The good: The iPhone 5 adds everything we wanted in the iPhone 4S: 4G LTE, a longer, larger screen, free turn-by-turn navigation, and a faster A6 processor. Plus, its top-to-bottom redesign is sharp, slim, and feather-light.
The bad: Apple Maps feels unfinished and buggy; Sprint and Verizon models can't use voice and data simultaneously. The smaller connector renders current accessories unusable without an adapter. There's no NFC, and the screen size pales in comparison to jumbo Android models.
The bottom line: The iPhone 5 completely rebuilds the iPhone on a framework of new features and design, addressing its major previous shortcomings. It's absolutely the best iPhone to date, and it easily secures its place in the top tier of the smartphone universe.

Summary: The i5 has become the first thing I reach for due to its ease of use and incredible responsiveness; a go anywhere device that does everything and everything it does it does incredibly well.
The weight of the device is simply amazing; you know it's there, but you fear that you might forget; like a perfect child that always does what they are told, never complains, and is always at your beck and call.
Frequent trips to Disneyland had me craving a photo app that took amazing panorama's that could filter uncooperative park-goers who simply refused to stand still; an impossible dream finally realized.2 out of 3 users found this user opinion helpful.

Best smartphone on the market
by geoffreyspencer on October 3, 2012
Pros: Thinness, weight, speed, anti-glare, LTE
Cons: NCF but if banks are not playing ball, Apple Maps is buggy but will get better; people forget how bad Google Maps was at the beginning.
Summary: Simply the best smartphone on the market with the best OS for a mobile device.

huge improvement from 4 but....

Summary: I'll probably sound like many other reviews. Coming from iPhone 4 on VZW so the speed factor is HUGE. Speeds are amazing and the phone itself is so much quicker and more fluid in operation. As an upgrade it's a no brainer in that regard. I will take the apple/Mac integration in this case over the extra features you give up from Android. With iOS, you know apps will work, iCloud will transfer contacts/calendar/etc. to the rest of your iOS/Mac environment and that's huge for me since I work on a Mac and also still have an original gen iPad. But this is not the next Jesus phone by a long shot and certainly has its faults. Really comes down to Android versus iOS and your valuation of features. If the big screen and/or Android world is your thing this that's your choice - GS3 in a heartbeat and I'd be happpy. If you're in the Apple ecosystem as I am, then I love my new phone.

Blown me away in 3 days
by LewisKuzam on September 24, 2012
Pros: I've only had this for 3 days and its amazing me already, mainly because of the speed of it - the new processor really is an upgrade
Cons: Siri isn't as good as they made out, however compared to any other voice recognition phones it is a cut above the rest.
Summary: Simply the best phone on the market right now, ignore the Samsung and HTC preachers

Notice the one star reviews are coming from non-owners.
by Treeeski on September 23, 2012
Pros: Fast, smooth, responsive, reliable and stable, beautiful picture and high resolution, great camera, very long battery life so far under moderately heavy use, intuitive and easy to use, well supported by developers and accessory manufactures.
Cons: None that I've come across, although it's only been a few days

