The good: The RIM BlackBerry 8830 offers dual-mode functionality so you can use the phone globally. It's EV-DO capable; has a built-in GPS radio; an integrated music and video player; and offers solid performance. The Sprint version also features unlocked SIM capabilities and an AIM client.
The bad: The BlackBerry 8830 is on the larger side. There is no camera option, and the phone doesn't support stereo Bluetooth headsets. Callers reported distorted speakerphone quality.
The bottom line: For the globe-trotting executive, the RIM BlackBerry 8830 is a powerful voice and messaging tool that offers world roaming and solid performance.

Summary: After being loyal to Verizon for fifteen years, I am tired of the over charging, ridiculous pricing, and now $1.95 per line - per month for detailed billing. **** up a rope Verizon! I have determined that Sprint's coverage is just as good, pricing is a million times better, and as for all you complaining about tech support and customer service......it is the same everywhere. Terrible service and support is the industry standard with just about every type of product now.
I was really torn between the Treo 755P and the new Blackberry 8830. My sales associate at the Sprint store highly recommended the Blackberry. Note; he has never used a Palm and I have never owned a Blackberry. I truly think it is narrowed down to what you are used to. I can only imagine if I was a long time Blackberry user, I would rate this phone a 10+++. The graphics are awesome and I can customize my contact synchronization with Outlook (filter only to synch business and leave the personal contacts on my device). I was unable to do this with the Treo 650, and I did utilize both Verizon’s and Palm's tech support. I believe I can do this now with the Palm with, of course, a purchase of software. I love the fact that I can dial through my Bluetooth headset without ever pulling the phone out of the pouch on the Blackberry. One touch of the headset, and I hear, "say a command" through the headset. Did I mention I love this feature?
The graphics rock on this device. I feel like I am at home watching my plasma when I look at this screen. I also enjoy the option of full MP3 for a ringer.
As a prior Palm user, I will say the Palm software is FAR superior to the Blackberry. I can complete twice as many tasks in half the time with the Palm. Whether I am purging a call log, editing a contact, setting an appointment, or customizing the phone, the Blackberry takes triple the amount of steps necessary to complete the task.
I also do not like the fact that I have to remove the battery cover to access the MiniSD card, and the battery life is terrible, even though I was promised it is strong.
I am likely to return the Blackberry and exchange for the Treo 755P. I think the setup is a bit more challenging on the Treo (in all fairness I dig deep and utilize every possible function), however; once setup is complete the phone is very versatile and user friendly. My time is valuable and even considering that I would acclimate to the Blackberry OS, I can accomplish twice as much in half the time with the Treo. Too bad, I really like the look and feel of the Blackberry much better.13 out of 14 users found this user opinion helpful.

Summary: Until I purchased the Blackberry 8830 I used the Samsung A900. Wow! What an improvement in productivity and email functionality! The push-email is feature is truly impressive. I don't mind the absence of a camera since I don't use my phone for serious photo taking anyway. The only real gripe I have about the phone is the Blackberry Desktop Manager software. I spent 2 1/2 hours with a Sprint representative installing and uninstalling various versions of the software to no avail. On the last attempt (which I did by myself) I chose the "ignore" option on the error message I received and the application finished loading. Surprisingly, the software then worked fine with Windows Vista Business. My 8830 now synchronizes perfectly with my MS Outlook 2007. Once I breeched this obstacle my experience has been wonderful with this device. I recommend the Blackberry 8830 just be sure to use the Blackberry Desktop Manager SP1 as this is the version compatible with Vista

Summary: The keyboard is actually easy to use. It is easy to navigate through to applications. Set up was easy and I like that it is a bit bigger because I have not dropped it once like I usually do my smaller phones. It is easy to drag and drop music and I love the instant messenger and although it doesnt have a camera you can still receive emails with picture attatchments. I dont think there is a such thing as a perfect phone, but this is close. Another great thing is that if you have problems you dont have to call Sprint you can just call Blackberry. They have knowledgeable and friendly reps who can handle everything for you except the billing aspect.

Sprint Service is AWFUL!

Pros: The phone itself is a great device, very easy to use and very easy to set up.
Cons: You are unable to do text messaging outside of the US with Sprint. In some countries where Sprints site says they have voice service they really don't, and there customer service is awful.

Then this week I was in Mexico City the voice and data both work fine however I am unable to do text messages. I called Sprint and they said text doesnt work internationally. However I have a Chat message that I saved from a conversation that I had with a Support person from Sprint and he told me that Text would work internationally. IT DOES NOT! A co-worker shows up in Mexico with the SAME (different color of course) device but his service is with Verizon and he was able to do text messaging from his phone in Mexico but I cannot with Sprint. I am within my 30 days, I called to cancel my account with Sprint and it took 4 hours to do. When I get home I am going straight to the Verizon store.4 out of 5 users found this user opinion helpful.

