- The iPhone 3G delivers on its promises by adding critical features and sharper call quality. The iTunes App Store is pretty amazing, and the 3G support is more than welcome. Critical features still are missing, and the battery depletes quickly under heavy use, but the iPhone 3G is a big improvement over the original model.

The good: The Apple iPhone 3G offers critical new features including support for high-speed 3G networks, third-party applications, and expanded e-mail. Its call quality is improved and it continues to deliver an excellent music and video experience.
The bad: The iPhone 3G continues to lack some basic features that are available on even the simplest cell phone. Battery life was uneven, and the 3G connection tended to be shaky. Also, the e-mail syncing is not without its faults.
The bottom line: The iPhone 3G delivers on its promises by adding critical features and sharper call quality. The iTunes App Store is pretty amazing, and the 3G support is more than welcome. Critical features still are missing, and the battery depletes quickly under heavy use, but the iPhone 3G is a big improvement over the original model.

so litte functionality for so much money

Pros: slik, good phone
Cons: sucks as a pocket computer, no copy/paste/ no tasks/ no file storage/ bluetooth without blutooth functionality

Summary: I have used ATT Tilt. It had a terrible phone functionality. I loved the rest. It drove me nuts and .. I bought iPhone. It works very well as a phone. I don't have a complaint here but so do other cheaper phones. I was expecting it to be comparable to Tilt in some way but... You cannot do so many things that I got used it is no worth the money. You cannot store files. You cannot copy/paste text! You cannot navigate the cursor in the text. You cannot sync tasks with outlook. You cannot sync notes. You cannot sync over Bluetooth. You cannot move files over bluetooth ... Oh, wait. You cannot do over the cable either! The camera has 1/10 of Tilt's function and quality. It is a useless toy.

Summary: I was really skeptical when the iPhone first came out. I thought I could never give up the tangible QWERTY keyboard on my Treo 680, but I was wrong. I decided to give the iPhone a try after my Treo started randomly crashing, freezing, and restarting everyday...ugh, and I happened to be eligible for an upgrade, yay!
It didn't take me long to get used to the keyboard, especially since it (correctly) guesses what you're trying to say!! I do hope Apple lets the keyboard go horizontal in the next update though so I can comfortably type with both thumbs, right now it's a one-handed job, but I'd like the choice. Also I love how everything is so easy to find and close, but neatly organized. In my Treo, there were always so many steps do take and different places to go to do what I wanted to do.
Also, I'm not really using my mp3 player as much anymore. Even though I got the 8GB, I usually just take my iPhone and my poor little beloved Zune80 sits at home (I use the Zune headphone though, they're the best!). I didn't expect to use the iPod part so much, but it's just so darn convenient! And, let's face it, the touch screen interface is really nice with music!
All in all, I'm never going to another phone again, I'm running this thing into the ground!!! Oh, and I like how Apple is a little selective with their AppStore. I was always having problems with crap software on my Treo, but now I don't have to worry as much (plus it's all in one place!).1 out of 1 users found this user opinion helpful.

We must be alone with our issues or everyone likes the applications so much they are not concern with usability of the phone as a phone. I guess if you listen to music all day you do not need the make a phone call.

Summary: The iPhone 3G is an incredible multimedia device that simply can't be matched. The major problem is the phone is plagued with poor reception (search iPhone 3G reception problems) as reported by Cnet and PC Magazine. At this point no one is sure if the problem is AT&T's spotty 3G coverage or the actual handset. This problem makes using the iPhone as a phone a major issue. I'd avoid buying an iPhone until this problem is resolved!
Updated
I'm a bit disappointed in CNet for not following-up on their initial story of reception problems with the iPhone 3G. Apple's own message boards are filled with thousands of iPhone 3G owners who are experiencing problems with AT&T's 3G network. No one is sure if the problem is with the phone or AT&T's implementation of 3G. At the point it would be unwise to purchase this phone.
Other than the reception problem (which is a big issue), the phone is innovative and revolutionary. My only other complaints would be 1) no cut and paste and 2) the 10mb cap on downloads using 3G. I don't like that you can't download music using the 3G network. Why have highspeed access if you can't fully take advantage of it?1 out of 1 users found this user opinion helpful.

