Cons: It's not a woman.

Summary: Ok, did the person who wrote this review even drive the car? The car you reviewed is the Evo IX MR, not a regular Evolution. Unless this article was written by the Jason Blair of car reviews, since a lot of the information here is fictional anyways. The Sti is a great car, but to say it outperforms the Evo is like saying the 84 Mets are a better team than the 2004 Red Sox. Are you listening Wayne, or is it Jason?
Where did you get your horsepower information? The IX went from 276 last year on the 8 to 286 this year on the IX, not from 260 to 280. And 5.7 seconds to 100kph (because that's what 62 miles an hour is, but who uses that in the good 'ole USA. We use 60 mph here, FYI)? Whose grandmother was driving the car? EIther you got the slowest Evo in the world or your fact gathering is very, very sloppy. And the IX has a revised turbo, but again, I guess that kind of information is reserved for reviewers who do some kind of research into what they're writing about.
And the point of MIVEC isn't for fuel economy, it's to increase performance. While there may be some fuel efficiency improvement, the big bonus comes from spooling the turbo quicker by adjusting the intake cam.
As for electronics, how about ACD and EBD (Active Center Differential and Electronic Brake Distribution)? Last time I checked, Mario Andretti didn't need Bluetooth in his race car and that's what the Evolution is--a race-bred rally car for the street.
The people who get this car 'get it.' Wayne apparently doesn't, and I'm sorry Wayne. Maybe you'll be happier in your Camry.

Summary: To hear someone diss the car because it doesn?t have some of the comforts that you can get in a Camry makes me laugh. The part that really got to me was the mention of no GPS unit. As an owner of an Evo myself I was mad that I didn?t get a rally trip computer and Risto Mannisenmaki (Four-times FIA World Rally Champion Tommi Makinen's co-driver....if you don?t know who this is you should not be looking at an Evo) to ride with me when I get on some technical roads but I guess this would be tough for all Evo owners. This car rocks but please learn what it is about and what it means to the rest of the world before you complain about having a GPS unit installed from the factory.

Summary: Its amazing that you can say that this car is behind the WRX STI. Aside from comfort features, this car is amazing. The fact they got 286bhp from a 2.0L I-4 is amazing. The WRX STI uses a 2.5L 4 cylinder engine. Sure the ride is harsh and road noise intrusion can be alot at times, you are paying for performance!! Just to think about 2 years ago a radio was an option in this vehicle. Most people who buy this sports sedan arn't worried about how many watts the stereo can blast at your ears at a time, but how quick you can get around the track.

Summary: Ok first of all...CNET DO NOT REVIEW ANYMORE CARS!
This car is for the hardcore populus only. It's not for everyone but for those that love a one of a kind drive this car is for you. If you're into that "luxury sports" area...sorry...there's really no such thing. To cover what the "editor" forgot to mention:
Specifications
Engine
Type: Inline-4, Turbocharged
Displacement cu in (cc): 122 (1997)
Power bhp (kW) at RPM: 286(213) / 6500
Torque lb-ft (Nm) at RPM: 289(392) / 3500
Redline at RPM: 7000
Brakes & Tires
Brakes F/R: ABS, vented disc/vented disc
Tires F-R: 235/45 R17
Driveline: All Wheel Drive
Exterior Dimensions & Weight
Length Ã? Width Ã? Height in: 178.5 Ã? 69.7 Ã? 57.1
Weight lb (kg): 3285 (1490)
and a 0-60 in a lil over 4 seconds.
As for technology the Evolution has something called Active Center Differential where the driver can select how the center differential acts in different driving conditions at the touch of a button (rite next to the guage cluster on the left side) but CNet didn't say that....cus they were too mesmerized by the F***in dash!

Summary: Dont listen to the ass wipe editor who reviewed the car. Clearly he has no idea what he's talking about. One proof of that is the fact he can not even get the name of the car correctly (he calls it "Eye Ex" when its a "Nine"). The car is awesome and I cant say enough good things about it. Before I purchased my Evolution IX I shopped around and compared with the Subaru STI, Audi S4, Nissan 350Z, BMW M3, and a few others. No other car can even compare with the performance that the Evo produces and the aftermarket potential that it has. Yes some of the other cars like the Audi and BMW have some nicer interior features then the Evo, but that?s not what this car is about. The Evo is a true performance car with no extra crap that?s not needed. Event the crazy looks with hood vent, large rear spoiler, front mount intercooler, and even the sonic the hedge hog look on the top are all there for performance reasons. Go drive the car it will put a HUGE smile on your face I promise you that.
Also here are some of the features that he doesn?t really cover:
-All wheel drive with Active Center Diff.
-Limited Slip Differential and a Rear Mechanical 1.5 Limited-Slip Differential.
-Brembo Brakes (4 piston front & 2 piston rear) with brake force distribution
-Front Mount Intercooler to cool off intake charge temp.
-MIVEC - a form of variable valve timing to that the engine produces more torque lower in the power band and better gas mileage
-New larger revised turbo - TD05HR-16G6-10.5T
(Twin Scroll Turbine)
-Built in launch control
-286 HP & 289 TQ
-Lightweight 17" Wheels

Pros: Performance oriented handling & performance like that of super cars. Excellent feel. Great seats. No gadgets like traction, stability controls.
Cons: Not exactly the 'best backed car in the world', interior materials, quality that of a sub 20K car.

Summary: As others posted, the cNet review of this car is more of a joke than a true review of this car. I'm not going to re-iterate that. Please read any other car magazine review to find out the truth and purpose about this car. I had the EVO XIII for 3 years and now have the IX. This is the first car where I did not have to change the suspension or do engine modifications to make the car sporty enough for my liking and I can still take my kids along for the ride. Drove the STI's and it felt more disconnected from the road than an EVO, but has better quality interior and low end torque. The only major downside of this is car is the 'best backed cars in the world part' - this is mostly lip service. Buy the car assuming no or limited warranty and remember that this IS a sports car so expect sports car like pricing for parts and wear out rates. If you plan on driving with the same brake pads or tires for 5 years like on a Civic, forget that here and be prepared to pay several times more for the parts too. You have to pay to play. For me, it is worth every penny. Other than STI and EVO, there is no car that can match this performance level in the 30K range. Your next choices of equivalent performance are in a much higher price range. Anyway, I can easily write a 10 page review on this car, both good, bad and improvements, but I have to stop somewhere. My point is that this car is not an all-purpose car, it has one purpose only with some sacrifices to be able to achieve the performance oriented goal.

Summary: Who needs radio in a performance car? I just want to listen to the WOOSH sound every time I shift gears and the deep thunderlike sound the catback makes under acceleration. 286HP stock can become 400HP with some mods and a some cash, just to keep those pesky modified fast Honda's at bay.
If I want music or DVD, I use my Explorer. If I need a GPS, I buy one for $150 or better, read a map. In PR you don't need a GPS. Our Island is so small you can go from one side to the other in just 3.5 hours with reasonable traffic. If you get lost here you are a moron and don't deserve a driver's license.
You better keep reviewing XBOX360, PS3, computer hardware and gizmo's. Stay away from performance cars. He he he
Oh, and check your reviewing wizard. Out of the box? Documentation? That was fun.
