The good: The Dayton Audio B652 bookshelf speakers sound great and are available for under $50.
The bad: The Daytons aren't the most attractive speakers you'll see. The spring-clip connectors don't securely grip the speaker wire, so an inadvertent tug might yank it out.
The bottom line: The Dayton Audio B652 speakers are the best-sounding stereo speakers you can buy for under $50.

Best speaker below $100.
by half_n_half17 on May 21, 2012
Pros: Imaging and clarity
Cons: I found the bass to be accurate, but thin. Speakers fell flat during some rock albums. Hip-Hop fans should pair with a sub or pony up for a more expensive speaker.

Summary: I've had these Dayton's for about 5 months now and I use them in near-field listening at my home-office desk. I paired them with a Dayton T-amp (same chip as the Lepai amp) and they are plenty loud for my space. The best attribute about these speakers is their stereo imaging. They provide a wide sound stage and instruments place cleanly and distinctly across it. These speakers are a bit on the "bright" side, but they are not harsh like some other cheapo speakers I've heard. While I found the bass to be pretty thin, it is definitely accurate. I'd imagine that these would blend well with an 8" sub in a sealed box for a bit of extra low end punch. Theses are not "muddy" crap speakers and if you are willing to live within their limitations they are the best speakers below $100 I have ever heard... including some of my own designs. I agree with Steve in that you probably won't be getting a better speaker until you spend in the $140-200 range.

Better than speakers 5 times the price
by Zeos_Pantera on November 29, 2012
Pros: No Replacement for Displacement. The 6.5in Drivers in these make BIG sound. Most other cheap speakers only sport 4in and if you are lucky 5.25. The sealed box means you can push them HARD. Having no crossover is better then having a cheap crossover.
Cons: Not the prettiest speakers (with the grills on). The Spring clips on the back are OK and CAN ACCEPT a banana clip but a 5-way would be better.

Summary: I have used these speakers since Steve Gutenberg gave them a place in the "TOP SPEAKERS UNDER $1,000" post. I Recommend them all the time and have probably purchased eight pair personally. Not great at low volume but at HIGH VOLUME they come alive and the lightweight box comes into play. They measure 4ohm with my multi-meter and I have personally found stacking 2 or 3 of these per channel and wiring them in series can make a pretty mean and efficient line array. It was something I have always wanted to do but never had access to A LOT of good matching speakers. You can't build these for their price and if you don't have a pair just to see what all the fuss is about. Get one.

This lil guy is on sale for $30 at parts-express.com
by troyoverton on May 31, 2012
Pros: How can you go wrong? A better connection on the back would be a plus, but at $30 you can get that part and replace it yourself.
Cons: There were no cons that I could find.
Summary: There's no way you'll find a better sounding speaker at this price.

Good sounding speakers for under $50..????
by sharp8 on May 22, 2012
Pros: These things are cleaner sounding than you'd expect , and will fit in nicely in most living rooms or bedrooms . There small for a speaker with a 6 inch woofer , but that just makes them more versatile !
Cons: The base isn't a con really , teamed-up with an inexpensive powered sub , you'll have a nice sounding cheap 2.1 system .

Summary: Most of the time Parts Express has these speakers on sale for $29.00 a pair = 10$ shipping ; you'd be lucky to get a 4' 2 way for that price ( with much less base & power handling ) . For $ 40 dollars , what have you got to loose !
