Summary: I have had my HTC Droid Incredible 2 for almost 4 months now and I really love it! This is my first experience with an HTC phone. I had always used Motorola (nonsmartphones), Nokia (smartphone and non), and Samsung (smartphone) before this. After my last phone, a Samsung, I thought I would always stick with Samsung because I liked it so much. However, I moved to a small town and to go with Verizon I had to buy my phone at Walmart and there just weren't many smartphones available to choose from. If I hadn't needed a phone right away I would have bought from Amazon or Wirefly instead. I was debating between this HTC or a Motorola. I wanted the iPhone but it wasn't available at the time. It finally came down to this HTC or another HTC and the Incredible 2 was a bit cheaper. Overall I have been pretty happy with it. It was easy to figure out how to use and it is pretty fast!
I use my phone mostly for texting, calls, internet, calendar, and a few apps such as Gmail, Kindle if I don't have my Tab with me, Paypal, Facebook, TweetDeck, Xtreme Alarm Clock, and a French-English dictionary. I play games on rare occasions and I let my son play Toddler Lock on it. My son has also thrown the phone several times and I've dropped it on concrete a couple of times and it has held up well. I'm able to find all the apps I want on the Android market and Amazon Appstore. There are a couple of apps I'd love to have that are only available for iPhone but not very many. One thing I love is the calendar that comes on the phone can be linked to your Google calendar. Anything I add to my calendar on the computer is synced with the calendar on my phone. It is also easy to add things to different Google calendars from your phone. For instance, I have a personal Google account and my blog Google account. I can add things to either calendar easily and get reminders for both!
I also like the Google Voice feature where you can speak into your phone to do a Google search. This comes in handy when your hands are tied up with something or if you don't want to type in your search query. That is another thing - this phone only has an onscreen keyboard. I was spoiled with my Samsung phone I had which had a slide out keyboard. I really don't like onscreen keyboards but I have gotten used to it. The buttons are big enough if you turn your phone horizontally, and I've gotten to where I can type in it pretty easily even without turning my phone if I want to see more of the rest of the screen while typing. It also has autocorrect which can be a good thing and a bad thing. Many times it tries to autocorrect things when it doesn't recognize the word and my texts wind up being nonsense. I'm learning to pay more attention to what it pops up while I am typing though so I can save words it doesn't recognize. I wish it would let me save contractions as a word such as "y'all" so when I type "yall" or when I put my son's name with an "'s" - "Davey's" - it would automatically put the apostrophe in. It is annoying to have to switch to the numbers page to put in the apostrophe when it seems to me it should be able to save those words.
As for the battery life, overall I am pretty happy with it. As I said I rarely play games and do things that would suck up the battery. I charge it every night when I go to bed and it lasts all day. I even leave it on WiFi most the time and it still lasts all day. Occasionally it will be down to the yellow color on the battery bar saying it is nearly dead but I rarely have it run down so much that it beeps at me.
Also WiFi is a cinch to use. It is easy to find and connect to networks. I live in an apartment on campus so I have it almost always connected to either my home network in my apartment or the campus network. It switches automatically to the campus network when I leave my apartment and switches back when I get home. If I go elsewhere it switches to 3G and then automatically switches back to WiFi when I get home or back on campus. Also the fact that it doesn't have 4G is not a problem for me because we don't even have 4G available here yet. My last phone was a 4G phone and when I got it and went home I quickly found out 4G wasn't available where I lived and that was even right outside of Memphis, TN, a big city! I live in a small town now with no big cities nearby so I am sure it is not available here!
If you're looking for a good smartphone I highly recommend the HTC Droid Incredible 2, and I suggest you have to check for best deal before you buy it at: Flixya.com/blog/3912218/HTC-DROID-INCREDIBLE-2

