BlackBerry Curve 8530 - black (Verizon Wireless) price range: $142.55

The good: The RIM BlackBerry Curve 8530 has 3G and GPS support, which the T-Mobile version did not. The compact smartphone also offers Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, and a 2-megapixel camera.
The bad: The smartphone feels a bit cheap in the hand and has a low-resolution screen. You can only save apps to the phone's main memory.
The bottom line: While we're not huge fans of the design, the RIM BlackBerry Curve 8530 is a good choice for first-time smartphone buyers and offers more than its GSM counterpart.

Summary: As someone that has owned MANY different cell phones and works/repairs them, I get to test a lot of phones. I recently got one of these for my own use on VZW. I love the keyboard on it! I had an LG ally but I was tired of the whole-android-phone scene. I use it mainly for answering emails for work, as well as web usage. I feel it fits my professional use well.
The browser is easily accessible and not cramped. I don't like the whole scrolling mechanism. When zoomed in, it's too far in and when you zoom out you can't read it, so you have to zoom back some more and then move the trackpad to the left or the right to continue reading what you were originally reading.
The battery is OK so far. As someone who came from the BB 6350 back in 2002, I could say out of all BB phones, it had the best battery life. I think the worst I had was the 7250 on Verizon. This phone falls between that and the 8330.
The WI-FI is excellent! I haven't had any problems as yet, but i did notice you do need to reconnect if you leave and then come back into the connection.
The media buttons are good. I didn't have this on my 8330, and this is handy because I can press the play button and go into my music or audiobooks. I don't need to go thru many menus just to get my item.
THis phone is a good phone, and is sure to please all. -
Horrible. No, really.
by RebelRayne16 on August 20, 2012
Pros: Music plays good, cute phone, great keyboard... I can't think of anything else.
Cons: Start-Up time, APP WORLD, crazy apps, wi-fi cuts in and out, freezes and runs slow, does power cycles

Summary: If you must have a keyboard, and want a Blackberry like me, look for a better one. This piece of crap just recently started dying when it had almost half a battery left, and last night it started up with a blank white screen and wouldn't go any further. I've only had this phone since May. It freezes whenever it feels like it, and slows down outta nowhere.
The apps are horrible, some of the worst apps I've ever experienced, but I mostly only use Opera Mini and Ubersocial so I chose to overlook that.
Look for the Blackberry Bold 9930 or Curve 9330 instead. The Bold is way more updated anyway. -

Summary: This is a good smartphone that offers a wide range of options. The keyboard is a little hard to use, and some other features are hard to use, but that isn't such a big thing. The bottom line is even though there is a couple issues if you have had it for a long time, you can push past it and enjoy the comfort of this phone. I would not recommend this phone to people who text a lot though.

Works perfectly as long as you DON'T USE IT.
by boutros2 on July 14, 2011
Pros: track pad is superior to track ball. camera is decent enough for casual use. quite the conversation piece if you go back in time and show it to medieval peasants.
Cons: No battery will last in this thing unless the phone is completely idle. I have gone through three perfectly good batteries - the internal circuitry is garbage. The app world software itself is bloatware - updating this takes over 30 minutes. unable to

Summary: I don't know why this is called a good "beginner" PDA. I thought that meant it would have fewer features, cheaper camera, etc. Turns out that what it in fact means, is that you shouldn't expect the piece of trash to work if you actually want to USE it for anything.
Make a one-hour phone call? Wears down the battery.
Pairing to a bluetooth headset? Wears down the battery.
Taking a couple of photos? Wears down the battery.
Can't get a signal? Wears down the battery looking for one.
Using the browser to find an address? Wears down the battery.
Using the GPS feature (which admittedly is limited but useful and pretty cool)? Wears down the battery.
The only way to use this device and its features effectively is to KEEP IT PLUGGED IN CONSTANTLY. -

Sekilas perangkat ini memiliki spesifikasi lebih dari 8520 karena telah memiliki fitur GPS, OS 5.0, dan 3G dalam sebuah perangkat yang lebih murah dan bentuk yang lebih kecil. -

Absolutely ridiculous. RIM shouldn't have released this phone to the public. Angered a customer who was very happy with Blackberry till now. Never will I even think about buying another RIM product. EVER. -

Great product. I love my Blackberry
by halfrantz on October 20, 2010
Pros: User friendly. Everything works. A must for the business user. Surprisingly good battery life.
Cons: After one month, the screen is showing some nicks. I carry the phone in my pocket which may account for the wear. I have ordered screen protectors and will give them a try.

Summary: I have had my blackberry Curve 8530 for about a month now. Since I am a business user, I was not interested in the multimedia features and apps that are touted so heavily by I-Phone and Droid. In fact I tried a Droid and found it downright annoying. Unlike the Droid, everything on the Blackberry is intuitive. I had no difficulty setting up my email accounts. My Gmail calendar syncs perfectly to the Blackberry. Some users have complained about battery life. Perhaps because I don't spend my life on the phone or the web, I have found that the battery lasts a couple of days, about the same as my prior dumb-phone. So I would recommend this product to anyone who wants a business tool, not a toy.

Phone can not be used because of useless battery life.
by karinliddle on October 1, 2010
Pros: How are you supposed to find things to like as you can not use any of the "features" as the battery does not last more than a few hours!!!!!!!!!!!
Cons: Battery is a complete joke. The whole power management in non existent. I bought it so I could have email on the go. If I am out of the office for more than three hours the thing turns off. Yes OFF and I am only receiving about 5 emails, not sending!

Summary: This product has been produced by people who obviously have no idea of what is required in the real world, then advertised and sold by people who do know. The advertising is completely misleading. The product is virtually useless as the battery last for a very short time (less than 4 hours) on minimum usage. In my case I have turned all connections off other than the connection to the network. This connection is essential to make and receive calls, which after all, is what a phone is for. In the four hours before the phone turned itself off I made and received 4 calls totaling twenty minutes airtime and received 6 emails. I have no apps running or anything else. I have no idea what the music player is like or any other "feature" as am afraid battery won't be able to take the drain.
In conclusion this product is just plain useless as a wireless phone if you are away from power for more than 2 or 3 hours or are a heavy user. REMEMBER THAT BATTERIES ARE NOT COVERED BY WARRANTY but in any case a new one will probably perform no better.
Recommendation. Research the product before buying and listen to the negative then get a Samsung for a long battery life..
