The good: The HP Veer 4G has a cute, compact design. WebOS continues to shine in areas such as multitasking and universal search.
The bad: The Veer 4G's tiny screen makes even the simplest tasks difficult. The smartphone uses a proprietary connector and requires a separate adapter if you want to use headphones. AT&T's "4G" data speeds are slow.
The bottom line: The HP Veer 4G looks cute and packs in a good amount of features for the price and size, but ultimately the smartphone's compact design hinders usability and limits its appeal.

Great for target users, esp. w/Bluetooth and Touchstone

It may not be the main device for everyone (especially businesspeople), but for people who prefer smaller phones, or as a secondary device for when you don't want or need your full-sized smartphone, it has real potential. {Jonathan, aka @webOSquire on Twitter}

Small powerhouse of a phone with a great OS!
by NNNewman on May 12, 2011
Pros: Fantastic size, solidly built with a strong sliding mechanism, running webOS (great), fast response, synergy between all your mail/calendar/contact accounts, Exchange support, surprisingly good battery life, clear crisp display
Cons: Not the device for those wishing to do heavy web surfing with the smaller screen.

Summary: Hey Bonnie... you were complaining about the headphone jack, but yet you kept putting it on the device UPSIDE-DOWN. And BTW.. the Veer (and all webOS 2.xx + devices) has voice dial. So frustrating watching you do reviews and bobble your way through, but still want to be a 'reliable source' for reviews.
The Veer (like any phone) isn't for everyone, but does indeed work well as a personal AND business device. It's a fun little device that packs a lot of power. But seriously... if you want an accurate review.. don't rely on Bonnie. (sorry)6 out of 9 users found this user opinion helpful.

Perfect mini powerful smartphone for regular consumers.
by cnetpre on May 11, 2011
Pros: webOS multitasking OS, 800 MHz processor, Flash support, good apps, ultra compact, wireless charging, WiFi Hotspot capability, fair price tag, ideal upgrade for Pixi owners.
Cons: Headphones attachment and proprietary charger attachment.
Summary: I love it, but it's not for me. I'd benefit more as a business/power user on the Pre 3.

Great Little Phone
by gfyspecialty on May 15, 2011
Pros: Size and form factor. This will even fit in the coin pocket in my jeans. Once I got my mobileme contacts synched with my new Veer it was a slam dunk. I use the Veer as my everyday phone and my iPhone has been reduced to a iPod Touch. Phone has Palm's supe
Cons: Sometime when I do pull it out of my pocked it'll expand and answer the call. I'm sure Preware will have a patch to fix this. I have good vision so I can't wait for the 4x4 icons for the launcher pad comes out on Preware.
Summary: Most of it stated above. It hasn't been too long to review but right now this is working out pretty sweet.

Summary: PLEASE TURN THIS PHONE INTO A MESSAGING PHONE not a smartphone! if you did I would buy it. I have no intention of buying a phone this small if I'm going to go on the internet with it, but all I want to do is talk & text without going mad clicking # buttons 3 times. & I want a small phone that doesn't feel like junk or have a display that sucks. This phone would be exactly what I wanted if only it wasn't a smartphone.

Great if you want a small smartphone
by jordanveer on July 27, 2011
Pros: Small: Fits in any pocket.
Capable: Does everything a smartphone should. With WebOS, syncs contacts, calendar, and multiple e-mail accounts.
Price: Only $50 from HP's online store with free touchstone and car charger.
Speed: The processor is not overburdCons: Battery:The downside to small is not enough room for a big battery. The battery is at about 50% at the end of the day. I am getting a second touchstone for work.
AT&T network: Not really HP's fault, but 3G signal and speeds in my area are terrible.Summary: This is a great smartphone for those who don't need a big screen. For phone, texting, e-mail, and as a PDA, it is very good. Occasional web browsing is ...
Summary: This is a great smartphone for those who don't need a big screen. For phone, texting, e-mail, and as a PDA, it is very good. Occasional web browsing is fine. Although small, the screen is crisp and bright. Mobile sites, forums (using the forum app), and news articles all display fine. Full web pages...not so great.
The three biggest complaints about this phone really aren't issues for me. The proprietary charger and headphone jack don't bother me. I have never used headphones with my phone. If I do listen to music, it is with the speaker and the speaker on the Veer is very good for a phone. Much better than my old iPhone. Despite the complaints, I like the keyboard. I can type faster and with fewer mistakes with the Veer keyboard than with an iPhone virtual keyboard. I have fat fingers, which don't work well with virtual keyboards. The physical keyboard lets me type with my thumbnails. -
Unlike Trix, Veer may not be for kids.

Pros: Small: This phone is very small and fits in the smallest pocket without the problem of it jabbing into you when you sit down.
Quality: It feels solid and there isn't much play at all in the slider mechanism. It doesn't feel like it will fall apart in 6Cons: Battery: I was worried about the battery life on a phone this small and I was right. With modest web browsing, e-mail, texting and ~2 hours of phone use a day, the battery is at about 40% by evening.
App stability: App of the apps tend to lock up occasSummary: Small is really what this phone is all about. It is not a laptop replacement. It is a phone. This in many ways is the anti-iPhone. It is a phone ...
Summary: Small is really what this phone is all about. It is not a laptop replacement. It is a phone. This in many ways is the anti-iPhone. It is a phone for phone calls, e-mail, light texting, and keeping your appointments. It fits in any pocket and does its job well. It is not a listen to music on headphones while checking your Facebook status 50 times a day phone.
For such a small phone, it really does do everything a smartphone should do. The downside to small is battery life and screen size. Luckily, I don't really need long battery life (although I wouldn't complain) and I prefer to read things on a much larger screen. The most talked about problems with this phone is the magnetic connector and the lack of a headphone jack, which seem kind of silly to me. I guess those could be a problem, but I haven't had 2 phones with the same charging connector yet and I don't know anyone over 22 who uses the headphone jack on their phone.
Although not mentioned often, there are several avenues for getting apps on WebOS and there is a lot of good stuff out there. I may go out on a limb and say that it is easier to customize than Android. This is mainly from my comparison to a Linux enthusiast co-worker who bought an Android phone at the same time.
If you want a smartphone to use as a phone and for work apps (texts, e-mail, scheduling) this may be the phone for you. If you want a mobile multimedia entertainment center, it isn't. -
A surprisingly different little device
by Brian_M_SFO on June 10, 2011
Pros: Small and compact
Very fast processing speed
Very fast internet speed
Clear call quality
Good signal strength
Outstanding keyboard (even for large hands like mine)Cons: Fewer apps than Android and iOS (though all the essentials are there)

And use it, I did.
And grew to love it in just a couple of days.
This device is a killer smartphone in a small package. But despite its small size, it is quite usable. It's refreshing to have a full webOS experience (which is excellent in and of itself) in a phone that isn't the size of a skinny brick. You take the phone out, send your e-mail/tweet/web browse and then put it back in your pocket.
Battery life has been outstanding -- easily the best of any webOS phone I've owned. The keyboard is an engineering marvel, with just enough bulginess and clickiness for my thumbs to use (and I have large hands). I am faster typing on the Veer than I am on the onscreen keyboards popular in Apple land and Android land.
This phone does everything that even an advanced user needs, but without massive size. It is also built to integrate with the HP TouchPad shipping shortly in July -- I plan to check out the TouchPad and see if Veer is a good companion for it.
But even without TouchPad, Veer is a great standalone device. Is it for everyone? No -- but neither is any other device. Most people who knock it haven't actually used it. I have. It rocks.