One ...Summary: I was crazy about 1st iPhone. Today when I got 2 new 3G editions I was disappointed.
Now I know what that 50% price tag slash means for real.
One of the phone came defective with damaged sound locking button. Cheap labor, what else to expect..... OS is freezing when switching to contacts. I tested few phones, all of them have the same issue, so I guess, to match the price Apple did some changes to CPU or memory units. Charging stand is optional for extra $29.99 while old iPhone had it included. Even cleaning cloth is made from lower quality materials.
Additionally to product alone, the way Apple was handling the 1st day sale is horrible. In Old Orchard Apple Store people after 7 hours wait, were asked to call AT&T if they want to modify their plans!! Apple genius said that Apple is not a phone company and they can't do it, but in the same time Apple forced iPhone buyers to activate in the store. What a mess. ....but this is not the end of surprises...iPhone 8GB cost $199 but it can go as high as $399 is AT&T will not decide to subsidize the price for you!!!! People will learn that after 7 hours wait in 90 degrees, because Apple store didn't think that it is important as well as information that you CAN'T get iPhone for family member without PHOTO ID. ....On my way to Apple Store I called to ask how many Iphones are left...lady on the other site said IT IS CONFIDENTIAL!!! .....Sorry but I didn't ask for nuclear warheads or CIA files, I just wanted to know if I need to burn more gas and drive to the store to get this phone. Steve Jobs being soooo pro-green should appreciate that instead of making big show and creating all those secrets.
No wonder today Apple lost $4.05 on the market. They released cheaper looking phone with half of the functionality of todays cool phones missing, no Flash player, pseudo-GPS which doesn't work as GPS suppose to.
Instead of Twice the Speed, Half the Price, they should advertise LOWER PRICE - LOWER QUALITY1 out of 1 users found this user opinion helpful.

iPhone rocks, AT&T blows
by nickelstar on July 11, 2008

Summary: AT&T forced me to pay the higher upgrade price for the new iPhone even though I had bought the original iPhone on day 1 last year. Three weeks ago I sold my original iPhone to raise funds for the new iPhone. But before selling, I went into the local AT&T store and they said selling the iPhone would NOT make one ineligible for the lower upgrade price. I even called into AT&T customer service and they also confirmed that I would still be eligible for the $299 upgrade price for the 16gB model. Well, today, I waited in line starting at 5:20 am only to find out the AT&T is going to charge me $499 instead. What happened was the the local salesperson changed my phone plan from an iPhone plan to a regular plan WITHOUT my knowledge or consent. This makes one ineligible for the lowest upgrade price! I find this extremely aggravating and upsetting. There were many, many other customers in line this morning who were experiencing the same issue. AT&T really doesn't seem to know what they doing and are going back on their word. It really makes me question if I want to continue to be a customer!
In addition, several of us have experienced issues with the activation process. We left the store having been told that the iPhone would activate in 5 minutes. It didn't. We have had to call into AT&T support and they are slowly getting the phone activated.
This has been a very frustrating, unhappy purchase experience. Way to go Apple and AT&T.1 out of 1 users found this user opinion helpful.

Summary: Well Apple claims they have lower the price on the iphone 3G and yes they have but with a catch behind it and its to there advantage. sorta sneaky really.. Well on the old iphone you were required to take a on unlimited data plan & 250 text messages for on addition 20USD but now Apple $ AT&T came up with a very sneaky way to lower the price of the phone and make more profit @ the end.. Now the only way you can get the Iphone 3G is by>>>>
A. Must qualify for a service upgrade.(not to bad)
B. Sign up for a new 2 Year contract. (still not bad)
C. Must take a Unlimited data plan; but here the catch instead of 20USD like the old iphone it will cost 30USD now or 45USD for enterprise for server support.
........But wait there more to this catch...
D. Also on top of the 10USD price on the data plan increase you will also loose the 250 Text messages you got with the old 20USD data plan.
E. Any corporate discount you have; you will also loose it. (but the same as the old iphone).
Honestly i truly rather play the full retail plan instead of playing 30USD in addition monthly in the long tern they will get more for the phone, & they claim they lower the price i hate corporates they really will crew you no matter what.. there is truly no discount here just a trick to make you think the phone cost less. but it cost more do the math for 24 months 10x24=240USD + tax...where the discount? apple really wants to get rich fast...Never been a fan of Apple and with this less. be upfront with things and not go around things.1 out of 1 users found this user opinion helpful.
