Casio G'zOne Commando (Verizon Wireless) price range: $49.99 - $244.13

The good: The Casio G'zOne Commando is a durable and rugged handset that is also an Android smartphone. It has a great suite of applications for outdoor enthusiasts. Other notable features include Wi-Fi, mobile hot-spot capability for up to five devices, GPS, and high-security encryption for corporate e-mail.
The bad: The Casio G'zOne Commando is unfortunately saddled with bloatware from Verizon, and the default search engine is Bing. Google Maps is not preinstalled either, though you can download it yourself. Casio's snap-out menu is not as fluid as we would like. Photo quality is average, and call quality is a little muddy.
The bottom line: The Casio G'zOne Commando is absolutely the choice if you want a rugged Android smartphone, but you have to keep its various negatives in mind.

Phone is rugged & difinitely water proof.
by wells911 on January 10, 2012
Pros: Phone has good quailty sound, camera takes suprisingly good pictures, text is easy to use, rugged lives up to reputation.
Cons: would like it to be a bit faster but still not bad, I have to disable apps until needed to keep the battery from discharging too quickly
Summary: For the price & ruggedness you can beat it.

Phone has lots of features, but UI is not intuitive.
by corunn3r on December 19, 2011
Pros: rugged, clear screen, lots of features
Cons: UI, slow, easy to unintentionally dial, keypad is tiny and easy to mis-stroke.

Love it! I'm a mom of three, so it needs to be tough!
by Grinnay on November 27, 2011
Pros: Great with spills, kids playing with it, dropping it when my hands are full! I call it my dumb dumb phone!! Mom's are kind of like Military leaders... we need the rough and tough...
Cons: It needs some more refinement. I wish it were a little more sensitive to the touch. It is not as quick as the regular Droids or the Iphone, and the camera quality could be better, but I guess the trade off for the durability!
Summary: Love it! I think every mom should have it, just would like a little more refinement....

Not as tuff as they say.
by thetheplumber on October 20, 2011
Pros: Good reception in areas none to be bad like my daughters home in Taos NM. We have the same service but her phone does not pick up a signal like the commander.
Cons: Mine glass broke and I only had it three weeks. Verison and Casio said that phyical damage was not covered.
Screen too sensative and its takes too many steps just to answer a call. You'll need a blue tooth and use the voice comands.Summary: Good phone but not as tuff as they say.

Android updated from 2.2 to 2.3
by C_gzone on October 6, 2011
Pros: IME smoother touchscreen experience, reduced delay switching apps, better battery life (roughly 15%-20% estimate based on 3 days experience)
Cons: Verizon's App store broken (the "APP" app, lol) which is not much of a con given "Market"), Rumor has it rooted Commando's have difficulty with the update, which somewhat makes sense.
Summary: If you tried out the Commando and were put off by the touchscreen experience, take another look at an updated smartphone (Settings, About, Status, version 2.3.something)

Ok you want it this way, it is just "ok"
by kajunmisfitt on September 4, 2011
Pros: I got this phone to replace the one that wouldn't allow my hearing aids icom to stay programed ,so I CHANGED IT HAS BEEN SOMEWHAT GREAT !!!
Cons: Seems to be a more than average level of understanding to get stuff added or take away from this phone.

Not user friendly software
by santa12345678 on August 31, 2011
Pros: It is durable - which is why I bought it.
Cons: If you are not used to smart phones. sucks. over years they apparently have made so much headway into the technology that they forget how many people dont have ANY experience with such things. no one makes a durable phone that is not a smartphone.... Gott
Summary: Durable - it will last long enough for you to figure it out.... if you want a phone you can just pick up and use, this is not it. Unless ...
Summary: Durable - it will last long enough for you to figure it out.... if you want a phone you can just pick up and use, this is not it. Unless you are versed well in the smart phone family. Since I am not, it is insanely frustrating, i feel like i have been made temporarily handicapped, as I am constantly moving about I have very little time to stop and read the manual at home, and they dont have one you can buy or request. You have to have a printer setup, or a flash drive and a store that will print it out etc... IF i could have found another - reliably durable phone I would have bought it instead.

Very impressed! The prefect phone for me!
by Justin9982 on August 27, 2011
Pros: Durable, fast, impressive speakers, great battery life, low price, very good selection of stock ringtones, home wifi reception is better than my laptop, camera is pretty good, GZgear apps are very cool, and it looks awesome!
Cons: Bing is default search engine, power/unlock button is in strange place, no full qwerty keyboard..
Summary: This is by far the best phone I've ever owned. I'm extremely satisfied and impressed with casios design.

So many reviewers seem to generalize this phone as just the ticket for construction workers. I'm sure that's true, and I would take nothing at all away from the men and women who work in that field. However, two groups of people that would definitely benefit from this phone are a) mechanics, and b) musicians. I am both, and I have to say that this thing holds up to anything I could possibly dish out.
My wife is coming from a series of 1st generation droids. She has had horrible luck with those. She has spent a bit of time playing with my G'One Commando, and has let me know that she WILL be stepping into one when her upgrade comes time.
In short, this is a phenomenal phone. well worth the money spent, and well worth any time you spend setting it up. Thank you Casio and Verizon!
