Challenger To Treo 650
Pros: Not as much limitation on data as you have with 650 memory, the speakerphone is crisp, nice color screen. Bluetooth syncs well with headset, and browser/web access is quick and frankly, I was surprised as the speed. Of course, with Nextel, you get direct c
Cons: You have to get used to the Nextel antenna sticking out, the screen lights well (as do the buttons), but does not stay on more than 2 minutes. You need to use a headset if you make a lot of calls, this phone is larger than the Treo and other phones.Batter

Avoid Nextel at all cost
by Cirrus flyer on April 11, 2005
Pros: BlackBerry for emails

Summary: I trialed two 7520 units for my business. I returned them to the Nextel owned store within the 15 day trial period because of marginal reception in my building. The store personel were professional and credited my Visa for the price of the phone. Two weeks latter I got a bill from Nextel for > $700 for the price of the phone. After endless phone trees and holding I was told that the phones can only be used for 30 min. within the trial period. This was not represented in the written contract and was specifically contradicted verbally. BTW, how can one evaluate a phone in 30 min.!!! After five hours of my time, this issue is still not resolved eventhough the Nextel store manager agrees with my claim completely and has told the home office as much. This may end up in the Attorney General's office.
Also the Bluetooth worked poorly with my car sync. and two headsets.7 out of 9 users found this user opinion helpful.

BlackBerry sucks!

Summary: Don't buy this phone! Unless you want to shell out big bucks every month. Most Nextel phones allow you to add a data service plan for as little as 9.99 a month to access IM, Text Messaging, Address Book, Web Service, and Multimedia Messaging. The BlackBerry, however, REQUIRES that you purchase a "BlackBerry Email and Web Plan" for at least 39.99. This gives you 3MB of e-mail service, web access, and 200 inbound text messages. That's it! If you want to send SMS or IM you have to pay the 9.99 on top of that. All this in addition to your voice rate plan! Of course they don't tell you all this. In fact, you can purchase a BlackBerry with a service plan that does not include the BlackBerry package online or through any of the 15 Nextel Representatives I talked to who simply didn't know this or flat out discounted it. Then, when corporate sees a BlackBerry without this service, they "correct the error" and add the package for a nice little surprise on your next bill. Plus the Bluetooth doesn't support data, only headsets. And, who makes a phone with bluetooth headset capability without Voice Activated Dialing. I mean, if my phone is in another room, I want to be able to make a call as well as receive it. You won't even know who's calling either, because you can't download ringtones into the techno mess! More errors than any marketed product should be allowed to have by law!

Excellent PIM & Phone, but battery could be better
by mikecallery on July 25, 2005
Pros: Great Organizational Tool, Strong Integration

Summary: Having owned multiple Palm OS devices and Pocket PC devices, this was a change and was bought because it's the only SmartPhone that Nextel offers. Getting used to it from a Pocket PC was tough, but now that I've grown used to it, I'm very pleased with it. Much better connectivity to Nextel than my i730. Great speakerphone.
The integration to Outlook on my corporate PC is pretty good through Intellisync. I wish it would sync more like Active Sync instead of having to bring up the software each time, but there are pros and cons to everything you purchased.
I have ordered the high-cap battery. As good as it is, if you browse the net, do a few emails, this device will eat up the battery and just make a day on the normal battery. This is one area that needs major improvement and I hope the high-cap battery helps.
Other than that, I'm quite pleased. If you are a power user looking for downloadable software and ringtones, go get a Pocket PC. If you want a good phone and fantastic email integration, this would be the way to go.
I also wish that the webclient would get a major overhaul. Why you have to have one reply to address for multiple accounts is beyond me. They need to set it up where each account can have it's own reply to address. That to me is the weakest point to the push integration and possibly with time, that will improve to.
Overall, this is a good phone with great email and web integration.2 out of 2 users found this user opinion helpful.

This is the best one out there by far
by NextelFan on April 29, 2005
Pros: Speaker phone, two level brightness, bluetooth

Summary: The speakerphone is better than any other phone on the market, including Motorola's phones for Nextel. The bluetooth capability is fantastic, and having the walkie talkie feature is absolutely awesome... Much better than what Verizon and Sprint can come up with. This is unmatched. Just ask RIM... between the 7510 and the 7520, they are the hottest selling BlackBerry units they have ever had.

