The good: The HTC One flaunts a stunning metal design, powerful quad-core processor, and a beautiful 4.7-inch 1080p screen. It runs Android Jelly Bean, takes great pictures, and has a feature-packed camera app.
The bad: Sealed case design means no SD expansion slot or user replaceable battery. The BlinkFeed software can’t be completely removed. The phone isn’t available on Verizon.
The bottom line: A few quibbles notwithstanding, the powerhouse HTC One is a beautifully crafted, near-ideal smartphone.

What an elegant design for a phone

Summary: First of all, I always like it when people come up with an innovative design for new device, instead of just packing on more power or more pixels. I mean, what's the point of having a powerful brick that's doing things the old way? The One is truly amazing. Kudos for the ingenious camera. I remember someone said that it doesn't produce as many pixels as the others. But I was certainly pleasantly surprised on how clear the pictures are from this camera. My friend, who was an architect, took a picture in a very low light environment, and the picture turned out to be very clear. It also comes with a lot of cool tools to edit the pictures.
The One is very fast and powerful, I never got the dragging feeling nor needed to wait on something like my old Samsung Captivate (prob not a just comparison, but that's what I had)
The call quality is very clear. Downloading and streaming is very fast. I have AT&T. I also watched some HD video, I was pleasantly surprised.
It seems to be pretty durable. I have had this for a few weeks already (since 4/19), and dropped it a few times, not even a scratch yet. It is sleek and very elegant looking. Very thin. I am reluctant to buy a case to cover its beauty.
I really enjoy the phone so far (since 4/19), and love it. The cons I have above are not really that bad, that's why I gave this phone a 5-star rating.5 out of 5 users found this user opinion helpful.

Better than the reviews indicate!
by lfreed on April 21, 2013
Pros: Fabulous screen, beautiful build, built-in speakers you can actually hear.
Cons: No removable battery, no SD card slot. Battery life (so far) has been very good. HTC Sync manager doesn't seem to work very well, but good old drag-and-drop file operations work fine.

Summary: I had a Galaxy S2 Skyrocket before this, and several iPhones before that. This is better than any of them. The industrial design is gorgeous, and it is a pleasure to purchase a tech item that wasn't made in Mainland China.
The included earbuds (Beats Audio brand) are surprisingly good. The phone is very slim, so finding a case that doesn't bulk it up is a challenge. Bluetooth paired with both of my cars with no issues.4 out of 4 users found this user opinion helpful.

The phone to get for 2013
by chrishd3z on April 23, 2013
Pros: Excellent Build Quality. Phone screams premium
Outstanding sound system via its Beats BoomSound.
Ultra Pixel camera performs better than expected, especially in low light situation.
Great photo editing software.Cons: Phone lacks micro-sd card slot for backup purposes.
HTC blink news feed selection is limited and would be great if I can add my own source.
Capacity buttons dont always respond to the touch.Summary: This phone is by far the best smartphone I have had in a while. It's been a while since I have bought a phone and felt that it was ...
Summary: This phone is by far the best smartphone I have had in a while. It's been a while since I have bought a phone and felt that it was the "One" to keep. First off the build quality exceeds any other smartphone in the market and puts it in the same grounds as the iPhone 5.
Although I fell in love with the HTC ONE, I find myself having to update my original review and say that the Galaxy S4 is the way to go.
One of the features HTC is heavily promoting is the built in front speakers. Beats audio boomsound is not a gimmick like plenty of the Samsungs "enhanced" features. The sound that itis able to produce is increidible. Not only is the sound volume loud but it also sounds clear at any volume range.
Remote control features is easy to set up and pretty intuitive. It's one of those features that I believed I wouldn't be using but given that it works so well; I no longer find myself reaching for my standard remote(s) and use my phone instead.
Last but not least I have to mention the camera. Yes it is 4mp, and yes that hampers my ability to crop photos to my liking but in the little time that I have had the phone I have noticed that cropping to get the best shoot is no longer needed given the quality of photos this phone produces. Low light performance is a blessing and has helped during my "night out" photos with friends at the local bar. Not only are photos better but HTC also included amazing photo editing/enhancing software within the app and they just work. Camera is smart enough to recognize faces, smiles, eyes, etc and enhance them as you see fit. It's just excellent in the camera department. I have yet to use "Zoe" but I know that it will just leave me even happier about my purchase.
The only negative I may have for the phone is the lack of SD-Card slot. Don't get me wrong, I bought the 64gb version of HTC One, and 64gb exceeds my needs on storage. My issue is on "backup". Android fails to have (atleast in my knowledge) a good medium for backing up files via PC. Yes there is "double twist" and some other popular sync software but they fail to save an application's saved data the way iTunes does for the iPhone. If anyone knows of a better method to backup that doesn't require an SD card please let know. Moving on...
Overall I believe the HTC one is the smartphone to get. Everything from build quality to unique features makes it, in my opinion, the right device for me.
Updated on Apr 28, 2013
The HTC One is a great phone but after physically seeing the S4 and playing with it I had no choice but to double think my decision and return it for an S4. The Galaxy S4 has everything the One has to offer and then some. I believe its much more stable, intuitive and packs in more features overall.
My main caveat with the One was the lack of a physical menu button. The extra screen space lost due to the black menu bar popping up on some aplications is an annoyance. Also some applications fail to register the back button on the HTC One. Yes HTC excelled in the build quality. Yes HTC Boomsound is amazing but the smartphone Android interface still misses on the mark.
I still believe that you cant go wrong with either devices but Samsung is just better at giving you everything you want and didnt know you wanted in your smartphone.4 out of 5 users found this user opinion helpful.

