The good: The Verizon iPhone 4 offers a hot-spot feature not available on AT&T's device. Performance was better in most regards.
The bad: The Verizon iPhone 4 lacks world roaming and the ability to access voice and data simultaneously. The hot-spot feature didn't work with all devices.
The bottom line: The Verizon iPhone 4 has much in common with its AT&T counterpart, but varying features and different performance give it enough room to stand apart. It won't vastly change your iPhone experience, but we welcome the consumer choice that it brings.

First iPhone, Won't Be the Last!
by ervinator65 on February 20, 2011
Pros: Ease of use, full functionality with my iMac. Smooth operation in most cases. The iPhone 4 is my first version of this device, and I have found it to be a good choice. I love the apps, many of which are free. The size and weight of the device, too!
Cons: No indicator light, surprisingly low 5MP camera, battery life for a big app and text user. These are my chief complaints...and not all that damaging for the phone

Summary: I had a Droid X, which is the king of the smartphone world, if you talk to most folks. I liked the DX, but I could not import my contacts from my Mac to that phone, which was not acceptable to me. I did not want to take all of them to Google, so I traded up (in my mind) to the iPhone 4. From that first hour, I had all of my contacts, as well as selected music and photos imported into the unit and I haven't looked back.
I power cycled the phone for the first time in more than a week, whereas the DX needed that at least once a week, or it would begin crashing apps, and such; point to iPhone. I enjoy the smaller size and weight than the DX, because I don't want to feel like i am holding a massive block in my hands, so again, a point to the iPhone.
If you are looking for a highly functional, user friendly, keep you in touch with everyone type of phone, then the iPhone is for you. You will have no problems maintaining productivity while out of the office, because this phone allows you to do almost everything you could do in the office! I'm impressed and hope to find even more to like about it.9 out of 13 users found this user opinion helpful.

Summary: I have been a Verizon wireless customer for years due to the lack of customer service from Att&t, but that is for a different review. As with any phone, the iPhone has its pros and cons. Prior to receiving my iPhone I had an Android phone and I think both OSes are great.
I prefer the IOS over the Android because it is polished and the applications do not become memory hogs. With my Droid, I had to manually perform application/system management to extend battery life. Often, with my Droid, I would find my battery drained in a matter of hours and unusable as it sat on the charger. In my opinion, the battery life helps push the iPhone ahead of the Droid.
The iPhone is not as customizable or as flexible as the Droid. Apple is very conservative with its technology and is never on the bleeding edge. Apple is also very restrictive with third party application support such as Flash. What this means for the consumer is a very stable and polished OS.
Bottom line was I wanted a polished and stable OS that I could use with my current iTunes Media library without the need for third party applications for media management on my phone. I also wanted the phone to be compatible with my e-mail and calendar while providing good call quality. The iPhone delivered on all my requirements.
If you want bleeding edge technology with a highly customizable OS AND don't mind a minor glitch every once in a while, then I would recommend an Android based phone.
As far as 4G is concerned, we are a few years out before it is widely available. The issue with data and voice at the same time doesn't really bother me personally, because I don't multi task on a phone like that. The lack of GSM support is a minor issue, however it is cheaper to use a rental/prepaid phone while out of the country than pay for international roaming.9 out of 13 users found this user opinion helpful.

Tried the Droid 2 and was annoyed. Apple rules.
by ramljm on February 8, 2011
Pros: Tech work of art. Ease of use. Easy setup. Great support from Verizon/Apple. The picture is very clear. Haptic can be turned off. IPOD music download saves big bucks. Easy camera/cam. use. IPAD books upload. Contacts from Verizon were easy to upload.
Cons: Cannot use internet and make a phone call at same time.

Summary: This is an exceptional phone that set the standard for smart phones. Set up is simple and It makes using the internet a breeze. Most all internet sites sites support this excellent phone and extracting useful data and applying it through use of the phone is very easy. This phone is an excellent iPod. The Verizon and Apple support is top notch. Being able to use Wifi from my iPhone 4 was easy to set up and fast over my airport extreme router. fThe only drawback is not being able to use the internet and the phone at the same time. A minor trade off to have access to this fantastic phone on such a reliable network. Would recommend this phone to any current Verizon customer or those looking to switch to a more reliable network.

No LED indicator light?!?!
by lambiel on February 9, 2011
Pros: Crisp and extremely responsive screen. This is most definitely the best touch screen I have ever used. I can see why no physical keyboard is necessary. Sure you can type much faster on a physical keyboard, but it's becoming archaic and obsolete.
Cons: No indicator light! I have never owned a cell phone with no indicator light. My Star Tac 15 years ago had one...15 years ago!