Blackberry OK! Nextel Unhelpful!
by PinkCaddy on April 14, 2005
Pros: Great for Busy on the GO people!
Cons: In 3 months, I have had to replace 2 times and Nextel was very hard to deal with!

But I have had to replace my unit 2 times in the 3 months I have owned it do to system issues and unit issues. Each time, I have been charged $35.00. Plus the hassle of not having a phone and waiting up to a week for a new one. THIS IS WHEN I GET FRUSTRATED! Nextel who is my service provider, has never been any help at all and has messed my monthly bill up every single month by overcharging me and double billing me.
Plus when you call them. They shuffle you from sevice rep to service rep and it is impossible to get anything taken care of.2 out of 3 users found this user opinion helpful.

One device for everything - great deal!

Summary: I was balancing a cell phone, PDA and notebook for connectivity. Now I just use my BB and have all my contact info, my calendar, and email (work & personal) readily available - always in touch and current with wireless sync & push! Bonus web browsing for those times when you need to check something quickly & are not near your computer. The speaker phone on this unit is fantastic - previously was my #1 requirement for a cell phone. I don't care about the ringtones, but I do wish the ring volume could be adjusted higher - the only reason I couldn't give the 7520 a 10! And, Nextel BB customer service is exceptional - they've always been right on the money ... very friendly & helpful.

Professional - Real Smart
by chinesecatt on April 22, 2005
Pros: Love the keyboard, GREAT signal, great look, just smooth
Cons: Ringer isn't loud enough for me. If you leave your RIM in the other room, chances are you will get missed calls.

Summary: I love this gadget... that I sleep with it! And NEXTEL are great with customer service... you just have to know that RIMs / Blackberry are dealt with Blackerry Rep or technician. Not ordinary customer care people. THAT you have to take note!
Just wished that it offers more accessories. Application wise, you can get real-time web browsing with 3rd party application. They are GREAT and performs good... not that it can compare surfing through your computer. So expect to have laggings and try not to press the ESC button all the time or especially when it is trying to access the network.. otherwise you will need to do a hard reset.
Wished it came with more ring tone options. Though I definitely like the ordinary ones since this is a Blackberry and it is basically marketed for Execs.. not student who sometimes have ghetto ring tones. I don't think I would like my Blackberry to ring something like "Pick Up Your Phone" or sounding like "I like big butts... " or so on. Ring tones of Blackberry just have that CLASS!!! So if you are into loud ringers.. I don't think this device is for you.
Check for applications that is right for you and do trials first before buying them. It is kindda cumbersome apploading them to this device. So just be patient.
Bottom line: Awesome and great! Bluetooth for your wireless headset are great! Just expect people to look at you in a weird way when you are talking through your RIM.. but this device has great reception.. always have full signal. Can't wait when NEXTEL and SPRINT would explore new boudaries with their network.
Great Walkie-Talkie and easy to use. Just getting use to it since the button is on the top (near antennae), instead of on the side.
Room for improvement? Looking forward to it. Just not that soon, I would hate to upgrade my phone again after just 5 months of being with Motorola i860!!!1 out of 1 users found this user opinion helpful.

I Love this BlackBerry!
by shawn80 on April 8, 2005
Pros: Wheel control has to be one of its best features, besides having Nationwide Direct Connect , and viewing word documents and attachments, I mean the list goes on and on!
Cons: It only accepts .midi files as the ringtones, and you cannot assign ringtones to different contacts like the nextel phones.
Summary: After all the smoke and mirrors, this is still a great product to purchase.

rock solid performance
by kgolovko on April 6, 2005
Pros: bluetooth, outlook synchronizing, easy e-mail, has lasted through MANY drops onto hard surfaces

Summary: I have used three different "smart" phones as deployed by the firm I work with, and to date this has been the most reliable. It is easy to use, so even our technophobes are up an running quickly. Screen is clear, color is nice. The bluetooth capability (I use a Jabra headset) is great. If you're used to grafitti, then the thumb typing will be difficult at first, but worth the effort to work through. All in all, a very good device, especially for organizations... oh yeah, and the bluetooth headset works with the Nextel 2-way direct connect feature.
