The good: Apple's iPhone 4S has a faster processor and an upgraded camera, all the benefits of iOS 5, and a useful and immensely fun voice assistant. Call quality on the Sprint model is admirable, and the data speeds, while certainly not 4G, get the job done.
The bad: It's about time we get a larger screen.
The bottom line: The iPhone 4S isn't the king of cell phones, but it's part of the royal family nonetheless. Even without 4G and a giant screen, this phone's smart(ass) voice assistant, Siri, the benefits of iOS 5, and its spectacular camera make it a top choice for anyone ready to upgrade.

Pros: I've compared the camera shots from the 4s, and the N8, (the only other phone that is even close to the quality) (the N9 is actually a step down from the N8, so i'll use the N8)
while the N8 engineer claims they have a larger shutter opening, this iCons: i too would prefer an edge to edge 4" screen.
4G is something you DO NOT want, you have to stand on your head in the center of some city to get it, and when you do it is spotty... and for the trouble you get a battery that lasts half as long...

as you've found, Samsung and Motorola always lie about their battery results, where Apple always UNDERESTIMATES it's battery results... see all of their reviews from past battery tests.
now lets face up to what is important...
why do people buy a smartphone? as opposed to a "regular" phone?
first off the calls are exactly the same quality or better with the iPhone. so the "regular" phone needs are taken care of...
why do people buy a smartphone:
1. apps, apps, apps... iPhone4s is best among all phones here.
2. battery life, battery life, battery life... iPhone4s is the best among all phones here.
3. cost... well you can find 300 Android phones in bargain bins for free or about the same as free, because of retailer after retailer trying to get rid of them.... replaced by 30 more Android phones a month... so Android has iPhone there, unless you care about the best phone (on each given platform) at any given time, then the costs are about the same.
4. camera phone, iPHone4s has the best camera among all phones, and some point and shoots.
5. easy of syncing and buying info/apps, music. data. Iphone4s has seamless syncing of all your devices INSTANTLY, and the buying experience is second to none.

Nothing has visibly changed from the year old iphone 4.
She's stuck working with the bloated, invasive, crapware that is itunes. That's a huge pain when you're used to drag & drop.

Pros: iPhone's are GREAT!
Cons: - Verizon Wireless Network is not designed for the iPhone!
- Conference Calling sucks, you must hang up on everyone, you can't just hang-up on 1 party and continue your conversation with the other.

Summary: Verizon was not ready to take orders and get phones ported over from ATT. Apple screwed up a launch with slow downloads and poorly preparing vendors. I preordered the phone little after midnight the first day eligible. After being very pysched to get the phone, learned the downloads were slow then Verizon ( after 40 misn with 2 reps on phone ) could not phone switched over properly. They also could not assure me that I will be able to receive calls in the the next 72 hours. I am traveling today so had to pick up a prepaid phone for the weekend. Old ATT I3 dead, new iphone can make calls not receive calls goes right to voicemail which I can not retrieve. Hey did apple test the process out with normal people???

Summary: I like an idiot, bought into all the hype before and after this thing was released. I finally broke down and pre ordered one and upon receiving my phone today, I was just so disappointed. I had my original iphone 4 sitting right next to me so I could swap out the sim to my new one and after I opened the box I felt like I had re-purchased my old phone. I had issues getting it set up at first and had to wait several hours to get my activation issues resolved. But, the real let down was when I finally used the phone. It felt exactly the same as my old iphone 4. I'm an idiot for wasting my money on the same phone, I should have just upgraded my old iphone 4 to iOS 5 instead of getting the 4s. Now I just have an iBrick that I'm looking to sell. So, unless I see some REAL upgrades in the next iphone, I doubt I'll ever be duped into buying a new ihpone when it's so similar to the previous one that it's a waste of time. Also, this thing isn't future proof at all, it offers practically no new technology to compete with future handsets. If I'm still using this thing 5 years from now, I will be so far behind the curb everyone will be calling me grandpa.
