The good: Soundproofing; XM satellite radio.
The bad: Low fuel economy for its class; lacks dashboard electronics.
The bottom line: Beyond a few basics, the Chevrolet Cobalt LT offers little of interest for the tech-minded buyer.
At the top of the sedan line is our test car, the 2005 Chevrolet Cobalt LT, which is oriented toward comfort and convenience, with standard leather seating and automatic transmission, as well as OnStar and XM satellite radio available. Like almost all the other Cobalt models, it uses the 2.2-liter Ecotec four-cylinder engine, which is one of the most powerful in the compact class, with 145 horsepower and 155 pound-feet of torque. At the top of the coupe line is the SS, which seriously emphasizes performance with a 200-horsepower, supercharged 2.0-liter version of the Ecotec and a sports-tuned suspension. But that's another car for another review. The base price of the Cobalt LT is $18,760 including destination charge. Our test car had $1,850 worth of options, and more are available.

Didn't feel comfortable riding in this one

Summary: I was given one of these as a loaner when my own car was being serviced. There was no mistaking this car for my Acura. I've driven a number of small cars, mostly with manual transmission. I always felt comfortable in those Nissan or Honda products, but I sure didn't feel that way with this Chevy.
One thing that really bothered me was the placement/height of brake pedal. It seemed as though the gas pedal was so low and the brake was too high. The first time I went to brake my foot banged into the side of the brake pedal and I had to lift my foot to reach the top of the pedal. It scared me a bit since I didn't know if I had enough time to relocate the pedal. Therefore everytime I had to brake I had to really concentrate on my foot action to get my foot on top of the pedal. Perhaps I'd get used to this or the pedals could be adjusted, but I was uncomfortable and didn't feel safe.
I don't think I'd ever seriously consider buying this car. Besides the brake pedal issue, it just felt too small on the road with all the big SUV's. And I think for just a little more money, based on the MSRP, you can get an entry level Honda Civic. -
A Nice "Little" Car

Summary: I've rented this car twice. This is GMs smallest US-made car, but it is no longer exactly, err.....small (3000 lbs). Appearance is improved over the Cavalier. Power is reasonable. The seats seem too flat to be comfortable at first, but actually work pretty well on long drives. Handling is not as crisp as on "competitor" Corolla -- although at list price the cost will exceed my Camry ($19,000). It feels solid on the road. At lower speeds noise is well-controlled, but at freeway speeds it is somewhat excessive (but not excessive for smaller cars.) Gas mileage is a little disappointing. I was getting about 27 on mostly highway driving. I like having the knobs, switches and dial in familiar places. Engine noise on acceleration seems more muted than other other hard working fours. The more expensive model has a lot of "fancy" touches. (Power mirrors, intermittant wipers, oil change indicator, rack & pinion steering, front struts, cruise, power windows, front pretensioners, keyless entry) But, all in all, I would consider it a very good car. Personally, I'd probably choose it over the crisper handling Focus or Mazda.

A very nice small car

Summary: This is an economy car - not a luxury car, but it is very comfortable and a huge leap forward from the Cavalier. I like the way it drives and handles, and it is quiet as well. Gas mileage is decent too. If a V-6 were available, I would opt for it, but this car moves fairly well for a 4 cylinder.

A very decent mid-range sedan with a powerful 4 cylinder and some extra creature comforts.

Pros: Traction control, heated seats, 6 speaker Pioneer sound system, real leather interior, Onstar, and more.
Cons: A well rounded, mid priced car
