The bad: Unfortunately, the HP iPaq hw6515 doesn't have integrated Wi-Fi or Windows Mobile 5, and it suffers from sluggish performance occasionally.
The bottom line: The HP iPaq hw6515 offers great tools for the mobile professional, but its poky performance keeps it from achieving smart-phone greatness.

Boy does CNET get things wrong!
by bramsey1973 on December 6, 2005
Pros: Everything in a PDA/Phone that one could want
Cons: A little pricey
Summary: I sometimes wonder if CNET really takes a long hard look at what they rate.

I have had the HP6515a for about a month and it just keeps getting better and better.
I use the ActiveSync feature with Exchange Server and Outlook. It makes my email life so much easier.
GPS feature is wonderful as well. I use Microsoft Streets & Trips 2005.
I would highly recommend the HP6515a as a very capable PDA/Phone.1 out of 1 users found this user opinion helpful.

Great product, very happy with it, I would buy another!
by robhenry44 on February 4, 2010
Pros: There is a lot of really nice features built into this product. Once one learns the iPaq it is easy to use. I like the size of it and find it easy to handle. It fits in my shirt pocket quite nicely for quick storage or in a belt case.
Cons: I really don't have any.
Summary: This device does everything I need, I can send and receive e-mail's on it quite easy and browse the net.
Texing is a breeze.

Texing is a breeze.
I have a desktop pc and laptop but my laptop now stays at home, the iPaq it just to convent.
The phone works fine but there are times when this device turns off. I have service with AT&T. I don't know if the phone is resitting itself, this just happens on occasion some times if you move form one location to another, I don't know if it is AT&T or the device. I have been told by AT&T tech reps that with a standard cell phone that I should turn it off and back on form time to time so it can reset with the towers. Maby since the iPaq is a pc/computer it may be doing this on its own.
One may consider having another phone line if it is available with there plan. I have the family plan with 3 lines, myself and 2 other family members, so I don't have an extra line for myself. If one has an I-Phone they have to pay for an extra line, I wonder if it has the same issue as the iPaq.
I find the battery life to be very good, it is easy to find and buy batteries and accessory on line, and the cost is reasonable. One can find a lot of accessories for the iPaq 6516 I have been really supperised at this.
You can go to the HP site and download the user manual and another ( parts etc.) manual for the iPaq.
This is my first device of this type to own. I like it so much that I intend to stay with the iPaq. A lot of people ask me if it is a Black Berry. I like the Windows OS that the iPaq uses, I am familiar with it from using pc's.
I think HP did a great job with there mobile messenger.

Great phone, but lacks wifi and keyboard is useless
by SheilaCarpena on September 29, 2007
Pros: Big screen, Love the display, Came with TomTom, Pretty thin for all it has
Cons: no wifi , and the keyboard is a waist of space, I'd rather the screen bigger.
Summary: Overall It's a great phone/PDA/poket pc. I just bought mine last week, but I'm already looking into buying a newer model. I really would like wifi. ...
Summary: Overall It's a great phone/PDA/poket pc. I just bought mine last week, but I'm already looking into buying a newer model. I really would like wifi. I wish it had it. The keys are way too small to use, so I just use the on screen keyboard. I wish they didn't put a qweary board and just made a larger screen.

Summary: I own one of this from around 5-6months, not to o much complaint about this phone, previously I had a SE W810 & a Ipaq2210, was a hard to me move from one place to another, always need to check if I had this 2 gadgets with me, so I found the chance to change my W810 with this baby & give my Ipaq to my sister, this baby runs WM 2003 phone edition, good performance, used for make & receive calls, mp3 & video player, camera (occasionally), its big & a lil bit heavy, but not a big issue, i used a belt clip, for me its a complete gadget, only issue is the lack of wifi, for that go to hw6900, sometimes having problem with software compatibility 'cause this have a square screen 240x240, also have GPS but I dont use it.

Great PPC Phone...When you find one that works
by Shephild63 on February 17, 2007
Pros: Great Navteq GPS software for it. Great Storage Capacity
Cons: Extremely Unreliable. Speaker quits working. Headphone jack quits working. Etc.

