A great intro from BB into the full feature smartphone.
by buickr on August 30, 2011
Pros: Great camera, easy to use touch pad keyboard, still has exisiting mouse pad for those insistent on the traditional BB navigation. Great video, tons of memory and new sleek look all with the heritage and reputation of a BlackBerry
Cons: limited cases and accessories

Summary: Still getting used to the Torch, but compared to my other personal phones that were touch screen (main reason I kept returning to BB's base keyboard) this is a great intro for BlackBeryy into the high end smartphones while still keeping their competitive edge for business users. Eliminates the need to carry two phones, combines entertainment with business in one clean and sleek new design

Not the best for business use
by mcie4500 on August 24, 2011
Pros: The phone is sleek, light weight and easy to use. The batter life is good (typical BlackBerry). The new software (version 7) is great with a lot of features.
Cons: The phone seems to get hung up in certain areas. When using the browser, if you click on a link, sometimes it will take multiple time pressing the link before the phone will recognize it. If you are in the phone section and you want to move from the dia

Summary: I have used BlackBerry for years as my company phone. Every time a new phone comes out I i get it. I was excited about the all touch screen. I have an iPhone for my personal phone, so I was not worried about not having an actually keyboard. WRONG! The keyboard on the BlackBerry seems smaller, unless you put it in landscape. I think this would be a great phone for personal use, but I have already called my rep and asked to return the phone and ordered a new Bold 9930.

Best BB yet, very good Touch interface, 7.0 +, Verizon
by CNETRobb on December 9, 2011
Pros: + much faster to boot and much more responsive than Storm2,
+ multitouch works great across web, email, photos, etc.
+ a fully fucntional web browser!
+ BB OS 7-flexible & intuitive
+ BIG, hi res screen
+ Stylish!!
+ email/phone integrationCons: - OS occasionally slows down or more rarely freezes with a few apps, likely symptom of early days of BB 7 OS.
- Two apps failed transfer, including VZ Navigator. Uninstall/reinstall fixed this.Summary: Best overall device for business use due to continued superior email and phone performance + outstanding time savings shortcuts built in to OS combined with new OS and full web integration ...
Summary: Best overall device for business use due to continued superior email and phone performance + outstanding time savings shortcuts built in to OS combined with new OS and full web integration that match key competitors. Overall, a very good, fully functional Smart Phone.
+ WELL worth the upgrade from Storm2!
+ iPhone users show *some* respect at last when they handle it :-)
+ greatly improved home screen UI in BB 7 - simple, fast, flexible, intuitive
+ really nice pop-up options when highlighting numbers and text, best I've seen
+ excellent phone performance, better signal strength vs. Storm2
+ most apps transferred directly or automatically offered upgrade to be compatible with BB 7
+ I have option of corporate iPhone or BB, and BB continues to be my choice so far for all the reasons above.
+ RIM, keep it up, you are getting there in terms of total smart phone experience while continuing to deliver the best integration of phone and email around.1 out of 1 users found this user opinion helpful.

This is a beautiful yet functional device
by ajo45 on October 8, 2011
Pros: The key board works fine for me in both modes. When in portrait mode I hold the phone in one hand and whip out text or emails. Communication is a breeze with this device it is loaded with software to keep you in touch. Battery life has been good for me I
Cons: The user interface is a little complicated but over time you get used to it. It is in no way a deal breaker.
Summary: For me this is a great device. It has kept me very well connected in business and my personal affairs. Blackberry keep up the good work.

The best Blackberry, until you use the virtual keyboard
by tndk90 on September 19, 2011
Pros: Fast, snappy interface. Crisp, clear graphics. Rock solid encrypted Blackberry email and data services.
Cons: The horrible virtual keyboard, the lack of compatibility with older BB apps.

Summary: RIM brought out a great smartphone, with one horrible flaw. This is quite possibly the worst virtual keyboard on any smartphone ever designed. Blackberry has traditionally been a platform where the keyboard rules, but RIM's lack of investment into a virtual keyboard that is quick, responsive, and lack of accuracy is the death of this otherwise great phone.
I tried the BB9850 for less than two weeks before I had to switch it out, but let's start with the positives.
1) Perfect reception. This phone seemed to have the best reception of many new phones I've tried.
2) BB07 is the best OS yet on this platform, it is quick, the "liquid graphics" interface is slick, and it is easy to use
3) The screen is gorgeous, and it is the largest yet on a BB platform.
4) The Torch 9850 has what you'd expect from BB: the best battery life in the smartphone business
But the drawbacks are stark:
1) Virtual keyboard unusable
2) Lack of 4G support for this price range ($199 starting price with two year contract)
3) BB07 looks much more slick than previous versions, but what isn't acceptable is how incompatible it is with older software. There are literally only 200 or so apps in the app store that are available to work on it, compared with the many thousands on the BB06 OS.
If it is available, I'd rather use the Torch 9810: a slider with a real keyboard, and that'd make it a platform to still use.
Looks like the 9850 is nice to look at, but if you can hold out for RIM's QNX based BB's coming next year it is worth the 4-6 month wait. The 9850 is too little, too late.1 out of 1 users found this user opinion helpful.

