BlackBerry Bold 9700 (T-Mobile) price range: $245.99

The good: The RIM BlackBerry Bold 9700 boasts a sleeker design that includes an optical trackpad, a 3.5mm headphone jack, and a brilliant display. The smartphone is 3G capable and offers Wi-Fi with UMA support, Bluetooth, and GPS. It also gets a faster processor and updates to BlackBerry OS 5.0.
The bad: The BlackBerry browser doesn't compare to the competition. The handset's compact size results in a smaller display and keyboard, but they aren't deal-breakers.
The bottom line: The RIM BlackBerry Bold 9700 brings T-Mobile its first 3G BlackBerry and improves on its predecessor with a sleeker design and more power. We only wish it had a better browser to complete the package.

I'm really happy with my Bold 9700!
by DavesAlive on July 9, 2011
Pros: Long battery life, user friendly, easy to use
Cons: Has to be rebooted once a month, numbers and letters aren't the same as other phones making it difficult to figure out certain phone numbers that end in a word.

Summary: I am a Blackberry Power User. I use my phone daily. I use it for long conference calls in the field (using an Otterbox Commuter series case), sending and receiving emails, taking pictures, emailing photos, short videos, and other industry specific applications for my job.
I downloaded the OS6 operating system from the Blackberry website and love my phone even more than before. I installed a 16GB memory card for greater music and photo memory. I use my phone as an MP3 player while at the gym, and take great photos of sunsets, people, work projects and more! The flash works great and is a welcomed asset to many of my photos. I can use it as a flashlight when needed (in video mode).
I've owned this phone for one year and couldn't be happier with it! -
Great for 2009, 2010
by johnmichaels20 on June 18, 2011
Pros: Back in the day, Blackberry was awesome! It was fast, the most modern, yet affordable and perfected. Durable, good camera, BBM, and before I ever wanted a touch screen phone, I wanted a good physical keyboard and touchpad.
Cons: App store was atrocious, which is why Blackberry is going under today. Also, late into its life, dropped many calls, and with BB as always, email comes 20 minutes later than in the actual mailbox. Phone died when calls could only be heard on speaker.
Summary: If this were a year and a half ago, I'd say go with it! Today, go Android or IPhone. It was fast for its times, but slow compared to ...
Summary: If this were a year and a half ago, I'd say go with it! Today, go Android or IPhone. It was fast for its times, but slow compared to everything else today. I do look back with fondness on the phone, and the Bold 9000, for their times. he browser, for its time, was way better than the Blackjack series, and other non-touch phones, especially BB Curves. Camera flash helped out too, which in its time, wasn't everywhere. The touch pad was great on this phone, before touch screen was truly perfected in mid 2010. For 2009 and early 2010, it was great!

Very good but.....
by emmerc on February 14, 2011
Pros: This is a multimedia and internet oriented sleek smartphone. It will provide you all the updates from all your email accounts, facebook and so on. The trackball is very sensitive and efficient.
Cons: Very few free applications are available for this phone. I am coming from a Treo 650 so I miss the touch screen very much. The Treo had also better reception.
Summary: I have two weeks with the Blackberry 9700 and I already went back to my old bulky treo 650 for a couple of days! Some times during the calls I ...
Summary: I have two weeks with the Blackberry 9700 and I already went back to my old bulky treo 650 for a couple of days! Some times during the calls I heard the other one as if I were speaking to Donald the Duck!
I know, I should had move to the iPhone but I couldn't afford it and the BB9700 was a gift as well as the Treo 650 once was.
I have over 1700 friend in Facebook so I uninstalled the application in the BB because it was annoying receiving a bunch of notifications every moment.
I will give to the BB some time but every day I see my old bulky Treo 650 waiting for me at my desk and I long for it! This is weird!
In the Treo 650 I have a free PDF reader, the Documents to Go application came pre activated. With the BB I have to pay for all these things! -

Great phone with a few needed corrections
by cllang on December 22, 2010
Pros: I love Blackberry products and have been a fan for years. My phone does everything I need to stay in touch no matter where I am at.
Cons: My only misgiving with this phone is that it locks up after so many messages with the same person. I wish RIM would resolve this problem that has been ongoing since it's release.
Summary: Please make a very good phone a perfect phone by addressing the text messaging issue with a quick, effective issue to a relatively simple issue.

This problem did not occur in my previous Blackberry phones and it shouldn't occur in this one. PLEASE FIX THIS RIM !!! -

Replaced my Pearl with this unit.
by keephimfirst on December 21, 2010
Pros: Much faster than the pearl 8100. Like the full keyboard and better sound from speakers. Trackpad is a great improvement over the trackball.
Cons: Full keyboard may be difficult for large fingers.
Summary: Price was free so the upgrade was of course worth it. I did add a low data plan package that I did not have before, so now I get more ...
Summary: Price was free so the upgrade was of course worth it. I did add a low data plan package that I did not have before, so now I get more from a Blackberry as it was designed. I would have preferred the 9700 unit, but did not want the cost.

Good but could be better..
by fixandtweak on November 17, 2010
Pros: Bright and vivid screen, fast processor, good call quality, nice qwerty keyboard, track-pad that works, messaging capability.
Cons: Web browser that resets itself, small fonts, no expanded VoIP support, dial numbers off to one side vs the middle, DOES NOT ALLOW TO SET UP PERSONAL EMAIL DIRECTLY FROM THE DEVICE, have to go to carriers website to do it.
Summary: This phone is supposed to be amongst the best in terms of communication and messaging, however it falls seriously short in that area.
Here's my gripes:

Here's my gripes:
1. No native built-in SIP client! Come on RIM! Nokia has had it since its first E-series phone was introduced in 2005. Lets say I want to use my long distance provider to call over Wi-Fi to Europe. In Nokia I just set this up once and then enjoy some super low rates of calling while anywhere to anywhere at the hot spot. Not so easy with RIM. I was able to find an app in the Blackberry store that supposedly would give me this capability, but at $30 price point?? Give me break! This should have been built-in as a part of the VoIP calling deal..
2. NO SKYPE. That's about said it. I can's use Skype unless I am on Verizon network and have one of their variants. Skype did not bother writing the app for BB. A third-party app is substandard.
3. Personal email won't set up from the device - one has to go to carrier's website to do it.
Overall the 9700 is not a bad device won't quite measure up to Nokia's E-Series. -
a solid phone with op5
by fourtyfours on November 8, 2010
Pros: a solid messaging phone with a good battery life gps works very well
Cons: when i had this phone it was to touchy i had to back up and restore 19 percent of the time
Summary: if you dont mind the slight touchyness of it the blackberry bold is a great messaging phone

Above Average Phone; Unimpressive Service
by pasieka2 on November 8, 2010
Pros: Very easy to text, read emails, edit documents previously saved as attachments, navigate the web through favorites pages.
Cons: The phone will drop calls on Wi-Fi if the signal fades instead of transitioning back to Mobile Network. T-Mobile's service cannot handle highly populated areas like downtown Chicago, football/baseball stadiums and its definition of 3G is suspect.
Summary: This phone has many cool features and is very easy to use. Unfortunately, it can drive you up the wall with the dropped service in densely populated areas. The battery ...
Summary: This phone has many cool features and is very easy to use. Unfortunately, it can drive you up the wall with the dropped service in densely populated areas. The battery life is okay, lasts roughly two days without a recharge. I would consider trying it on another network.
One more con: Incoming text messages/emails drop calls.
