Decent, dependable device
by snowmutt on April 20, 2011
Pros: Security, responsive trackpad, excellent keyboard, wonderful call quality, excellent battery life.
Cons: Web browser, camera quality, UI is dull, device freezes, heaven help you if you do not have a memory card.

Summary: Let's face it- if you ever have had a Blackberry, you know what RIM brings to the table, and you know where it is lacking. Any Curve is a lower tier smartphone, and the 3G doesn't erase this fact. It is a wonderfully dependable device, will hold up to constant usage with no wear to the trim or keyboard keys. In this day and age of high end, demanding devices, the Curve still sells very well because you get a great keyboard (duh, it's a Blackberry), wonderful battery life, and a trackpad which reacts to tiny commands. This last is extremely important, as the screen is small, and a less responsive system would blow past the selection you need. As usual, email is fluid, and security is so far ahead of other devices, it is not even close. No virus worries, no spam.
However, the downside of RIM and the devices they put out is that they pale in comparison to other devices in so many areas these days: user interface is stale (opinion) and very unresponsive (simply fact). The device often freezes, usually when uploading something or when processing commands that take several steps. The 624 mhz processor just seem unable to work at high demands at times, slowing the Curve to a crawl. The web browser is just plain bad when compared to mid tier to entry level devices running Android. Application selections are moderate at best. Buy a memory card, for you will fill the Curve quickly. The camera, video recorder, and other multi media selections are very fair, near poor.2 out of 2 users found this user opinion helpful.

Gutted version of REAL BlackBerry. Only for lite user.
by robindustygraves on February 9, 2012
Pros: All BB security, years of research, SOLID design, BB keyboard, GPS Satellite, Bluetooth device wireless, Wi-Fi device to device, Loud speaker, better than average quality, standard camera, fairly predictable features.
Cons: You immediately notice (if you use Blackberries ) that is a gutted version of previous models! Missing the flash, memory is only 1/4 Gig, and the BB OS (programming)is so bloated with junk that "YOU" can't use the phone- it CRASHES constantly!
Summary: I put a FULL, Quick review on my website, kidbots.com that is 50,000+ characters, and, which has photos of the ERROR SCREENS. This review is at kidbots.com/...
Summary: I put a FULL, Quick review on my website, kidbots.com that is 50,000+ characters, and, which has photos of the ERROR SCREENS. This review is at kidbots.com/WEBADD/BLACKBERRY_9300_REVIEW/BB_9300_REVIEW.html This BB 9300 is with WIND Mobile in Vancouver, B.C. Canada, and between the totally unnecessary junk in the BB Operating System, OS6, like 2 full-screen videos every time you turn it on ( memory hogs )and the dozens of "start up" technical problems and even worse, the dozens of MANAGEMENT problems with WIND, the BlackBerry experience is destroyed. I purchased the the 9300 CASH, (over $200 US )and then had to buy the cases, the SD memory cards, 2 spare batteries and 2 battery chargers, etc. etc. and after 2 months all I do is FIGHT with it! I welcome the New Kid On the BLOCK, WIND, and will continue with them and the BB 9300, since Wind's problems can be immediately FIXED, and the BB 9300 is completely "flashable" (like upgrading a computer from Windows 98 to Windows XP ) and with a new operating system that allows the "USER" to "choose" to delete ridiculous Menus, delete ridiculous Memory Hogs, delete ridiculous "FEATURES" ( like full screen videos you do not want every time it turns on ! )delete pages of "words" on lists the BB 9300 has permanently loaded in the OS that take up memory, delete, delete, and more delete, so that you, ( THE CUSTOMER )...can actually "USE" it! I have Pay AS you Go type of PRE paid, UNLIMITED 'everything' including BB, and DATA, and TETHERING ( connecting to my computer to USB to the BB 9300 to give Internet to my computer - that is how I am typing this )Absolutely NO other Cell Phone Provider will give me this for $49 a month! If I had known that RIM was unleashing a gutted DOWN graded cell phone on the unsuspecting public, I would have gladly paid more for a better Blackberry. Too late, there is no upgrade "path" - when I asked a WIND rep what to do with the 9300 if I got a REAL Blackberry, they said to "throw it out" or "Give it to a KID". However, any kid is 10 times MORE demanding than any adult, and would be completely disgusted in less than a day! I hope RIM upgrades the OS 6 so that the "USER" can 'choose' what to delete, to free up memory - as it is, the 9300 continually pops up with hundreds of ERRORS, most of which relate to LOW MEMORY! DO NOT BUY THIS phone, or get it "FREE" on a plan, IF you are an experienced Cell Phone USER -- YOU WILL BE Severely Disappointed! If you have a wretched "OLD" phone with a PQRS7 keyboard, and want something a bit better, this might work. It will NOT do anything Modern like Full Online Internet Video Streaming, longer than a few seconds, and then kicks out into an ERROR MESSAGE! If you have a few more DOLLARS, get a REAL Blackberry - they are likely worth the extra money.