Summary: I've had this phone since July of '06 — well not this exact same phone. I'm now on my third warranty exchange. I pulled it out of the box and it won't even power on! Do the people who refurbish these things even check to see if it works before shipping them out?!?!
Cingular I must say has been great about exchanging this phone during the one year waranty period. The first phone worked great for a while; but about 2 months later the loud speaker on the back quit working. The second phone worked great until month 5 the headset connection quit working. This week I get a replacement and immediately find that the GPS receiver doesn't work. Cingular does overnight a fourth hp hw6515a — to bad it DOESN'T EVEN POWER ON!!
Should I dare try for hp hw6515a number 5?Updated
I've invested alot of money in software for this crap phone; so I went for my 4th exchange. Yep, something's wrong with hp hw6515 number 5 — this one, the Bluetooth High quality audio profile won't work.
Should I just give up now? Boy oh Boy!
I do think Cingular is just sending me phones that have been returned and supposedly repaired; but they fail to do complete tests before sending them out to other poor suckers like me. -
great machine
by stmcki-20621838053082322012491 on December 10, 2006
Pros: compact & full of features
Cons: plastic, no side grips, slippery keyboard buttons
Summary: Bought one used from ebay after using the h6315 for over a year.

Great machine. I didn't use wifi much on my h6315 so I don't miss it here. Tmobile's edge isn't too slow.
The good:
no external antenna
2 card slots. I use one card to load all my programs onto (frees up system memory to run the programs) and one card slot for storage and music.
Can check multiple email accounts
can work in Excel, Word, Microsoft Money, Outlook
Phone is good quality, none dropped yet.
I've used Pocket Streets for years, now with GPS it's taken to another level
Can access AOL AIM from anywhere
MP3 player
Works with MS Reader, so I can download books for my travels.
Battery life seems pretty good. I sync with outlook and money each night anyway, so I charge pretty frequently anyway.
Nice to have an attached keyboard (I'm not a "crackberry" user, so I'm new to the party).
the little joystick is great. I've always been irritated with the poorly designed directional button on the h6315.
The little flash light for the camera is a nice touch. pictures are pretty good for a cell phone.
The bad:
I miss the side grips on the H6315 (and my old Jornada 520 for that matter). I also wish it was made of something sturdier like my old Jornada from years past (I think that was magnesium or something metallic).
The keys are pretty slippery. HP could have at least made the keys flat, that would've helped a little.
A couple programs I tried to transfer over to this don't get the screen adjusted, so the bottom is cut off. Zio golf is one, making the game useless to me. But these appear to affect older software, so maybe it's time to upgrade.
All in all great machine. And I throw it in my back pocket everywhere I go. since it's over a year old now, the price is right.Updated
Got tired of the poor speaker quality when using phone. Had to constantly put on speaker phone setting just to hear conversations. Bought a Jawbone, now I can hear calls. -

Great phone...would be perfect with standard sized screen
by Harvickfan29 on November 28, 2006

Summary: I have the Cingular phone model. If this phone had a standard PDA screen (not square), this would be just about perfect. The square display is great for normal use, but it's not compatible with many games and programs (it cuts off the controls that should be at the bottom of the display.
While I'd like to have the ability to flash upgrade to WM5 or something newer when it comes out, I know that many handhelds (at least Dell and HP) don't support this anyways.
Other than these 2 things, I love this phone!!! It has the best signal range of any Cingular phone I've tried. The battery has a long life (the standby function is helpful too when you have to go a few days without recharging). It doesn't last nearly as long with the bluetooth on, but I'm guessing that's normal.
The GPS function is great if you use it with Streets and Trips.
The camera is so so, but whadda expect with a 1.5MP phone camera?!
I like the keyboard, but when typing numbers and special characters, I find it a pain sometimes. If you have a lot of numbers/special characters, you may want to consider either using the on-screen keyboard, or buying a portable bluetooth PDA keyboard. For normal texting though, I've not had any problems since I don't type numbers a lot.
This phone is awesome with the SD/MiniSD slots. True it doesn't have WiFi, but you can buy a WiFi SD card for not too much.
All things considered...if you need a multifunction phone, PDA, GPS and other cool toys (I do), and you can afford it, this is a great phone. While you can find it cheaper on EBAY and other places, for an expensive peice of equipment, it's far better to buy from HP and get the accidental damage protection! -
