The good: The RIM BlackBerry Curve 8330 for Verizon Wireless offers integrated Bluetooth and GPS. The smartphone also delivers good call quality and strong messaging capabilities with a full QWERTY keyboard.
The bad: Unlike Sprint, Verizon doesn't offer support for its 3G streaming media services on the BlackBerry Curve 8330.
The bottom line: Though we wish the smartphone supported Verizon's VCast multimedia services, the RIM BlackBerry Curve 8330 is still an excellent smartphone that delivers on call quality and of course, e-mail.

Great phone/PDA, some quirks

Summary: This is a great phone; it will do almost anything you want to do. It has Great reception compared to other phones (chocolate 3, V750, Gleam, env2, dare) on the same network. The battery life is good, but could be better (8ish hours or hard nonstop usage, 2 days avg usage). The keyboard is a tad small, but not unusable. I don't like having to press so many buttons to do the simple tasks (text message= scroll to messenger, select messenger, hit menu button, scroll to compose message, select, find contact, select contact, write message, click send, confirm send) That?s a lot of work for a text, and there are some shortcuts you can use, but it is still a long process. This follows suit with everything else on the phone. Don't be mistaken, if this is your first BB there is a learning curve; However if you can look past this there isn't really anything else to complain about. For what it is you can?t beat it. If you need your life to fit onto a phone there is no better way to go, if you just want a keyboard phone then go elsewhere.

Call Quality: 3G, Much better than earlier generation of LG, Samsung and Motorola. Noise reduction really works.
Email: great blackberry email integration with your Corporate, Yahoo and Gmali. Hotmail works but not so good as others.
Web: Faster Browser. Opera mini download can give more leverage.
Media: Good media player, you can listen to free radio streaming sites. Excellent neat interface.
Camera: Excellent picture quality for a phone camera.
Calendar: Works great if you integrate your corporate email/calendar. Alerts are not so explicit.
GPS: Blackberry curve comes with in built device GPS feature, which is free to use. Blackberry map works with it and you can use for directions and locator services. No VZ navigator subscription required.
Recommonded Applications: Blackberry App World. Viigo, Slacker Radio, Opera Mini, Google Maps1 out of 1 users found this user opinion helpful.

Does everthing I want and more.

Summary: I have had this for about a year. Came over from a 700p which I thought was the greatest thing ever. But this is a step above. From the direct e-mails to web browser. This is a great PDA. The reminders on the calendar and how I can send it to my wifes BB is slick. I can put all my songs in the media and run to music. The passwork keeper helped me to remember important passwords. I have access to my facebook. Clear calls. I could go on all day about this phone.
One thing I will say about it is... the back battery cover. The little handle came off. Thats OK, I have a hard cover on it so it wont go any where anyway.
And a plug for Verizon. Great carrier. Wont go anywhere else anytime soon.1 out of 1 users found this user opinion helpful.

Summary: I was in the market for my first smartphone. I have had a recent increase in Email usage, and the email functions of smartphones pushed me towards them. This was the phone I was originally going to get, but the new flashy Samsung Omnia caught my eye. I gave it a whirl and while I love the features of it, the touchscreen ruined it for me. I took it back for this phone and I havent't regretted it once.
I'm coming from a Samsung Alias, so the QWERTY keyboard is awesome for me. The Trackball is awesome, i totally prefer it over directional keys now. The software runs really smooth and is a huge upgrade over the Windows Mobile performance wise. I love how you get the apps for Mobile Banking and Facebook on the Main Menu. And the Internet Radio apps you can get are awesome! The Micro USB is a plus and the 3.5 MM Jack is just want I want. The only complaint is that the Camera isnt as good as I wanted, but i guess because I came from a 5 megapixel camera off of the Omnia.
So all in all the Curve is a great phone worth picking up in my opinion. Its only $100 after rebate now, so It's not very expensive.1 out of 1 users found this user opinion helpful.