Best usability, design, screen of any phone to-date.
by danmetzner on April 28, 2013
Pros: The front facing speaker system is the best sounding. Button controls and earphone jack placement is just where they should be. The screen resolution is ahead of the competition, bright in sunlight and easy to read, beautiful color rendition.
Cons: None, the ability to change a battery has never been an issue for me in over 15 years and obviously not an issue with millions of Apple users. As for storage 32MB is more that I will ever use, if I did need more I would save off some pics to my PC

I have had two Samsung Galaxy phones, the S2 an S3. I returned my S3 for a iPhone 5 as the Galaxy did not have a good user design whereas this is where Apple excels. It's not necessarily everything that a phone has that makes it a great phone, because most users will never use all the features available. For me, the basics, the features I use everyday and how the phone fits and feels in my hand is paramount.
The HTC One is now the best. The hotspot feature works better and faster than the iPhone 5 and Galaxy.
Pictures are another thing that need to be practical. I don't need mega pixel pictures! If I wanted that I would buy a Nikon or something like it. The HTC camera is fast, captures low light shots better than anyone, and has seamless sharing capabilities. I can send many more 920KB pictures than I can 14 - 21 MB pictures!
Best all around phone in the market.3 out of 4 users found this user opinion helpful.

Greatest Phone Ever Made!!!
by BrikkzUHV on May 9, 2013
Pros: The design is flawless the aluminum shell has a incredible look feel.
I've experienced zero lag.
Sense 5 is polished down from Sense 4+ to a more sleek UI.
The Ultrapixel camera with HTC Zoe is great especially in low light.
Boomsound
IR BlasterCons: Blinkfeed isn't that bad, yet it's not that great either and your stuck with it.

Summary: I've had my HTC One from week one of it's launch, and I can't say I've found anything to complain about. My friends all want to know what phone I'm using, as soon as they get their hands on it it's a fight to get it back from them. The UI is smooth there's absolutely no lag whatsoever. The IR blaster is neat too I'm pretty sure Buffalo Wild Winggs was mad I was changing all the channels though. The Boomsound system isn't the loudest my friends S3 got louder but his music was highly distorted, but mine was loud, vcrisp and full of bass thanks to the Beats audio. All in all this is by far my favorite phone ever.

