Awesome Phone! Best Nextel Blackberry by far!
by rasv84 on December 22, 2008
Pros: A Blackberry Curve with Nextel Direct Connect
Cons: Sluggish at times, menu system needs to be reworked to be more convenient, battery capacity

Summary: I work at an indirect retail store. I must say that every review I have read about this device is wrong for a couple of basic reasons. In order to rate a phone you must ignore two things: 1) the incompetence of the person who sold it to you who probably did not add the appropriate packages for it to work or 2) you own personal incompetence when it comes to using such a phone. If the internet/e-mail/text messaging doesn't work it is because your account or plan is not properly configured. I can say my text and internet are working perfectly. the one bug i have encountered is on e-mail. For some reason it will not reconcile with your e-mail address sometimes. I still do not know if this is caused by my e-mail account or my phone. Aside from that, GPS, Internet, Text, SMS, messenger and all other features are working perfectly. So if the internet, text, GPS, or some other feature doesn't work it is because your account or line is not properly configured.

Worse phone I ever had.
by Carms711 on February 7, 2009
Pros: I liked the phone style, qwerty keyboard, and the direct connect.
Cons: The texting is terrible and sprint/nextel customer service most of the time could not or would not help the situation. Theyy tell you misleading information.
Summary: I disliked the phone because I do quite a bit of texting. I had to turn my phone off everytime before a reply could be received. This was very annoying. ...
Summary: I disliked the phone because I do quite a bit of texting. I had to turn my phone off everytime before a reply could be received. This was very annoying. Also, the phone does not ring long enough even after the customer service put a extension that may add one or two more rings. So it was more problem to me than it was worth. Before my thirty days were complete I went and traded my phone in for the 8330 smartphone, and I have been quite pleased.

Great product, a few bugs
by xplorerseven on December 16, 2008
Pros: iDen network best for PTT, Nextel service is rock solid in my area, great idea for a new smartphone for diehard Nextel fans. Full-featured phone simply takes the cake as the most versatile phone Sprint has come out with in a long time...
Cons: A few program bugs which should be fixed in the next software update

Summary: Wi-Fi on this phone is the safety net of the iDen network, allowing a backup connection when service is not available, and also a faster connection when 64k is not enough for the job. OS 4.6 (yes, 4.6) is nice for this phone, adds a touch of class to this nice BlackBerry, retaining all of the functionality of the prior OS, while adding MMS capability, a real deal-maker-or-breaker for potential customers. The phone does have a small bug when using text messaging. One owner that I know of could not see the sender information from the MMS messages, nor could he reply to them. Although the MMS function itself worked, this required every MMS replied to be created as a new message.

Pros: Very user friendly
Great call quality

Summary: The upgrade improves the quality of this cell phone ten-fold. I got this phone even reading about the problems and bugs associated with this phone. I experienced the problems everyone else did. In fact I just updated my Blackberry software on my phone tonight, and it has completely turned around the phone for me. I would disregard the last reviews, prior to the new software update being made available.

Summary: I had been a long time Nextel user, until I got fed up with the 7100i. I jumped ship and left berries all together for a few years, I came back to the light with the 8330 with Sprint, until they released the 8350i. Initially I had to debate, give up Rev-do speeds for Ptt? Iden won the battle (wifi helped) and here is my review after having the 8350i for almost 24 hours.
Verdict: It needs some work, but with the right software updates this phone will be a solid 10.
Pros: 1. Style - this is one sexy berry, I have to say. Its all black (with a few hints of yellow here and there, but not much) it is a little bigger than the other curves, but I found it easier to type with. The 4.6 software gives it a 'boldesque' feeling with the menu and the fonts. 2. Wifi, very nice feature that I wish the CDMA berries had. At first I didnt see a need for it, but now that I have it, it would have made downloads with other berries in the past a heck of a lot faster. 3. MMS! MMS at last! Its not some wierd application either its very straight forward MMS. (for those that dont know Sprint berries lack MMS and always have, this is the first one with it). 4.All of the things that make a berry great, email, applictions etc. A2DP Bluetooth 2.0 is great, media player, all the bells and whistles with the solidness of RIM. Interfaces well with work email, all the things that Blackberry is known to do, this is no exception. Its a curve with PTT.
Cons: 1. Speed - if you are new to Nextel please understand the Iden network is not the fastest. Its not 3G. 2. Buggy - I get the little ticking clock(equilivent to an hour glass) often, sometimes when I'm not doing anything at all. 3. The fact that it has an option to report bugs, why is that a con you ask, because it goes to an email called beta@rim.com - the term beta frightens me with a $500 piece of equipment, call me crazy, but it just doesnt seem right. 4. Non customizible home screen. You can save a picture on the home screen, but when you go to the menu and have the list of icons - the pic does not display there. There are also only 2 themes to choose from. Im sure this will work itself out in the future when more themes become available (thats my hope anyway) 5. Twice today I was not able to make any calls, I had full bars, I would call the number and it would just sit and never connect. One call was to another Nextel customer, one was to my home number. I had to try to make the call around 4 times each in order for it to go through. 6. Call clarity, I never had an issue with clarity on the Nextel network - however on some calls (i've made probably 20 today) right when I disconnect the call I hear a very loud buzz noise in my ear. Very strange, havent had that before with any phone, I will continue to monitor and see how that goes. Otherwise the actual call was clear with no issues.

