HTC Ozone (Verizon Wireless) price range: $159.99
- Reviewed by: Kent German

The good: The HTC Ozone offers an e-mail and messaging-centric feature set that includes EV-Do Rev. A, Wi-Fi, GPS and support for overseas GSM networks. Call quality is quite respectable.
The bad: The HTC Ozone's controls and keypad don't have the best design. Also, it lacks HTC's Inner Circle feature, the volume level is low and GSM data support tops out at EDGE.
The bottom line: Though its plastic design and photo quality are unchanged, the HTC Ozone offers a more affordable price tag, improved features, and better voice quality than its Sprint HTC Snap counterpart.

Is it robust enough
by bns556 on January 4, 2010
Pros: Size and functionality are good. Windows makes set-up pretty easy. Screen size is great and resolution if very good. Other smart phones seem to compromise either the phone or data - Ozone does neither
Cons: OK here goes - the screen broke last weekend. It was cold out but it was in my pocket - The furry pocket in my coat! Get the insurance - the screen isn't as robust as some of the long term smart phone players (RIM)
Summary: Overall i like this phone - I may replace it with another Ozone but I'm researching first.

Not a bad phone

Cons: Choppy browser, slow response

Great Features, Cheap Look, Terrible Phone
by tadaengineer on September 4, 2009
Pros: CDMA / GSM / Wifi
WinMobile 6.1
Open GPS (can use 3rd party apps)
Decent camera (MUCH better than my old Razr)
Wifi/Voip phone capability with 3rd party softwareCons: Terrible phone - drops calls worse than 2 year old Razr this replaced
Needs more ring profiles (weakness of WM6.1)
Weather feature is nice but only for major cities.
Stuck with Verizon - poor network and horrible customer serviceSummary: The Ozone has a great feature set that prompted me to buy it before it even came out. I like a Windows Mobile handset as I am a developer and ...
Summary: The Ozone has a great feature set that prompted me to buy it before it even came out. I like a Windows Mobile handset as I am a developer and can write and install my own apps. The combo of CDMA, GSM, and Wifi were very appealing. Like the reviewer for Cnet, I was unable to test GSM. Wifi not only allows web and email from hotspots but with installation of VoIP software like Skype makes a great wifi phone. I wish it worked that well as a cell phone, however; the phone consistently drops calls from my office and home as well as on the road.
The appearance of the phone is another issue. As mentioned by other reviewers, it has a plastic, 'toy' appearance and feel compared to the Blackberry Curve and Bold, which the phone was apparently intended to compete with. It is durable, however, surviving more than one drop onto concrete or other hard surfaces without a problem.
Overall, for the features it is a nice phone; as a phone, it is not. If you are not typically in marginal coverage areas I would recommend this phone, but if you need a reliable phone that won't drop calls I would suggest to look elsewhere. -
Going back to my Blackberry Curve
by dvirant on September 3, 2009
Pros: I liked the lighter body style and windows mobile program. The look of the all black body was a plus as well.
Cons: Keyboard is hard to use, the phone is constantly locking up, the body is very cheap and tends to be slow.
Summary: I tried the phone for about 30 days and have had several problems. I am not sure what I was thinking when I bought it. I have had several different ...
Summary: I tried the phone for about 30 days and have had several problems. I am not sure what I was thinking when I bought it. I have had several different smartphones and know the ins and outs. This is a great phone for a person who is just starting out on a smartphone who does not want ot spend much money. But for my money, the Blackberry Curve was well worth the price.

A fantastic smartphone at a great price
by electragician on August 29, 2009
Pros: Great at multimedia (Get Kinoma Play folks, it rocks)
Great as an e-book reader with Mobipocket installed.
Good call quality.
Excellent battery life.
Total price was $19.95 when I renewed my two year contract online, with the online discount.Cons: Windows mobile can be a bit of a hassle to learn to use, but in a few hours you can be acclimated to it's way of doing things.
Along with that, I'd like to see more Windows Mobile applications out there, but that's hardly the phone's fault.Summary: A truly great deal... and a great smart phone at any price.

Keyboard is responsive. Screen is crisp and bright. Battery life thus far has been great (3+ days w/o charging on limited use - I've had the phone for 4 weeks).
Call quality has been superb and the speakerphone is loud enough for me to be on conference calls and hear everything just fine.
My only hesitation with the phone is the lack of a customizable home screen. Using the HTC theme (or any other theme) for your home screen will not allow you to change the order of the items or what items appear on the home screen. For me I like to be able to tweak the home screen as it allows for faster navigation.
Some prefer touch screens, I personally think it lets me browse the internet quicker. Just take notice this one does not have a touch screen. -
Hate. This. Phone.

Pros: Nice display, fast browsing.
Cons: Short battery life, mediocre coverage, cramped keyboard, large and clunky, direct push email only available for Outlook.

Summary: I activated this phone yesterday, and I'm returning it today. After charging the phone for a full 24 hours, as the manufacturer suggests, I had the phone on for 4 hours and the battery already went down a bar. Really difficult to get used to if you're not familiar with Microsoft mobile phones, not really intuitive. Navigation is a pain when you're used to a Blackberry trackball, and proves to be kind of slow and clunky. Also, the design of the phone in person is not that appealing.
I was most disappointed by the fact that direct push(immediate) email only available for Outlook, which I don't use. The quickest option for email is to set the phone to deliver email every five minutes, and I found that when I did, it only downloaded part of the email. If you want to read the rest, you had to wait another five minutes for it to reconnect. Horrible. I'm trading this phone in for a Blackberry Curve and am kicking myself for not just sticking with Blackberry to being with. -
FINALLY... A WinMo phone that doesnt lock up daily!!

Summary: NO MORE TOUCH SCREENS!!! This phone does just about anything the average business person would need and it does it without fancy screens and subsequent problems and lockups. You can not imagine how frustrated I was with the Touch Pro. Calling people back 2 and 3 times without even knowing it. Locking up once a day. Ahhhhh! What a relief this phone is!

don't pay 269.00 for a Tour...Ozone is better for less
by BKNorton on July 26, 2009
Pros: threaded texting
email so simple to set up
it has wi-fi on the off chance verizon service is not available
cant think of anything if like to have that isnt on the phone
you can download free web browsers if you arent digging IE
well worth priceCons: youll average a charge about every 24 hrs with alot of use through the day
i am very cell phone savy and i havent run across a glitch in 30 days of tryingSummary: it does it all without a glitch. threaded email and wifi make the ozone a no brainer over the tour. grab one before they wise up and raise the price.

Ok phone for the price
by AFboy22 on July 22, 2009
Pros: User friendly, has a lot of good features but it is no iphone. HTC has done a good job fixing some of the old HTC phone problems.
Cons: The phone freezes A LOT!!!! i have had it for 3 days now and have had to remove the battery and put the phone back together twice already (contemplating the idea of returning it).
Summary: It is an ok phone. If u buy it be patient with it...they say you get for what you pay for and at $50...it is just about right. ...
