  Great Car but Pricey

  Summary: After driving just about every car in the entry luxury class, I bought the new BMW. It had the best balance of performance, comfort, and style.
  The interior is a big upgrade from previous versions but still a little plain. I can't for the life of me understand another reviewer calling it "too busy". The seats are very comfortable and it's roomy inside. The exterior looks sleek and sporty. The engine and transmission are wonderful. I was skeptical about BMW going from a 6 to a 4 turbo but they did a great job. The 8 speed automatic is so good that I bought it despite driving manuals for the last 25 years. The car also gets great gas mileage (supposedly) but I cannot confirm that yet.
  On the downside, many commonplace options cost extra and it's not hard to see the price of the car jump up quickly. I also wasn't thrilled by the start stop but I didn't experience the rocking back and forth that the Cnet tester did. I didn't even notice the car shut off. The is however a slight shudder at restart and I would turn the feature off for spirited driving. I bought the base model with what I consider necessities (sunroof, heated seats and heated steering wheel) and kept he price under $40k out the door. At that price, it was by far the best car for the money.

  You shouldn't put much basis in a BMW review by CNET

  Pros: The new 3-series has finally lost the choppy-looking front end, but still offers the near-perfect handling of a rear-wheel-drive sedan, and is still available with a manual transmission.

  Cons: Red rear turn signals, instead of amber, mean your lane changes and hazard lamps may not be immediately distinguishable to other drivers - a strange trend with the German cars sold in the USA lately. Electric-power steering robs steering feel.

  Summary: CNET's review states, "... buyers of the BMW 328i have, in the past, tended to be less serious about driving and more into the status of the blue-and-white roundel." Nothing could be further from the truth. If you are a serious driver, the 3-series (and 1-series) have been the only choice in the BMW line-up since the demise of the E-39 5-series in 2003. Yes, there are a lot of status-symbol-driven BMW owners that can only afford a 3-series instead of the more expensive 5-, 6-, or 7-series, but to say that 3-series drivers is for non-serious driver really calls this review into question.

  UGLY! Cnet got it all wrong!

  Pros: Less Gas, More room...

  Cons: Ugly, interior is too busy, expensive with options but since I'm not getting one it doesn't affect me this time...