Great Screen. Great battery life. Great Surprise!
by printercpe on May 20, 2012
Pros: Great screen; fantastic BB email; seamless syncing with Outlook; great battery life. Oh, and it's a terrific phone, too!
Cons: Don't like the native screen lock, but downloaded Slide2Open to solve that.

Summary: I wanted a nice touchscreen smartphone with good syncing with Outlook, good battery life, good email; decent app selection, flash and usb. Thought I might be waiting for Windows 8. iPhone has too many limitations. Android to Outlook is not ready for prime time. The 9850, with its gorgeous screen (and pretty sharp look overall) has been a delightful surprise.
The 9850 has sophisticated integration between BBM and Facebook; amazing battery life (typically 60%+ left after 14-hour day); way more than enough apps for me; I don't have the problems with keyboard some report, and I'm used to a physical keyboard or using wife's iPhone; stable, quick performance; nice for international travel as a world phone. Highly recommended. -

Great phone, very few problems.
by christopherlallen on March 30, 2012
Pros: -Largest screen ever on a Blackberry Smartphone at 3.7 inches. (slightly larger than the iPhone's screen.)
-Physical buttons on the bottom instead of capacitative buttons for navigation including a trackpad which helps to input things precisely and selecCons: -Lack of apps in the app world, however this is becoming less and less of a problem as I see the app world populate more and more with apps.

Good start. Pathetic a month later!!! DO NOT BUY!!!
by oldman14 on January 22, 2012
Pros: Great style and interface. Easy sync with email. Easy sync with contacts and calendar via Blackberry Desktop Manager. Many user adjustable settings. Phone settings and data can be (and most definitely should be)backed up effortlessly.
Cons: Phone Freezes. Phone self-initiates a complete data wipe. Screen scratches easily. Virtual keyboard almost impossible to use in Portrait mode. Battery will not charge beyond 60% (4 to 5 hours in STANDBY).

Summary: All was fine for a month (have had the Torch for about 75 days). Then phone began to freeze. On two occasions did a complete data wipe without any user prodding--had to restore the operating system, then reload all the data from a backup--burned almost 10 hours in aggregate restoring everything TWICE. Sprint Technical Support was full of apologies but no action. Blackberry Technical Support was no better. Battery will not charge past 50 to 60% (after an initial month of fully charging). Sprint does NOT stand behind the phone. Store repair personnel are lost. New visits to rectify problems will cost me $35 a piece. Had a Blackberry Curve for two years and it worked flawlessly. The Torch, too, seemed perfect for about 30 days, so much so that I wrote a largely favorable review for the Sprint Web site (and they will not let me retract or modify, so I apologize to anyone who buys this phone based in part on my older glowing assessment). DO NOT BUY THIS PHONE. Don't believe the positive reviews--including mine. Sprint offers an inexpensive alternative to other carriers but BEWARE--they will NOT stand behind what they sell--even the original battery! I have 22 months to go on my contract (been with Sprint for 13 years!). I'm contemplating "chucking" the Torch and having Sprint reactivate my Curve. I was an ardent Blackberry supporter--no more (it is shameful that RIM has deteriorated to a company that lets this type of inferior product get into the market--by the way, my family all opted for IPhones and they are all VERY happy). After the contract expires, my family and I (4 users) will go elsewhere. We'll pay more but, hopefully, get a carrier that will stand behind the products they sell (and, the one year warranty is, for the most part, a joke--as I said $35 to have Store Repair personnel look at the phone!). For now, I'm forced to grin and bear it!

This phone is not worth the trouble.
by LJGremlin on January 4, 2012
Pros: It looks nice on the outside and that is where the positive aspects end.
Cons: The virtual keyboard is not responsive. The phone is incredibly slow. I've had to reload the software several times due to crashes. Even when it works, it might take 5-10 seconds for the phone to response to commands or your touch.
Summary: This phone will now have me turn to a new company. I'm done with Blackberry. This phone is awful.