good design bad phone
by blackberryuser on January 26, 2009
Pros: bright screen. liked the desktop icons. mms ummm no antenna if it matters to you really streching to say something good.
Cons: Bad Signal even though web site said i had full strength. screen scratched very easily. Data very slow with no WIFI. WIFI signal bad when other WIFI phones signal good. bigger heavier then 8330 only 1 convience key HORRIBLE GPS,TEXT slow to load docs

Summary: sorry nextel/sprint but you have missed the boat again with this phone. cant say you didnt try though like a little kid trying to keep up with his older brother on a bike. Signal strength for me was very spotty and unlike every other phone i have every had in my life it dosent just have a regular set of bars that indicate signal strength that would be too easy . no they have that in addition to the letters NXTL which in itself represent the types of services available. so if they are all capital letters then you have access to everything that you pay to use but if one letter is lower case then you wont be enjoying the the full range of services ie. sending and receiving text messages, pin messages, DC calls, MMS, web browsing, making or recieving phone calls. confused yet? and thats not even the half of it. so just having full signal really doesnt mean you have full signal. BAD BAD BAD.
Text messaging was good to send but if you want to receive any dont count on it till you turn the phone off and then maybe you might get them. BAD BAD BAD
GPS this only worked after you jump through some hoops. first you have to update the time in the menu system then you need to refresh the GPS before you could get telenav to find you. most of the time that didnt even work. also google maps for this phone dosent work with the build it GPS on this phone. BAD BAD BAD
I felt like i was using old school dial up from 1997 waiting around for web pages to work as there is no 3G with this phone. WIFI was supposed to supplement this lack on Nextel's part but unfortunately what do you do when u have no WIFI??? and when i was back in the office other people had WIFI signal where i didnt. BAD BAD BAD
Dont know if this happend to other people but nextel told me to load a patch to fix my text messaging problems but all it seemed to do was erase all the pre installed ringtones and other noises that the phone comes with. nextel had no idea why and it couldnt be fixed had to get a replacement. i gave this phone 30 days and then returned it. i hope this helps you avoid a bad thing. dont believe the hype or anything about this phone BAD BAD BAD.2 out of 3 users found this user opinion helpful.

BlackBerry meets iDen = eh... next PLEASE.
by tjbettua on November 20, 2009
Pros: It's got all the goods - cam, GPS, email, web, BB apps, contact management and office apps
Cons: slow, poor MMS at first, a few upgrades later, it was ok... still not 100% with all other phones, slow, freezes up, poor reception in certain areas compared to my sprint pcs phone...
Summary: Won't buy one. Office pays for it. All in all, a hindrance at times. There are better phones out there.

Tried the phone for 2 weeks & returned it.
by cdzdenek on September 30, 2009
Pros: Direct Connect is great but that's about it.
Cons: This phone does not SMS. Can't read text msgs in thread format - you need to click on each text individually. When you click reply, you can't read what you are replying to. Calendar utilizes 10 yr old interface technology & completely useless.

Summary: The first phone I received would not stay powered on. It was sent back and I received a second phone. This one worked, but would not check the system for text messages. I was told that the phone needed to be shut off and turned back on to get the messages, but they were working on an update. Last Friday the update was released. I downloaded the update and now the phone works great. Text messages are received as soon as they are sent from friends. Great PDA/ Smartphone now that the new software has been installed.

This phone is Super AWESOME!
by kids123kids on January 10, 2009
Pros: Features: weather, maps, news, built in wi fi for internet connection anytime, calendar, texting, IM, the nextel feature, email, games, come preloaded with 50 different ring tones, works great as an MP3 player w/pretty decent speaker sound.
Cons: Does not have TV and it's hard to find a case that works. I'd love a plastic shell case but as far as I know they do not make one for the 8350i as of yet.
Summary: Highly Recommend!!!!! Very Awesome Phone!