Summary: I got this phone to replace my 9000 since the trackball, the speakerphone and the ringer all became inoperable. Ill start by saying that my love for Blackberry ends at their great keyboards and easy email. i dont like a single ither thing about them; but since most of my day is messaging i feel that this is where i am at. Also, AT&T doesnt offer any "good" Android phones with actual keyboards.
UPDATE June 15: After having this phone for 3 months now, I have to say i cant wait to get rid of it. It is slow, it freezes ALL THE TIME, the screen has the resolution of a 2001 Nokia, the keyboard is loose, and i am on my 3rd phone in as many months. i guess its my fault for not realizing that, even though it has a smartphone marque, this is a low-end device.

I am currently saving up for a G2/Desire Z because there is just about no way i can last 2 whole years with this already outdated piece of equipment.

Summary: I love the phone, however, I have had to have it changed 5 times in total. Ridiculous. I love the interface, blackberry messenger and the way you can surf on internet or facebook.
But, obviously changing it 5 times, there is a problem somewhere. The phone kept crashing, the light of the keypad did not come up or randomly when I wrote messages or text, or simply when I was in the menu. Then the light of the screen goes up and down even if I was writing an email for example. So small details but really annoying details! So now T-mobile is sending me the Nokia E73, we shall see... But I will miss my Blackberry!1 out of 1 users found this user opinion helpful.

Good entry level smart phone and at a good price.
by crazy canuck--2008 on January 18, 2011
Pros: It's small so that it doesn't stick out too much, in your hand or pocket, and it's easy to use.
Cons: The screen is small, of course when you compare it to full screen smart phones, and so it's not as nice to look at videos, if that's what you want.
Summary: If you're looking for your first smart phone that won't cost you a bundle this is a good option. You can use Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn and other social ...
Summary: If you're looking for your first smart phone that won't cost you a bundle this is a good option. You can use Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn and other social media tools (heard there's about 17,000 apps as of January, 2011). You can do the usual texting on it and the Blackberry Messenger is great because you can message another blackberry user without it costing you anything (my Filipino friend does that with her friends back in the Philippines). If you don't plan on watching too many videos on your first smart phone then this is a really good option, but if you want to watch videos than you might want something that has a bigger screen.

Summary: I do not like this phone at all. I will try to take a picture and I can't because I click on the camera icon in the middle of the screen and it freezes, I can move the trackpad to other areas of the screen but still cant take a picture. Another thing is it always freezes with the timer in the middle of the screen, this is not funny, and it happens at least twice a day. I find this infuriating.

Does what it's supposed to do, but not always very well
by mrmattsson on December 20, 2011

Cons: buggy and sometimes does what it wants
camera quality is shameful

Summary: This is the third Blackberry that I have had in less than 3 years - They really don't last. With the number of issues that I have had and considering the fact that I am not a heavy user, I just don't think that these phones are very well made. I intend to switch to an iphone or android as soon as possible.

Summary: The phone itself I am pleased with. Haven't had it crash yet (fingers crossed) and was impressed with how quickly it loaded up videos on Youtube. Have had issues with the software for PC and Mac but then I don't get on with Samsung's Kies software either. Have had one or two problems with apps not working as well as they did when I first downloaded them- would be nice if RIM gave us a PDF reader for free which would solve the issue. Like I said the desktop software sucks, especially with photo's and upgrades- solved the photo problem with a drag n' drop straight on to the media card. Probably won't stick with Blackberry when my contracts up but for my first smartphone I'll give it a thumbs up!