Summary: A quick word before I get to the actual review... Notice how all of the negative reviews are coming from people who don't actually own the iPhone 5. Not one of them have mentioned a specific issue that a real owner would come across during use - they are all listing the online blog pre-release complaints. I have something for you to think about: If Apple is strictly based on hype and they "brainwash" people into buying their products through great marketing, then why do they have one of the most loyal fanbases in the world? If these products are as bad as you say, then why would people come back for more? Not only that, buy why would many users convert their entire household to Apple products if they were unhappy with their first one? Furthermore, how many real iPhone users have you heard from that actually dislike their phone? A few, I'm sure, but the vast majority not only like but absolutely love their iPhone. Some even love them enough to wait outside in the rain for days on end just to get the next one. Call it crazy if you'd like, but it speaks volumes about the products themselves.
Now onto the actual review... I preordered the iPhone 5 from Verizon, and upgraded from a Thunderbolt (not the greatest Android phone, I know). I own an iPad 2 and enjoy the simplicity that it offers, which is why I decided to make the switch to an iPhone. As cliche as it sounds, when I first turned it on and began setting it up I was blown away - the gorgeous display, the smooth transitions and fact that absolutely nothing is choppy or comes to a sudden stop, were all stark contrasts to what I had been used to. It even felt buttery smooth compared to the iPad. I was especially awed by the smooth scrolling within applications and websites. I am used to scrolling down my Facebook feed and seeing a slight stutter effect since there are so many links and photos, but on the iPhone it is as smooth as scrolling down a page of simple text. Switching between apps is fast, it launches apps very quickly, and web-browsing (whether this was just in my head or not) seemed much faster via WiFi than any other device in my house. It seems to turn on in about 30 seconds, which is such a relief from the four minutes that my Thunderbolt took.
I was a little concerned about dropping down in screen size from my 4.3" display to a 4" display, since I 6'5" and do not have any problem holding a larger phone. However, one thing I had overlooked is the resolution that each phone offers. The Thunderbolt actually has a pretty good looking screen, but the iPhone has such a high resolution that I found I was able to view a lot more on each screen, even with the smaller size. When I pulled up the same Facebook page on each device and laid them side by side, I could actually see about 40% more on the iPhone. Even though the iPhone has a smaller screen than most Android devices, users should to keep in mind that these other phones have larger status bars and virtual buttons that take up screen space.
Finally, I appreciate the ease of use and stability that seems to come with Apple products. I need my phone to make calls and text, browse the web and social network, take photos, and run a few apps. The iPhone 5 does this simply and beautifully. I work at a Best Buy (I know, I'm not their biggest fan either), and I see numbers of people who bring their Android phones and Windows PCs in for service because of random buggy issues. As a Windows and former Android user, I have experienced many of these first hand. Every customer, friend, and family member I have talked to who own Apple products say nothing but the best about them, and it's contagious. Their products work well, are simple to use, and come without the hassle that people are used to and have put up with for years. That is the magic of Apple, not the marketing hype.8 out of 18 users found this user opinion helpful.

Summary: Last year I had a PC, iPad and an Android phone. I must say the iPad had me look at the iPhone and I'm glad a switched (also got a MacBook Pro and Air [for the wife]). The Android had a larger screen, but I really didn't use/need it. On the rare occasion I watch movies, I use my iPad, not my phone (I tend to "save" my phone battery life), and while I may play a game or two on my phone, it isn't a primary for my games so again, a larger screen on my phone didn't fit my needs. I was never impressed with the ability to tweak my Android screen, so that wasn't a good selling point for me. This phone is FAR quicker than my Android and the size is perfect for my needs. I love having my contacts, and appointments synced with my laptop and iPad. Overall, (and this is just my preference), I simply love the Apple operating system. Ditching my Android, and PC was a great move.

Summary: The pros are pretty self explanatory, though i was pleasantly surprised by how easily the iCloud program for Windows works with Outlook to sync my contacts/calendar/tasks from my laptop to phone.
The cons explained - Yep, i think iOS is getting rather boring. Android has the widgets, windows phone has the live tiles - let's get something like that onto iOS.
The phone's aluminum back scratches fairly easily, and the phone itself is quite slippery. A case will fix the problem, but why buy a fancy, thin aluminum phone if you're just going to have to make it into a brick a la Otterbox?
The maps issue has been way overblown, there are plenty of other good mapping apps that you can use(I highly recommend Waze), but there's no denying that Apple seriously messed up on its own Maps app.
The lightning cable is the biggest problem I have with the phone. It's hardly an improvement! All it has going for it is that its super small and "reversible". Who cares if its reversible! It's not even faster - just the same USB 2.0. There's only one reason why Apple didn't use microUSB, and that's money. Just look at the prices for its adapters. At the very least, Apple could have included a free adapter in all of its new iPhones/iPods/iPads.1 out of 1 users found this user opinion helpful.

Couldn't be happier!
by Davefromthe925 on September 24, 2012
Pros: Superb build quality. Camera is outstanding! It fits perfectly in your hand, I wouldn't want it any bigger. Not only is battery life outstanding (Took me 1 day 21 hours w/9 hours of use to drain the battery) but it charges VERY fast.
Cons: Have not really found any yet. It's almost too small and light, makes it easy to drop. I do miss the freedom of the android os...the widgets, the apps.

Summary: I owned two android phones before this. My last one, a Droid x, I had to root and rom just to keep it running. Within a few months of owning the X the thing almost wouldn't even run it was so slow. Its great to have a phone that I can bust of the camera and take a quick picture and not get a memory error, or have the phone crash altogether. Most of all im confident that I can use this phone for the next couple of years while apple developes its next smart phone, and get a new contract with verizons super fast lte.
