BlackBerry Bold 9900 (T-Mobile) price range: $99.99 - $459.99
- Reviewed by: Nicole Lee

The good: The RIM BlackBerry Bold 9900 has a very polished design, with a svelte form factor, a sharp touch-screen display, and a wonderful QWERTY keyboard. Notable features include a 1.2GHz processor, the new BlackBerry OS 7, 720p HD video recording, and NFC support. Photo quality is excellent.
The bad: The BlackBerry Bold 9900's call quality is slightly flawed. It's also very expensive when compared with similar handsets.
The bottom line: BlackBerry enthusiasts will love the BlackBerry Bold 9900, but its high price tag will be a deterrent to many.

Many improvements, some drawbacks
by tech-rock on August 28, 2011
Pros: Hardware looks great
Faster processor noticeable
Best display on a blackberry with a keypad
Touchscreen is useful (but also an occasional nuisance)Cons: Can't believe they ruined the camera (no autofocus, image quality is junk)
Battery life is not as good as last Bold
Headset issue ?
One less Convenience KeySummary: I have used almost every blackberry over the last 10 years. I am a fan and friends joke that they have never seen me without one in hand. Got the ...
Summary: I have used almost every blackberry over the last 10 years. I am a fan and friends joke that they have never seen me without one in hand. Got the new 9900 and have decidedly mixed thoughts. On the positive side, the hardware is very nice (although heavier and wider than last few bolds). The screen is Great -- finally web pages are actually recognizable. Touchscreen integration is interesting -- useful in many respects, but makes we aware of how often I inadvertently touch the screen while typing or talking. I will learn to hold the device on its edges, but for a former blackberry user, this is a change. I think the OS 7 (seems identical to me to OS 6) works well on this device and is well-suited in most cases for touchscreen use. Two finger "pinch" zoom works, but does not reformat text as it does on IOS devices.
I have a few meaningful complaints, though. So far, my battery life is not great. I talk and browse alot and never had an issue with the last Bold (or any other blackberry). Now, i run down to 50% very quickly. I am hoping that this is a new battery / conditioning issue. My biggest complaint is the camera -- The lack of auto-focus is a very strange and unwelcome step backwards. I have taken some great, impromptu family and business photos with the older blackberry devices. While a real camera is obviously better, the "always available" nature of the smartphone allowed for some great moments -- I had camera on a convenience key and used it. The new camera, without auto-focus sucks beyond words. I have read that this was a hardware issue (to preserve thin phone), but whoever at Blackberry thought it made sense to gut the camera should be fired.
Also, many won't care, but I still use a corded headset and have noticed that several of my older blackberry headsets are not auto detected by the 9900. some work, though, so i assume it has to do with the design of the headset and not the device.
Overall, a nice device. No way this converts an iphone user, but a nice berry for berry users.4 out of 4 users found this user opinion helpful.

Review seems to be incomplete
by Flyguy29 on September 5, 2011
Pros: Fastest BB of all seems to be consistent
Cons: Poorer voice quality and battery life plus missing the fact that the autofocus was removed seems to contradict "the best Blackberry of all" conclusion when all the user gains is a superior browsing experience over the older models.
Summary: Three steps backwards, three steps forward (battery lire, no auto focus, call quality vs, NFC, Touch/Zoom and snappier speed. Just slightly more compelling for BB users to upgrade but ...
Summary: Three steps backwards, three steps forward (battery lire, no auto focus, call quality vs, NFC, Touch/Zoom and snappier speed. Just slightly more compelling for BB users to upgrade but not enough to convert new smartphone users. When will RIM actually retake a LEAD in the market they once established?

Summary: I am sick of people knocking down this amazing device. Common BlackBerry fans and support them now so that we can keep these products available to us. Only thing needed is Skype and a few more apps. I have just switched from the king of Android devices the Samsung Galaxy s2 to a Bold 9900 and the BB is much better. It has better call quality and the world's best keyboard. It is also not as annoying to use as it has well thought out actions and functions.

Summary: I have a BB Bold 9900. The screen is small because it gives room to the keyboard, but that's is what I wanted. The size is too wide to talk like a cellphone. I wish it has a better camera quality but I don't care too much. I bought it in Canada, it is unlocked and I use it in Colombia and other south american countries with any SIM card without any problem. I haven't use all the applications, I just got it. In comparation with other products like Ipod Touch and iPad, the others have other purposes I don't need all of that in my cellphone.

After a long wait, disappointment.
by wdtarver on September 5, 2011
Pros: Great keyboard, larger screen with touch capability, nice design.
Cons: No UMA (wifi calling), no mobile hotspot, shorter battery life compared to previous BBs, fixed-focus camera, some software features and apps not working smoothly with BB7, less available apps memory than 9780.
Summary: I am a long-time BB user, although not a corporate account. I currently own 9700 and Playbook. I waited months for this phone to come out, but it has turned ...
Summary: I am a long-time BB user, although not a corporate account. I currently own 9700 and Playbook. I waited months for this phone to come out, but it has turned out to be a big disappointment. While it looks cool and the keyboard is great, I can think of no good reason to get this phone instead of a BB 9780. At this point, I am considering going to iOS, Android, upgrading from my 9700 to 9780, or nothing (probably in that order). If BB had simply done a 9780 with 9900 keyboard and added mobile hotspot, I would be all over it. Then I could have used my iPod Touch for apps while waiting for the QNX-based BBs. Now I am forced to considering leaving BB. That is a sad state of affairs.

Summary: You'll be dissapointed if you'll be using the bold 9900 for heavy internet/app usage, but if you actually use the bold 9900 as a commuter phone you'll be satisfied as its really efficient and user friendly. I've had this phone for 10 months and I don't regret buying it one bit!
