER SERVICE EVEN SAID "WELL IT LOOKS LIKE IT IS NOT GOING TO WORK FOR YOU, WHAT DO YOU WANT ME TO DO ABOUT IT?" THAT IS HOW THEY TAKE OWNERSHIP OVER MISADVERTISING AND AN INCOMPATIBILITY. IT IS CLEAR THAT NEAT KNOWS THIS IS INCOMPATIBLE WITH QUICKEN 2012 AND KNOW THEIR ADVERTISING IS A LIE. YET, THEY DO NOT SEEM TO REALLY CARE. DO NOT BUY THIS IF YOU ARE USING QUICKEN 2012, UNLESS YOU WANT A $400 PAPERWEIGHT1!!!!!

Not for heavy users very basic - only works on C drive
by Ratman01mn on August 22, 2011
Pros: The software is easy to learn and use. The scanner takes up very little room on your desk and is a full color dual sided scanner. Will auto scan and determine the type of document as well. Easy feed of receipts, business cards and full sheets of paper.
Cons: The software will only work on the C: drive, it can not be changed. If your drive is partitioned like many, you will run out of room very quickly. The scanning process is quick but the auto recognition is very slow. I scanned 25 pages and came back in s

Summary: This is a basic scanner for a pure novice computer user who has a lot of time on their hands to wait for the processing. You must have massive amounts of space on your C: drive for the software and database as it will not install elsewhere. If you are planning on scanning more than 5 documents a day and have less than an hour to do it, this is not the choice for you. Processing is slow and the software sometimes takes too many liberties on the auto detect mode.

Great idea, storage restriction makes in unusable
by grenik on April 18, 2013
Pros: Fast scanning and good recognition of the documents being scanned. The scanner put 80% of my receipts into its software with the correct total and sales tax. Not perfect, but not poor performance. Easy to correct manually.
Cons: The software will not instal to a network drive. I have an SSD in my computer and then a NAS for all storage. Software only installs to the local drive. I can store a few document and that is all. Makes the device unusable.
Summary: I logged into the Neat website forums and this has been a topic of dissatisfaction for a long time. They tell you to purchase their cloud solution for sharing. It ...
Summary: I logged into the Neat website forums and this has been a topic of dissatisfaction for a long time. They tell you to purchase their cloud solution for sharing. It would not help me.
It appears that they want the revenue from their cloud solution so they will not support network drives. I guess that is their choice, but it seems short sighted.
I was able to return easily to my local vendor. -
Rating here NeatDesk here based on flaws w/ QuickBooks
by djchapin2012 on November 21, 2012
Pros: fast, efficient and accurate who knew!
Cons: Quick Books and Quicken haven't modernized their programs since 2003 to work with database software dah! and don't import sales receipt. Whose in business w/o sales?

NeatWorks-A sad tale of good product gone bad.
by jdhouse4 on August 22, 2012
Pros: When I started using NeatWorks back in 2008, NeatWorks was a stable, reliable product that a small business could build a paperless office around without loosing sleep. No more.
Cons: Use at your own risk. If the scanner doesn't stress you, the Neatworks software will.

Summary: Whether it's the fact that the ADF scanner driver hasn't been upgraded since 10.6, and yes, we Mac users are up to 10.8 now, or the NeatWorks software that insists on rebuilding its document library database very nearly every time you open it, one theme emerges; Neat.com has a product that has devolved badly over the last few years. Left behind are folks like you and me who built their business around this product and are now forced to transition to others. NeatWorks, we're gonna miss ya.

MOST COSTLY DATALOSS IN MY LENGTHY HISTORY OF COMPUTING
by ingoodcompany on July 4, 2012
Pros: AS OF JULY 1 2012 this product is completely useless, having corrupted its own data, crashing on startup, sluggish scanning & retrieval performance, severe restriction on database storage options & tech support that blames the user for its failing
Cons: The 32Gb limit on their DB is a disaster waiting to happen to YOU; and NEVER deal with their level one support staff as their attempts are based on a horrific lack of information available only to higher level reps - GET ESCALATED IMMEDIATELY & pray.
Summary: I've lost two years of scanned information, valuable history, personal and business records, with virtually no chance of ever recovering them. Not only would I not recommend this product, ...
Summary: I've lost two years of scanned information, valuable history, personal and business records, with virtually no chance of ever recovering them. Not only would I not recommend this product, I am actively working to ensure that others aren't duped. BUY AT YOUR OWN RISK. The company has a culture of misleading tech support, dodging and blame. Here's their last comment to after they found my NEATWORKS db corrupt:

Response Via Email(Tony W) - 07/02/2012 05:35 PM Hi Rob,
I'm sorry to hear that you are still running into trouble. It's possible that your computer's hard drive is or was having an issue and could be why the Neat Data files on the local disk are corrupt. Also, if you were making the Neat backups directly to the network storage device there could have been a communication issue that caused an issue with the backup. We suggest sending the backup directly to the local disk first and then you can copy or move the file over to your storage device."
In a single comment, they've dismissed it problem despite knowing that no other files on my computer were corrupted, the hard drive tests out perfectly, and that the NeatWorks files were corrupted BEFORE the backup or storage on the NAS. This is what it looks like when they wash their hands of the problem. They will leave you like this, too.
If you have any value for your data, do not trust this hardware, software or this company. You will lose, and lose it all eventually. -
BUY AT YOUR PERIL

Cons: BEWARE of software updates and upgrades and losing your prior data!

Summary: This product has issues. Read OTHER REVIEWS. You will see just as many bad reviews for this equipment and its software as you will see favorable. This is an expensive system touted to solve all your filing and tracking of expenses. It is nothing but a headache with NO CORPORATE SUPPORT OR SERVICE. Once your 30-day trial is up, it is YOURS! You're stuck with it and good luck trying to work out software issues. They will not accept return of the machine after 30 days. In short, do your research BEFORE you buy an expensive product like this. The red flags are there. I wish I'd seen them before I got mine.