Not cutting edge, but solid smartphone build.
by cobracommand0 on May 3, 2011
Pros: Battery life: 5 of 5. I charge my electronics every night anyway, but the Dinc2 has been lasting all day even with heavy music/video/web use.
UI: 5 of 5. Customization is fantastic, snappy response times.
Camera: 5 of 5. Replaced old P&S camera.Cons: Price tag is a little high, since the phone lacks 4G.
Native music app is bass heavy (not in a good way), but fixed by using PowerAMP app.
Movies do not rotate during playback. (see summary for issue).
Screen washes out in bright sunlight.Summary: This phone does exactly what I expected it to do; I wasn't looking for a cutting edge phone, but for a solid smartphone with Google integration, a snappy processor, ...
Summary: This phone does exactly what I expected it to do; I wasn't looking for a cutting edge phone, but for a solid smartphone with Google integration, a snappy processor, and usable battery life. I also wanted a decent camera on board to replace my aging P&S camera that was on its last legs. I also needed a GSM phone since I'm probably getting deployed in the next few months to Europe. My final requirement was to have a decent music player since I didn't want to carry a phone and an iPod touch.
I love how customizable the Dinc2 interface is. The phone comes with a very cluttered interface, with lots of widgets and other battery draining clutter mucking up the UI. These are very easily removable/replaceable by the user to make for a very clean and battery friendly UI.
I use Twitter/Google more than Facebook for news/social and so the Friendstream widget was useless for me, but I guess it could be appreciated by someone who uses social networking often. The Google integration was perfect, I was able to easily sync contacts, Gmail, Gdocs, and Gcal to the phone and add widgets where I needed them. Also, Skype and Google Talk have worked very well over 3G, but no video chat with Skype/Gtalk yet (even though Google did release video support for mobiles a few days ago).
Battery life has been better than expected. Running a large screen, 1ghz proc, and 3G data can definitely eat up a battery quickly. The Dinc2 battery has been lasting all day with moderate/heavy music, video, and web searches. I only dropped to 0.25 battery life on the first day, which was without a full charge from the store to begin with. I used ATK (Advanced Task Killer) for the first/second day because I was worried about battery life, but this hasn't been an issue in the long run. I do switch to wireless when I'm not on the go, and run the screen at the middle brightness level; but I still run Skype/Gtalk throughout the day with music/video and I am not experiencing any shortage of battery life.
The camera has done well, definitely better than the old P&S I was using. The front facing camera seems to be okay, but without video chat it seems kinda useless. The photos from the rear camera can get a little noisy in low light; but the dual LED flash works pretty well, but can over expose on occasion. I'm still playing around with the settings, but I'm pretty happy with the camera performance.
The main issues I have with the phone are twofold; the included music player is rubbish, and the video playback will not rotate (still trying to find a work around for this). The surround sound option on the included music app is decent, but it really just puts an emphasis on boosting an artificial sounding bass that muffles the mids and highs. This is easily fixed by using the PowerAMP app (I'm currently using the free trial). PowerAMP is the best fix I've found so far, the EQ is amazing and I am satisfied with music playback after this workaround.
The non-rotating video REALLY annoys me, and I'm trying to fix this ASAP. I have a case with a stand, which works great for watching movies, except that the mini-usb is located on the lower left hand side of the phone. So, it's impossible to use the stand and have the phone plugged in at the same time, because the screen will not rotate (and the usb sticks out of the bottom side of the phone). This really isn't a huge deal, but it is annoying nonetheless.
I'm really pleased with the phone, all of the features are exactly what I needed from a smartphone and it has replaced the other electronic devices that I needed it to. I would not recommend this phone to someone who wants a phone that "just works". The iPhone is definitely a better choice for someone who is looking to use the device right out of the box and who isn't interested in customizing little details and getting the most out of a phone. Not that a non-technical person would be unable to use this phone, but the Dinc2 is definitely better suited for techies in my opinion. As a linux user, I prefer to set up my own user experience with my electronic devices; which is why I went with this phone to begin with.
If you do your research and learn the benefits and limitations of the Dinc2, you can definitely appreciate this smartphone. I'm very pleased with the overall experience and would definitely recommend the Dinc2 over the 4g phones that are available, simply because of the reliability of the Incredible. The Dinc2 isn't cutting edge, but it's solid technology that works like it was designed to.9 out of 10 users found this user opinion helpful.

This isn't a mid-range phone
by ewbell77 on May 21, 2011
Pros: Feel in Hand
Hit the sweet spot in screen size
Boot Time (under 10 seconds)
Battery life (for an android)Cons: 4G (But you don't want it yet, trust me)