Summary: Not such a smart smartphone. I am convinced that people who call this device "the king of smartphones" have never owned other smartphones. Other than the lack of an essential feature, voice quality is comparable to my Droid minus constantly hanging up on people and dialing random numbers due to the sensor not sensing me on a call. Since I mainly use my phone for business, it was getting a little embarrassing.
After 3 months of using the iPhone4, I can say with certainty that I fully regret using my upgrade for this overrated phone. My biggest issue, except those I have already mention, pertains to the iPhone speaker.
Great for playing games, but I graduated from college years ago.
Great for listening to music, but I need to conserve my battery to avoid having to charge the phone through the day, since I can't carry around an extra battery pack as I did with my Droid.
I have to constantly turn on the phone to see if I have missed any calls, emails, or SMS. No customizable chime to remind me that I have missed these either; and NO, THERE IS NO APP FOR THIS!
So if this feature is as important to you as it is to most smartphone users, I'd hold out for the iphone 5, which is rumored to come with an indicator light -- how innovative.
Updated on Jun 22, 2011
The speaker is so small that if I lightly place my finger over it, the sound becomes extremely low and muffled. So if any little thing in your bag obstructs the tiny little grain of rice sized speaker, you won't hear a thing.
If you've never owned a smartphone or you're just an iFan, the iPhone is a good start. If you're a serious smartphone user, don't fall for all the hype.17 out of 35 users found this user opinion helpful.

MOST RELIABLE SMARTPHONE ON THE MOST RELIABLE NETWORK!!
by Sterling77 on February 25, 2011
Pros: The Screen, the battery life, the sexy and sleek design, the reliability of the OS, the ease of use, the camera, and the sheer volume of applications.
Cons: NO FLASH PLAYER!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! No pure multitasking. Antenna gate is still a minor issue, but even less of an issue on Verizon's beefy network that plows through walls and buildings like they aren't even there. Price of Apps.
Summary: The reliability of the product pure and simple, you ask this phone to do something, and it does it. There is no waiting, almost no app crashing and the OS ...
Summary: The reliability of the product pure and simple, you ask this phone to do something, and it does it. There is no waiting, almost no app crashing and the OS never crashes, at least if you don't jailbreak it. And the battery life is amazing. THIS IS THE MOST RELIABLE SMARTPHONE ON THE MOST RELIABLE NETWORK, that about says it all.

Ok, but not great. Lacks good basic features.
by NJEMT on March 6, 2011
Pros: Great screen, lots of great and free apps. Fast.
Cons: Lacks a lot of basic functions available on other phones for years. No ability to set when you would and would not like to receive emails pushed to the phone, no speed dialing, inability to set separate signatures for different email accounts.

Summary: It's a toy more than a phone. Great screen, great apps, fun to play with. For a really expensive phone that can do amazing things like give turn by turn GPS directions via a free app or be located by the internet anywhere in the world you happen to accidentally leave it, it lacks some really obvious basic features I used to be able to do with a much less expensive and older phone.

Pros: Best camera. most simple and intuitive to use. Does everything you could ever want.
Cons: so far nothing has proven bad
Summary: I have waited for a long time for the iPhone on Verizon. No phone compares to the ease of use and it's superiority.

iphone 4 is so so
by t1Grizzly on February 9, 2011
Pros: call quality is fine and it has a nice music player, camera, fast speeds but only over wifi (see 3G speed con below)
Cons: -biggest con is the very slow 3g speed
-battery has been marginal-doesn't last even 1 day with liimited use
-music player starts randomly
-speakerphone is way 2 soft and speakers are 2 easy to cover with hand
-bluetooth does not autoconnect wellSummary: i have been a long-time VZM customer and waited a long time 4 this phone and very much wanted 2 like it but it is nothing special; also used iphone ...
Summary: i have been a long-time VZM customer and waited a long time 4 this phone and very much wanted 2 like it but it is nothing special; also used iphone 3gs and iphone 4 on AT&T so i can compare them; only had ithe VZW iphone 4 < than 1 wk, and the biggest con is the very slow 3g speed (remember dial-up computer service slow), but its fine over wifi but who has wifi on the road; morever battery life has been marginal-doesn't last even 1 day with liimited use and call time, additionally the music player starts randomly which may explain the poor battery performance and no replaceable battery on nearly every other phone.. additionally, the bluetooth does not autoconnect well with either of my motorola bluetooth headsets (models H17 and H720), but seems to be fine with the bluetooth in my prius; am strongly considering returning this marginal phone 4 the reasons noted.
Unlike Kent German experienced in his CNET review, I think this phone may experience the death grip that also plagued At&T's phone. When holding it in my left hand and running speed test apps (Speedtest and Speed Test) the speeds were significantly slower thant if i barely held the phone or significantly changed my grip to an awkward position. I am unimpressed with this phone and Verizon's 3G network..

