The good: The RIM BlackBerry 8820 is the first BlackBerry to offer integrated Wi-Fi. The smart phone continues to offer Bluetooth, GPS, and push e-mail capabilities as well as push-to-talk and multimedia functions. We were also impressed by the long talk-time battery life.
The bad: There's no 3G support and no option for a camera version. The QWERTY keyboard can be slippery, and the device uses a proprietary instant messaging client.
The bottom line: The addition of Wi-Fi makes the RIM BlackBerry 8820 an even more powerful communication device for business users, taking it beyond just e-mail and phone calls.

The 8700g was better
by FunNcars on September 18, 2008
Pros: thinner, lighter, bright clear display, wi-fi ...it really has allthe bells and whistles. It does everything ...in fact more than I've figured out how to do.
Cons: Speakerphone not as loud or clear as 8700g.
I HATE the keyboard! While the keys are the same physical size as the 8700g, but they are now curved with smaller print, making them hard to use and much harder to see especially in dim light.Summary: Very nice phone overall. Most of the extra bells and whistles I don't use, but the smaller keys and downgraded speakerphone are two major downgrades in my opinion. Maybe ...
Summary: Very nice phone overall. Most of the extra bells and whistles I don't use, but the smaller keys and downgraded speakerphone are two major downgrades in my opinion. Maybe it is just because the change in type size was just enough that I MUST use my glasses to see the keypad letters now, whereas before I didn't need my glasses.
PS: as a business phone I can't go into many customer facilities with camera, including a cell phone camera - so I am glad this is available without the cam.
If they develop a replacement keypad with larger letters, I would be the first in line to buy it.

Would like more control and choices over ring volume and vibrate ...maybe I just haven't figured that part out yet. -
OK JUST OK
by gloriaandy on August 26, 2008
Pros: Full qwerty keyboard, MSN messenger
Cons: Poor visual screen quality, same boring blackberry setup, OWA e-mail setup is a pain in the @$$, Unable to view personal e-mails as you would via your pc's web browser. No 3G, this phone screams I'm Bland.
Summary: Blackberry 8820 is a solid Bland boring phone that serves it's purpose, but is in bad need of an update. I also have a IPHONE 3G and let me ...
Summary: Blackberry 8820 is a solid Bland boring phone that serves it's purpose, but is in bad need of an update. I also have a IPHONE 3G and let me tell you the difference is night and day. I was skeptical about all the IPHONE 3G hoopla, but Apple currentyl has the best mobile phone around. If you got the cash check out HTC Diamond, you can purchase unlocked online another solid phone which I use in Taiwan comparable if not better than IPHONE and that is saying a lot.

No 3G? What is this a Blackberry Iphone???

Summary: Sometimes I really think that CNET is a bunch of Iphone/BB fanboys...All I have to say is why would you spend that much money and lock yourself into a 2 year contract for a phone that doesn't have 3G or a camera? Granted, I know it's a Blackberry and it's so cool but I'm telling you, if you use Edge in a non-WiFi area you're gonna be hating this phone. ATT is doing the same thing to this phone that they did to the Iphone.. they're depending on suckers to buy the first iteration and later on they'll release the phone with 3G and a cam. It's not THAT great, there are better options out there.

I cannot do anything with it... it is only but only useful to see email on phone. if someone is buying a phone worth $500 obviously he will have gps too...
worst part... i cannot see any streaming videos like on youtube or any live videos.. which come by default in WINDOWS MOBILE 6.1
I cannot see documents or PDF or PPT's... which are again by default in windows mobile 6.1. IF you wanna see them in blackberry you need to buy some crappy software for $99.
off course there is no camera to this phone.
I just see this phone as an expensive device to see email and lastly .. the wifi doesnot work good all the time... blackberry itself officially agreed to that problem. it some times doesnot connect to the cisco.
I really suggest anybody not to go for any blackberry device. instead go for windows mobile devices or apple ... black berry fails.0 out of 1 users found this user opinion helpful.

Summary: I had a Treo 700w for 2+ years - corporate required a Blackberry which I've had 1 week. The keyboard is very difficult for me - particularly compared to Treo. I assumed it had a camera ... my error. It'll work well ... if I can get past the key board. I'm 6'4" - large hands.

OK but not the ideal smartphone.
by reynoldsbill on September 27, 2007
Pros: Robust construction. Great sound level. Good software package.
Cons: Terrible key pad. Unfortunate that they came out with the curve a month later and kind of cheesey that AT&T didn't mention they would be coming out with the curve. Wished it had a camera.
Summary: For a $300 phone extremely poor keyboard execution. Will look for another phone when contract time is up. Would like to compare the Curve and the iPhone head to head.