Summary: Why are people calling this a "mid-range" phone? It doesn't have a dual core processor? Oh, well lets go to the verizon store and get a dual core processor phone! Oh, they don't have any? Hmmmm. OK, well lets go to the verizon store and get a sleek 4G phone that isn't too bulky and has good battery life! Oh, they don't have any? Hmmmm. Wake up people, you want these cutting edge attributes but they are just not ready yet. Why do you think they delayed the dual core, 4G Bionic? We as consumers want giant screens, dual core processors, 4G speeds, and then we want to complain when the battery dies in 3 hours. What did you expect? Battery tech has fallen WAY behind everything else, and it needs to catch up or we will be tied to a charger at home, at work, and in the car with the new wave of devices coming out 3rd/4th quarter 2011.
Cons: No dual core processor is what I meant to say, my blunder.
I used the Samsung Charge for two days and the Incredible 2 for two days as well. When the dust settled, I chose the Incredible, and it was an easy decision. I like charging my phone at night, and using it all day without fear. I won't get another 4G phone until the 2nd gen chipsets come out, because every 1st gen will be thick, bulky, 4.3" screen, and suck the juice. It just isn't ready yet. I may go dual core when they come out with one that isn't a retread of last years model (see 3GS, iPhone) like the Droid x2.

Lightweight, fast and great display
by jlynn026 on May 9, 2011
Pros: Lightweight (compared to an Evo or Moto Droid)
Fast
Display is very clear
Battery life seems pretty good
Great cameras!Cons: Lots of preinstalled apps that I'll never use
No 4g (which I personally don't care about)
Screen washes out more than use to in sun (had a moto droid before)
No gingerbread (again, I don't care, but someone else might)Summary: Coming from a Motorola Droid this has been a pretty big adjustment for me. There are a few things about the HTC design, etc. that I do not like at ...
Summary: Coming from a Motorola Droid this has been a pretty big adjustment for me. There are a few things about the HTC design, etc. that I do not like at all as compared to Motorola... the notification light... I miss the colors from the Droid, I miss having a separate charging light from notification light. I HATE how HTC organizes contacts compared to Motorola, it's a disaster...will be searching for a contact organizer very soon.
Two more things I consider cons about this phone...
This phone is so much lighter than the motorola droid, which isn't hard to do because it's a brick. It's very thin as well, much thinner as well, which has been an adjustment.
The cameras are both great quality! Have taken a lot of great pictures and videos already.
Overall, very pleased with the Incredible 2... just need to decide if those little motorola/htc differences are enough to move me back to a Motorola... if the Bionic comes out soon... my incredible could be traded in.
Updated on May 12, 2011
1. volume buttons are on the left side
2. HATE where the charging port is. Bottom left side and if you're trying to type while it's plugged in, you're pretty much forced to do it landscape instead of portrait
Updated on May 12, 2011In terms of the contact differences, it's really hard to explain, I would recommend going to a store and looking at an HTC so you can see. Just not as smooth or integrated as well as a Motorola, you have to link contacts manually sometimes... and I just don't like the layout of them either. I ended up with two facebook links for contacts, one links you to the contact information and the other to their actual profile. Still hunting for a replacement app
Updated on Jun 6, 2011Been using my dinc2 for just about a month now and I'm very pleased with it... the things that bothered me, volume buttons, charging port, I still don't love but I've gotten use to those and overall really love my phone. Definitely would recommend it!3 out of 4 users found this user opinion helpful.

Top notch 3g smartphone.
by Jnadas on May 1, 2011
Pros: Fast. Adequate battery life. Fast and responsive touch screen. Well equipped all around. I find myself extremely happy with VZW 3g data speeds. The handset is very light and sexy in your hands.
Cons: I really like the phone. However, if you want dual core processor or 4g, you are not likely to be satisfied. My only gripe is that the phone did not ship with gingerbread. I expect that will come soon enough.

Phone only lasts 6 months. Do not buy!

Pros: Good Smartphone if lasted more that 6 months
Cons: After 6 months buttons at bottom (home, etc) quit working. Verizon replaced the phone. 6 months later the same thing happened. Neither VZ nor HTC will replace the phone again as it is beyond warranty.

Summary: I'm 13 and I have had my phone for about two and a half weeks. I really love this phone but there are certain things that i do not like.
I really love the bright and clear graphics. The thing I hate most is that the phone never vibrates for texts. I am always texting and I never know I got a text unless the volume is up or I seen the notification light blink.
The battery life is really my favorite thing. With my old phone, I didn't have games or really much to do on it, so this is a step up. I am always playing games, getting on the internet, or texting and the battery life always holds up for at least 2 days. So for people who don't use the apps too much or are not on it for an extended period of time I would suggest it.
Another thing I'm not too happy about is that you don't use the android market but Google. I do love the Google store because you can get a few Apple apps. I was just hoping for the Android market.
Overall I would really suggest this phone for really anyone. It doesn't take too long to figure out and is just a really great phone.1 out of 1 users found this user opinion helpful.