Great phone on a great network
by bltzburgh on February 9, 2011
Pros: It's the phone that everyone else tries to compete with. Everything about the phone is quality.
Cons: Haven't found any yet, but I've only had the phone for about 2 days.

Summary: I actually have the 32GB iPhone 4, but it's still the same phone. I've had cellular service for over 20 years now and I know that I hardly ever have the need to talk and surf the net at the same time. Call quality and not having dropped calls ranked as a higher priority to me, so that's why I woudn't go over to AT&T even though I have wanted an iPhone for some time now. You can say the commercials are all hype, but Verizon really does have the best network.
I've played with several of the different Android phones on the market that some of my friend have from Verizon and while they are nice, they just don't seem as refined or slick as the iPhone. It really is a great phone.8 out of 17 users found this user opinion helpful.

Verizon 3G data speeds suck on the iphone.
by UserNeo on March 15, 2011
Pros: Nice refined product with style. No dropped calls, not one.
Cons: To many apple limitations. No 4G speeds. 3G speeds were very slow on verizon (no fault to apple)
Summary: Great product in apples 4th gen iphone. BUT after experiencing slow data speeds around 300kps on verizon's 3G network, I had enough.

Specifications
- Manufacturer: Apple
- Part number: iPhone 4 - 16 GB
- Description: While everyone else was busy trying to keep up with iPhone, Apple were busy creating amazing new features that make iPhone more powerful, easier to use, and more indispensable than ever. The result is iPhone 4. The biggest thing to happen to iPhone since iPhone. All the breakthrough technology in iPhone 4 is situated between two glossy panels of aluminosilicate glass - the same type of glass used in the windshields of helicopters and high-speed trains. Chemically strengthened to be 20 times stiffer and 30 times harder than plastic, the glass is ultradurable and more scratch resistant than ever. It's also recyclable. The 960-by-640 backlit LCD display boasts a pixel density of 326 pixels per inch, making it the highest-resolution phone screen ever. To achieve this, Apple engineers developed pixels so small - a mere 78 micrometers across - that the human eye can't distinguish individual pixels. That makes text remarkably sharp and graphics incredibly vivid. IPS technology also provides excellent color and contrast from almost any viewing angle. Created from Apple's own alloy, then forged to be five times stronger than standard steel, the CNC-machined band is the mounting point for all the components of iPhone 4. The band provides impressive structural rigidity and allows for its incredibly thin, refined design. It also functions as both iPhone 4 antennas. Apple engineers designed the A4 chip to be a remarkably powerful yet remarkably power-efficient mobile processor. With it, iPhone 4 can easily perform complex jobs such as multitasking, editing video, and placing FaceTime calls. All while maximizing battery life. iPhone 4 includes a built-in three-axis gyroscope. When paired with the accelerometer, it makes iPhone 4 capable of advanced motion sensing such as user acceleration, full 3D attitude, and rotation rate. Translation: More motion gestures and greater precision for an even better gaming experience. The iPhone 4 camera shoots gorgeous 5-megapixel photos and stunning HD video. And with its advanced backside illumination sensor, it captures beautiful images even in low-light settings. The built-in LED flash does double duty. When you're taking pictures, it works as a flash. When you're shooting video it can stay on to light up the scene. And on the front of iPhone 4, the built-in camera is perfect for making FaceTime calls and shooting self-portraits. While most phones have only one microphone, iPhone 4 has two. The main mic, located on the bottom next to the dock connector, is for phone calls, voice commands, and memos. The second mic, built into the top near the headphone jack, is for FaceTime calls and for making your phone calls better. It works with the main mic to suppress unwanted and distracting background sounds, such as music and loud conversations. This dual-mic noise suppression helps make every conversation a quiet one. With its large Multi-Touch display and innovative software, iPhone lets you control everything using just your fingers. How does it work? A panel laminated on the glass senses your touch using electrical fields. It can register multiple touches at once to support advanced gestures such as pinch to zoom, two-finger tap, and more. The panel then transmits the information to the Retina display below it.
