The good: Boasting a sleek and sexy design, the RIM BlackBerry 8800 offers integrated GPS, push-to-talk capabilities, and multimedia features. The quadband smart phone also has Bluetooth, push e-mail, a full QWERTY keyboard, and long talk-time battery life.
The bad: Unfortunately, the BlackBerry 8800 doesn't work on Cingular's 3G network nor does it have integrated Wi-Fi. Call quality was a little muffled, and the phone is quite wide and awkward to hold. The media player could also use some refinements, and instant messaging is limited to the BlackBerry Messenger client.
The bottom line: Despite some minor issues, the RIM BlackBerry 8800 offers mobile professionals a well-rounded smart phone with added multimedia functions, GPS, and push-to-talk capabilities. That said, messaging remains its forte.

The best of the best

Summary: I have owned more cell phones than anyone I know! I keep changing my phones since I have yet to find one that satisfy my needs. This could be the one. Unlike windows based phones, the software is intuitive. I also like the thumb wheel design as it allows you to maneuver through the menu with great efficiency. It is early in the game for this phone, however, a full day of use goes by and my battery strength is still available with plenty of reserves. All in all, you won't go wrong with this excellent device

Best BB yet.

Summary: Better than an 8700 in every respect except the keyboard is more cramped. I thought losing the classic BB thumbwheel would a problem for me, but I really like the little joystick now after hating it at first. I guess there is a little "get used" curve with anything. Really easy switchover from the 8700 to the 8800 using the BB desktop software. Add 3G to this and UTMS2100 band coverage and it would be the perfect phone.

Summary: Research in Motion's BlackBerry 8800 is as stylish as it is powerful, the BlackBerry 8800 smartphone is designed to let you do your very best work from wherever location you want. It gives you a phone, email, organizer, web browser, messaging and also includes a music and video player. And if that wasn't enough, providing GPS for enhanced access to location based applications and services, including the handy tool - BlackBerry Maps which comes pre-loaded.
A dream of a phone, stylishly designed - and a 2007 G3 Creative Glasgow MUST HAVE.

Have discovered multiple problems over 2 years of use
by TCraigBrown on December 5, 2009
Pros: I like a lot of the features, but can find them on most phones today.
Cons: 1) The trac ball, 2) applications, like the camera, will stop working, 3) The key pad isn't durable, 4) the ear jack goes bad quickly 5) The internet service is extremely slow.
Summary: 1) The trac ball, even though a neat idea, is a horrible feature. Just like the old computer mouse with the ball on the bottom; the trac ball is constantly ...
Summary: 1) The trac ball, even though a neat idea, is a horrible feature. Just like the old computer mouse with the ball on the bottom; the trac ball is constantly getting clogged up and stops working. It's nothing more than a magnet for lint and debris.
2) Out of nowhere the camera just stopped working. Every time I try to use the camera a message comes up saying that I need to close other applications for it to load. Well now... there's the problem. There isn't any other applications running.
3) If you like to text stay away from this phone. The key pad doesn't take long to go bad and will frustrate you to no end.
4) The phone comes with a set of ear buds which has a microphone. I liked the sound quality, but after about 8 months the phone jack went bad and I was forced to go to a bluetooth headset. Even though I like the wireless headset for talking on the phone I miss being able to plug the ear buds into the phone to listen to music.
5) The internet service on this phone makes dial-up seem fast. Just to read emails took me forever, and forget trying to surf the web. Web pages don't load right and it becomes nothing more than a frustrating experience. From talking with others who have the phone it seems to be a combination of my carrier (T-Mobile) and the phone not having enough memory, or being under powered. Whatever the case may be I dropped the internet service after a couple days realizing it was a waste of money.
All-in-all I like the ideas Blackberry integrated into this phone with its features, but I wouldn't recommend this phone to anyone. There's too many phones in the same price range which will out perform this Blackberry. -

Awful interface, keyboard, navigation, display. YUK
by Kingronster on November 10, 2008
Pros: There is little to like. It is ok at getting emails but you wont want to read them as the track ball is horrible to use to scroll down. Quiet possible the worst phone I have had in my life.
Cons: No Camera. Bad Track Ball. Dated Styling. Poor functions and features. Difficult to navigate around. Terrible menu system. I will never buy a Blackberry device - this one was given to me by my company. ITS HORRIBLE.
Summary: Get an iPhone. Its better in every way shape and form. And now the Iphone supports Push Email there is no reason on earth to put up with the rubbish. ...

Summary: I have had this phone for about a year. The only concern I have that it doesn’t feel as sturdy as past BB phones. BUT I have dropped it numerous times and it’s still working. The $10 a month for unlimited TeleNav is WAY worth it! Overall I am very pleased with this phone and would purchase it again.

8800 Blackberry is the worst phone
by justajn1 on November 25, 2007

Summary: I have had two blackberry 8800 and both have been horrible. The phone freezes up and you have to take out the battery to reset and it takes over 3 minutes each tgime - pllus you have limited functinoality after this occurs. I was told to turn my phone off each day completely and it would eleviate the problem - it does not - I would probably get another phone - yes the messages are great when the phone does not freeze up and you are not waiting for the phone to reset itself each and everytime - but the functionality is really bad - save yourself time and trouble -