What more could someone want?
by hesatease on February 6, 2009
Pros: Responsiveness, great display, email push, phone clarity/volume.
Cons: I hate clutter. I tend to see a little of that when displaying all the apps on your phone. For one, you can hide the apps you don't use, and you can also create a folder

Summary: I love the responsiveness of the OS in general, and the sharp display. The email push function works beautifully (of course). Especially, I've been really impressed with how clear the phone speakers are, both in loudspeaker, bluetooth and on the device. There's no buzzing or rattling, the volume gets quite loud if needed with little to no distortion. It just works. Also, I've read some criticisms of the BlackBerry browser loaded onto these devices. This is the best one I've used yet. It loads pages fairly quickly, and is the closest I've seen on a BB to display the page more or less in it's original format. It's not Safari on the iPhone, but that isn't perfect by any stretch of the imagination, either. This browser, for me, has been very functional overall and I prefer it over the other offering available (that I know of) for the BlackBerry's, Opera Mini. Now, when Firefox comes out with their mobile browser...
This is my 3rd BlackBerry, so I was able to pick up and run with the device almost immediately and latched on to the new features fairly easily. Even for a new person to these phones, though, I think the system is intuitive enough that one can get the basics up and running pretty quickly with little to no banging of their head on the wall. And, once you get used to using it and seeing what it's capable of, I think most people will keep spending more and more time with it, thereby increasing their efficiency, and becoming true CrackBerry addicts before they know it. You really tend to not put this thing down.
If there's any negative points I would bring up with this particular one, it would have to be just two things. One, with all the BlackBerry's I've had and used, the display tend to very quickly feel cluttered to me. There's ways around this, i.e.: setting unused icons to hide, or moving them in to their own folder. Also, the themes that tend to come with them allow you to show only the first 4 or 7 on the home screen and one can look at the rest by clicking a dedicated icon. The new setup with the "blocks" of icons (like on the Storm and Bold), seems a little cleaner. But, this works.
Also, I'm not a fan of the trackball. I'll admit (grudgingly) that it's a better solution than the trackwheel was, especially when navigating the numerous icons and web pages, but for me it's been hard to set it's sensitivity. It's either too touchy or too unresponsive it seems. But I got used to it. I like the idea of the touchscreen a la Storm and upcoming Thunder, but I don't like the idea of a full touch keyboard. Perhaps an integration of the two like the G1, only with classic BlackBerry functionality and dependability? Just a thought. Hope someone with RIM sees this...
Overall, one would be hard-pressed to find a better phone than this. The bugs have been worked out, the price is right these days compared to all the features packed in this device, and it's a classic BlackBerry in every way.1 out of 1 users found this user opinion helpful.

My first BB...very happy!
by berryaddict3 on January 14, 2009
Pros: full keyboard, email, messaging layout, ability to use ANY song as a ringtone, media
Cons: doesn't have solitare, screen smudges very easily, having applications start up where you left off can be good sometimes, but usually it's annoying. call quality (sometimes) and keyboard can be cramped at times. sluggish at times