Summary: I used the ppc6700 for over a year and hated every minute of it. Windows mobile is just not there yet. The 8830 has been great. It's responsive, stable and has a much longer battery life. Email is the key to Blackberry...very easy to set up and the push vs send/recieve is big. The 8830 was easy to set up with bluethtooth car and headset and email took 2 minutes and I was up and running.
As for Sprint, we can all tell horror stories about CSR at any carrier...bottom line...they're all the same. I can't complain about my experience with Sprint.
The only drawbacks are the camera and Wi-Fi....but I don't care about the camera and the WiFi only drains batteries and with unlimited data plans, who cares about WiFi. So for me, the 8830 is ideal. I am headed to Ireland, London and Spain in the next 4 months for work, so the removable sim card is big since you can rent a international sim card for a week. (I know the 8830 is a world phone, but I would imagine the rates are steep).2 out of 2 users found this user opinion helpful.

Summary: This is my first and lat Blackberry. Such a shame. I was so excited about this product. I feel so let down... I'll tryu and explain my complaints and concerns. Email and text messeges, are extremely bland. No GIFs jpegs or vidoes come through. instead you get HTML code. Which really just makes it hard to read your messege. You can click on the code which will bring the blackberry browser on line and display the afore mentioned GIFS.... This really makes the emails and txts so beyond bland and unpleasent to work with.
Instant messeging, is not included. Blackberry uses its own IM system. They do not include Yahoo or Windows IMs. You can down load it so I have heard. However, I never did find it to Down load it to my unit. What I did find was heart break... RIM sells you applications to install these appications. The Cost, whopping 49.99 per app.! These are basic features that most but you most basic model cells come with. So basically, to bring the 8830 up to speed with any other cell/PDA, you must spend an extra $100.00 plus. Talk about nickle and diming! I gues these units are for older folks who simply do not know that IMs basic to most cells. Or that Emails and Text messeges do not have to look so bland. Gues we should be happy that RIM did not make them appear like the green screens in the Matrix!
The keys are also very close together. makes it a bit hard to use. The Curve has a better design, has a Camara, Uses Windows and an intergrated Media player. The 8830 will not allow you to view mpegs on the internet unless you upgrade for 49.99. No you tube or ebaum... no graphics, gifs or jpegs or mpegs... wow! What a shame this thing really had promise. I wont be keeping it, and perhaps if the rest of you do the same, RIM wont try and take us for every cent they can. If the product cost about 150.00 less then perhaps they could justify the watered down dumbed down product. One would not mind buying the applications required to bring it to the post 2K world.
Another thing to consider... Sprint CSR, is the just insanely poor! It took 3 days and over 12hours of calls to get the phone activated and fully functional!2 out of 2 users found this user opinion helpful.

The email (of course) is wonderful, but the Sprint 8830 goes beyond Verizon's version by providing an unlocked GPS that works well with both Google Maps and BB Maps (both FREE), Stereo Bluetooth (ADSP) support and the ability to use any SIM while traveling abroad! I just returned from Europe; using my 8830 in Portugal, Spain & Germany. The emails flowed right in upon landing with no issues at all!

I'm not concerned about it not having a camera or any of those other luxury items. This phone keeps me connected to the office and my co-workers, and is an invaluable tool that helps me stay on top of tasks, projects and important meetings. It does all those things and then some. There are many useful applications for this phone, but I especially like the Pocket Express. The display screen is nice, bright and very easy on the eyes especially when viewing emails, attachments, or web content. I have no issues with the keyboard layout or the location of the quick keys and ports. The phone is actually a real pleasure to use. While not as cool as an iPhone-like touchscreen interface, I much prefer scrolling around with the trackball to pushing directional arrows. My only gripe is that I wish our organization had went with Verizon rather than Sprint. Sprint service is just horrible. Verizon is the service provider on my personal cell phone, and have been very pleased with the service and ability to get a good signal in places where others such as Sprint fail to deliver. Verizon does try to rip you off though, so you have to watch those sneaky bastards. I guess I can't complain considering I'm not footing the bill here, but there's there's nothing worse than having to repeat "I'm sorry, can you say that again?" more often than having an actual conversation! And don't get me started on dropped calls. Other than that, this is a very business-like phone for business minded people. If you're looking for a trendy phone with snazzy colors, built-in high-res cameras, gigs of storage capacity to store your entire music collection or slick touch screen user interface you should look elsewhere. If you want a smart phone that gets right down to business than this phone does the job nicely.

The GPS is fantastic, the email capabilities are incredible, and the phone is solidly constructed. The keypad is great, and I don't find it to be slippery at all. I have no complaints about this phone. If you have Sprint, a BlackBerry is the best way to go. I had a Windows Mobile phone for the last year, and it was terrible. Windows Mobile is slow, unresponsive, and freezes a ton. Don't ever buy a windows mobile phone.