The One is a good device. Don't buy it for the looks.
by rhonindk on May 5, 2013
Pros: Pros:
Speakers - sound is awesome.
Display - while not as "wow" as the GS4, the color and clarity is better
Speed - as close to lagless as I have seen
Feel - Ergonomically great
Good stock keyboard
Camera - great low light ability.Cons: Too many stock functions removed
Blink Feed - dull and frequently out of date.
Button placement
Missing stock controls in notification bar
Stock icons dated
Home button on bottom left - should have kept the 3 button stock versionSummary: Summary: The HTC One is a great device. Don't buy it for the looks only. For a seasoned HTC or Android user setup, adjustment and use will not be ...
Summary: Summary: The HTC One is a great device. Don't buy it for the looks only. For a seasoned HTC or Android user setup, adjustment and use will not be an issue. For all others, LG, Nexus, Samsung are far easier to use right out of the box. Unless you are set on this device, for the general user I recommend Nexus or Samsung. The HTC One is not your standard smartphone and will require more than normal setup. Yes, there is a learning curve with this device.
Purchased the ATT 64gb model (Silver) and have been using it for a week plus. The device looks and feel awesome. Until you use it. Keep in mind I am coming from an Olympus G and an iPhone 5. I am also very familiar with the Samsung GS3 and the Nexus 4. I bought the 64gb model as it does not allow the use of an mSD card. I feel this is a miss but can understand why.
The One feels good in your hand. Comfortable nice weight and texture. It looks awesome. When I turned it on I became aware of the buttons. I am ambidextrous and use my phone in my left hand. makes the Power button on top a bit difficult. Then there is the Vol Up/Down swith on the right side. It is way too sensitive. A light touch easily scales the volume up or down frequently resulting in my putting the device into silence mode unintentionally ... oops!
The display is flat out awesome. I have yet to see another device that can surpass it. It is that good. Add to this the stereo speakers (better sound than my notebook) and very decent headphone sound (better than my iPhone). I use a set of Sure headphone for daily use.
I have never been a fan of Sense. HTC takes out too much of the stock Android controls and does little to replace them with custom fucntionality. Samsung and LG do a much better job. I prefer stock Android; just saying.
The sound is great (on ATT) and everyone I talked to said it sounded great. However, in speakerphone mode there are times the voice is not as clear as I expected. I have had no issue with signal, download or upload speeds. Works great!
The camera was a bit of a disappointment for outdoor shooting until I discovered low-light. WHOA! this single feature more than makes up for it. When I compared basic photos, my current phones all surpassed the One. In low light the One was the clear winner. Have tried Zoe but haven't seen a significant benefit yet. more play will be needed and has potential.
I have not found any apps from the Play store that won't run on the One that will on the SGS3, LG, or Nexus. The only issue are some games in landscape mode (example: Bards Tale) where to play the game your hands interfere with the speakers. There has been some software bugs (listed below)
Pros:
Speakers - sound is awesome. Bests any cell/tablet/notebook I have heard
Display - while not as "wow" as the GS3/4, the color and clarity is better
Speed - as close to lagless as I have seen in an Android device
Feel - Ergonomically great, feels eal good in hand
Good stock keyboard (very surprised). for accuracy it is close to the best I have used
Camera - great capabilities and really good low light ability. This more than offsets the pixel affect when you zoom into HDR photos
Cons:
No Battery Percent - user needs to add app and that is on the left, not right
Far too many stock Android functions removed
Blink Feed - dull and frequently out of date. Flipboard is much better
Location in Blinkfeed is incorrect - very general, not precise
Battery in status bar is frequently incorrect - of as much as 24%
Use it left handed - way too easy to drop sound to silent
Missing stock controls in notification bar (wifi / airplane / gps / etc)
Missing multi panel wallpaper function
Stock icons (including folders) dated - circa Android 1.x
Home button on bottom left - should have kept the 3 button stock version
No ability to adjust home/back button light setting
Missing multipanel wallpaper
Other Concerns:
LG-E970 / SGS3 /Nexus 4 much easier to use right out of the gate
No mSD card ability
Bugs:
- Infrequent crash of stock browser when opening (loading stock Google page)
- In Gallery when you select "Set As" for a downloaded photo the screen locks and just sits there
- Lock screen sticks and will not gesture unlock. Restart is frequently required, other times repeated attempts needed
- BlinkFeed displays incorrect location (I live in Playa Del Rey and BF displays Downtown Los Angeles)2 out of 2 users found this user opinion helpful.

-Two button design is counter intuitive. I keep thinking the HTC logo is a home button (sometimes not responsive)
-Hard Button Layout;Power button
-When volume is turned all the way up, phone calls can be tinny
-No HTC Email Widget (except gmail)
-Lock Screen;swipe up instead of just anywhere

A phone that's built to last forever doesn't have the guts to last forever. HTC needs to revamp their sense and abandon blink feed. They definitely have a great phone, one I chose over the S4 due to a simpler feature set, but the need to make those features much easier to use.2 out of 2 users found this user opinion helpful.