Summary: I've had this phone now for about a month, and I love it! The first day I got it I couldn't put it down. I chose the Curve over the Storm because I wanted something solid and reliable, and something I could still love after two years. After reading so many bad reviews about the Storm, I decided to go for the Curve, even if the Storm is a lot prettier.
Sorry! I spoke too soon earlier when I said you couldn't seperate your email from your text messages. Other than that, the same problems exist. And watch out for the Brick Breaker game, it's highly addictive.
I love having a full keyboard. It makes typing in passwords and websites so much easier than on other phones. Admittedly, the keyboard is cramped sometimes. If I am writing a long e-mail, I have to stop and stretch my fingers out after a while. I'm a slightly smaller than average female with small hands, so it is somewhat disappointing that I have trouble with the keyboard.
When I first got it, the interface took a little while to get used to. I still haven't figured out some things, even after reading manuals and checking online, so maybe some things can't be changed. (My problem: I want to have JUST the text messages up in my messages box, and my email messages in my email box. I wish it would just give a notice saying "Missed Call" rather than sending me a text, it seems a little redundant and is just an extra step I have to go through to clear out my phone.)
Battery life kinda sucks. I have to charge it every night. I do text pretty often, and use the music player inbetween classes, and use the browser every so often, but I had expected a little more.
My biggest concern is when the little hour glass pops up and my screen freezes up. It happens randomly, and I don't know if I'm doing something wrong or if it's just the phone. Avoid having to turn this phone off; it takes FOREVER to reboot. That little hour glass just spins and spins, dissapears for a second, then comes back to spin some more. Torture.
Some good news: it is an EXCELLENT device despite the quirks. Text messaging is awesome, I LOVE LOVE LOVE being able to open Excell documents and actually being able to see it laid out properly. Browser is ok, but Opera Mini helps out a lot. Being able to watch youtube videos between classes is AWESOME. I love the media player, how the songs are laid out. I was worried about it when putting songs on there from my computer ( it would make the title look like 01 taylor swift-somethingsomething and wouldn't let me edit it, but when it got onto my phone it was corrected automatically).
I was a little worried about the size, my previous phones have all been smallish flip phones that fit well in a pocket. My worries turned out to be pointless. I wear tight jeans, and my phone fits nicley inside without having to worry about it popping out. If not in my jeans, it fits just as well in my jacket pocket.
The screen is very pretty, pictures look great. I love the calender! Helps keep me organized because I can put all sorts of usefull info in there.
All in all, I am addicted. Even though I had expected a little more, I am far from disappointed. Now I just have to wait for the new Curve 8900 to come to Verizon and my new every two to come around, and I'll be all set

Love the phone except..
by boriqua8486 on January 11, 2009
Pros: I love the sleekness of the phone. And love basically everything else about the phone, except the camera.
Cons: he keyboard is a little cramped but could be worse like the Pearl. Internet is a little sluggish. But the major issue is I can't believe how the camera sucks! I love taking pictures while on the go and the camera really does suck for being 2.0 meg.
Summary: I would def, recommend this phone to anyone looking into a Blackberry. I do not like the fact that I pay an extra $30 for the Blackberry service but I ...

Far better than the Storm
by mikeg261 on December 9, 2008
Pros: Good solid feel, lightweight, and fast browser. Great for text and email.
Cons: Nothing so far.
Summary: I went from an 8830 to the Storm, what a mistake. Then I traded for this phone and I am extremely happy.

Nice phone, a little over rated
by stressfactoryfan on December 7, 2008
Pros: Large screen, full keyboard, email, decent camera phone, mp3 player, lots of other useful features
Cons: battery life, doesnt fit well in pockets, slow web browsing, REQUIRED minimum Verizon $29.99/month web access. No extended battery option. For what they charge, they could throw in a media card...jeez
Summary: This is the first smartphone I've owned. I find the interface easy to use. text messaging is a breeze. works great as a portable mp3 player in the car. ...
Summary: This is the first smartphone I've owned. I find the interface easy to use. text messaging is a breeze. works great as a portable mp3 player in the car. sound quality is good.
What I don't like: Internet browser is terribly slow. It took me almost 5 minutes and 12% of my battery charge just to log into my bank and check my balance. I could make a laptop battery last longer than this small phone online. Email hyperlinks are fully spelled out (often 4 or 5 lines long). So, I have to scroll down forever just to get to the actual message body. Phone barely fits into your pocket, and with exposed keys, everything gets pushed putting the phone away, even into the sleeve included. I also bought a BlackBerry holster... very bulky, and I'm always trying to insert/remove phone quickly to avoid accidental button pushing.
Overall, I'm happy with the phone. I just wish I could modify the service plan to exclude internet service/fees, because it is absolutely horrible compared to a real computer.1 out of 1 users found this user opinion helpful.

The Best I've Ever Had
by HuntWorks on November 8, 2008
Pros: The Curve does everything quickly and very well. The settings are fairly intuitive and the trackball just seems natural to use. Sound quality is excellent and texting (even with my big fingers) is a joy. I'm able to use ANY song as a ringtone!
Cons: The only thing I can really complain about is the volume settings for alerts & ringtones. It's just a choice of profiles that only allow Low, Medium, High or Escalating volume You can edit the profiles to set them as you like, though.
Summary: Excellent quality, does everything right - even the media player is better than most phones. Lots of settings adjustments can be made to really customize the Curve to your preferences. ...
