2011 Hyundai Equus Ultimate price range: $64,500.00
- Reviewed by: Wayne Cunningham

The good: The 2011 Hyundai Equus offers such luxuries as rear seat entertainment, air suspension, a superb Lexicon audio system, and a small refrigerator. Driver assistance features include adaptive cruise control and a forward-facing camera.
The bad: Relying on a big V-8 engine for power, the Equus gets mediocre fuel economy. The navigation system only shows 2D maps, and audio sources are limited.
The bottom line: Although it does not push the tech envelope, the 2011 Hyundai Equus has a well-rounded set of features and comes in at an extremely low price for this segment.

Its funny isnt it - in the 1950s BMW made 3 wheel cars that were just dreadful, i know, i owned one, yet this company has now risen to "cult" status. Even Mercedes were not that great 25 years ago. Yet this reviewer writes off the Equus because it is a Hyundai.

I own both a Mercedes and a Hyundai, (have also owned several BMWs). I bought the Hyundai as a value purchase, not really expecting much. However, I have been amazed at the quality of the vehicle, its quiet, reliable, nothing rattles, the engine is powerful and refined, the doors close with a nice clunk. In contrast, my Mercedes gearbox failed after 3 years and 26000 miles and because it was out of warranty I had to argue with Mercedes for them to pay 50% of the cost. The Germans and Japanese manufacturers should be worried, because the Koreans are catching up, they offer very good value, combined with a long warranty, and do not just trade on their name to sell a well made product. Car snobs beware, the Koreans are here.3 out of 3 users found this user opinion helpful.

Summary: To the guy above slamming the car. Go and read the reviews from Automobile, Motor Trend, Car and Driver... They all praise the car's build and feature set. ITs not as refined as the others, but its also been reviewed as saying don't pass it up, if you are interested in teh features. Considering this is Hyundai's 1st attempt into luxury in this class, they did a good job. A few years ago, even the Mercedes were slipping when Chrysler owned them. Unless you own and have driven the car, you shouldn't slam it on your preconceived notions.

Something to consider in the future but not right now.
by WantSomethingNewer on July 2, 2012
Pros: Bang for the buck!!!
Cons: Still somewhat not as desireble to drive (many personal factors involved) Still more room to improve and refine.

Summary: I watched the video, I check out the specs and it is considered "dirt cheap" compared to other luxury cars. However, I just can't shake the feeling of "nothing good comes cheap". And I think it's just me. If I have a family of three or four, I would definetely consider this car, and hopefully by then the Equus will make all the right changes. (Especially driver seat luxury, because I don't think why the car has all the perks on the back seat? Really? lol.)

What I can say is that the LDSAS is one of, if not the best audio system I've heard in an automobile, and I've heard quite a few.

Summary: I have been suprised at some of the reviews on the Equus. I am a car nut, love them all. I like to see what a company will build for what price. I priced an S-class Mercedes with the same options as the Equus and it came out to $109,000. I priced the 7 Seriers BMW out at $95,000. Equus, $65400. Not a rocket scientist, but I see some real value here. I have driven the other guys and they are nice cars, but have you ever paid for an oil change? Both come in around $500 to get your car back with all the extras the dealers charge. I asked serveral dealers the price for an Equus change, most said around $85.00 with full synthetic oil. Trasmission oil change happens at 100,000 miles and is pricey all all models, around $1200 due the special oils that go into the ZF transmission. I just like the feel of the car, the soft leather, the suede headliner, the leather dash. I feel so important when I drive the vehicle, yet I don't feel I paid too much. Just my two cents, I think its a hell of a car and can't wait for the other models to come out.

Lexus Price - Daewoo driving dynamics
by shotnoise on May 14, 2011
Pros: Lots of interior room, lots of interior gadgets, comfortable rear seats.
Cons: Sluggish... well, sluggish EVERYTHING! Sluggish acceleration; slow, imprecise steering; sluggish suspension response leading to truly terrible road manners; grabby, ineffective brakes; uncomfortable driver's seat; antiquated cabin tech (particularly the

Summary: Although Hyundai makes a big deal of having air suspension, there's a reason that most who use air springs use them as a load-leveling aid for standard coil springs - the intrinsic effect of having balloons support the corners of your car is that the springs are overly soft and nervous in straight-line travel and tend to become overly stiff when "fully" compressed. This, along with the lack of roll control and overly soft suspension bushings on this car tend to make the inside wheels meander around aimlessly and lose contact with the road at random intervals during any attempt at hard cornering.
The navigation system seems to match the rest of the car - slow, flat, inaccurate old technology. The interior around it shows a definite lack of organizational skills, with controls scattered around the cabin with little apparent thought for their intended use.
The brakes tend to be very sensitive and grabby in light application but are only marginal in hard application and fade alarmingly after repeated hard applications. They are also quite hard to modulate - particularly when trail braking during efforts at spirited driving on winding roads. Combined with the suspension (or lack thereof), the brakes can make this car truly frightening to drive at even the speed limit on mountain roads.
The back seats may be comfortable (I'll have to rely on my passenger's assessments), but the driver's seat is too soft, provides very poor lateral support and left me with a severe backache after only 30 minutes behind the wheel.
There is a reason that the Lexicon stereo system "used to be used by Rolls Royce" rather than "is currently used by...". While the stereo is not bad it is most certainly NOT on par with the Mark Levinson audio system offered by Lexus, much less the Bang & Olufsen stereo system offered by Audi.
Finally, the car is as bland and boring a vehicle as I have ever seen. The lines scream "FORGET ME" as loudly as they can and the color options appear to have been chosen as camouflage - insuring that you and your car will be forgotten as soon as you go by. This will probably become the preferred car of the witness protection plan as soon as the government sees one.
