HTC Ozone (Verizon Wireless) price range: $159.99
- Reviewed by: Kent German

The good: The HTC Ozone offers an e-mail and messaging-centric feature set that includes EV-Do Rev. A, Wi-Fi, GPS and support for overseas GSM networks. Call quality is quite respectable.
The bad: The HTC Ozone's controls and keypad don't have the best design. Also, it lacks HTC's Inner Circle feature, the volume level is low and GSM data support tops out at EDGE.
The bottom line: Though its plastic design and photo quality are unchanged, the HTC Ozone offers a more affordable price tag, improved features, and better voice quality than its Sprint HTC Snap counterpart.

Verizon WiFi Phone Without Breaking Bank - Ozone
by Rapid-Eye on July 27, 2009
Pros: WiFi - right now, only 5 phones on Verizon sport WiFi. This is the only one under $200. Win Mobile is fine, default aps are fine, call quality is actually very good, and if you can use a Crackberry keyboard, this one is easy too.
Cons: As is pointed out, camera is prettty cheezy. Thats fine, I've got lots of good cameras and don't need it on my phone. I wish it had a rollerball pointer instead of a rockerbox. It works, but the rollerball on my wife's Crackberry is easier.
Summary: For $50, you can't go wrong. Toss in a $25 8GB memory card and you've got a very capable multi network phone. WiFi support is bonus, especially for ...
Summary: For $50, you can't go wrong. Toss in a $25 8GB memory card and you've got a very capable multi network phone. WiFi support is bonus, especially for folks like me that live out in the country. Data coverage inside the house is spotty at best, but my 802.11G makes up for it.

Great phone, great price
by avboiler11 on July 15, 2009
Pros: Slim profile, light weight, sharp screen, easy functionality, good battery life thus far, works as well as a phone as it does a PDA (which can be rare in a "smartphone")
Cons: Would prefer an aluminum case as the plastic feels cheap and vulnerable to drops, cramped keyboard and small keys lead to typing errors, wish the upper-case key was located where the function key is placed

Summary: I got this phone because my XV6800 phone speaker went bad, and I couldn't wait for a warranty replacement phone. As a previous Motorola Q user I liked the look and size of the Ozone (especially to the brick that was the 6800), and the $50 price after rebate was very friendly. I purchased the phone without so much as picking it up in the store.
I've had the phone three days now, and thus far I'm very impressed. I much prefer its functionality of Widows Mobile to the XV6800 and don't really miss the 6800's touchscreen. The call quality is very good, and I've had no issues with call clarity or volume. It is great for emailing (my primary need) but the keyboard is cramped with small keys, so fat-fingering the wrong thing is easy to do; emailing and texting was the 6800's strongest suit.
The wifi of this phone works very well and connects to networks quite easily, but I've also had good luck and fast speeds with the regular data connection. Additionally, even with the phone receiving 100+ emails and a bit of web browsing via both data connection & wifi the battery was still showing 2 bars after an 18 hour day...which blows away my experiences with both the Q and the 6800.
Its still early, but so far I've been very pleased with this phone. The Ozone offers a lot of utility for a bottom-dollar price...but I hope the plastic case proves more durable than I'm afraid it may be.4 out of 4 users found this user opinion helpful.

Summary: I'll start out by saying my last two phones have been HTC windows mobile based-phones so I may have an unfair advantage in terms of configuration.....still, super-easy to use. Even has an mp3 trimming program to use only the sections you want for ringers. I just replaced my xv6800 which i loved except for the fact that it had a touchscreen and slide out keyboard (just me). This phone is better, faster and has more features, plus, no touchscreen and no flipping and sliding to use the keyboard. I had my contacts synched, corporate email and outlook caendar configured, bluetooth tethering with my laptop, gps and other stuff set up in less than 20 minutes. I highly recommend it even if youve never had a windows device....an unreal bargain at fifty bucks! As for a few comments about the case seeming cheap.....definitely not seeing it. Bummed about the lack of standard headphone jack but included in the box is a USB adapter for standard size headphones, something that was lacking in the xv6800. I like IE for most internet surfing, however Skyfire works excellent on this phone for sites like youtube, yahoomusic, etc., with flash functionality and it's free! Give this phone a fair chance and you won't be disappointed.

Summary: This is my first smart phone and it was so easy to set up and use. If you remember to close out your apps the phone won't lockup on you. I have had the phone for two weeks and had absolutly no problems. If you are intrested in being trendy or style concious only go with the Black Berry or I phone. if you want a work horse for business and personal use buy the Ozone you won't be disappointed. Good sound on calls, great reception. If you have a windows based computer you can run this phone. Mobil office apps work great.

Better phone and more features than any Verizon phone
by gothamcityguy on July 23, 2009
Pros: This phone blows away any data device i have ever owned in regards to battery life. Super easy to use and more features than phones Verizon has that cost $200.
Cons: So far I have not found any cons.

HATE THIS PHONE!!
by Hollins10 on October 3, 2010
Pros: It's attractive and easy to operate. I like how it separates text messages by each person because it makes it easier to find a specific text message if you know who sent it.
Cons: This thing freezes on me at least twice a day. Sometimes when someone calls it'll vibrate and say "incoming call" in the upper left corner, but it will not show me who is calling or let me answer. The internet is slow and can't always be accessed.
Summary: I can't wait to get this darn thing replaced. I am a grad student with a full schedule, so I don't have time to constantly take the battery ...

Should be so much more

Summary: I have two phones, a Nokia E63, and the Ozone. The E63 is the same price, and so much better. First, and most importantly, battery life. The E63 goes nearly a week between charges, the Ozone, only about a day and a half. They both have the same watt hour capacity battery, so you would think that the Ozone must be much faster, but with both running the same software (Opera Mobile 10) the E63 loads pages at a rate of about 3 to 1 over the Ozone, and that is on Wi-Fi to reduce the possibility of different data speeds since they are on different carriers. The keyboard is also not as good. I can't tell why for sure, since they look the same size, but I seems to mistype a lot more on the Ozone.
The built in applications are mediocre at best, with the aging version of I.E. being a shame for an OS (Wm 6.5) that was the newest, current version only a few months ago.
One more annoying thing, from time to time, the phone decides that hearing the callers on the other end is optional, and there is no sound. A power cycle fixes it, but should not be needed.
Overall, it works, mostly, but the applications, OS, battery life and keyboard make it a less than ideal choice. Get the Nokia if you want a free smart phone. You will be happy you did. -
Small phone that does the basics well
by Martywalker101 on November 30, 2010
Pros: Small size, GPS, Wi-fi, great price. I've had this phone for over a year. Not too many problems, occasional lock-up (maybe 7 times over the last year). I switched from an old Treo and have been happy with how well this phone functions.
Cons: The web browsing is slow on non-mobile websites (it struggles if the website has a lot of content). The keyboard is cramped. Not many apps for this operating system.
Summary: Overall, its a great phone for the money. Great if you don't do a lot of texting or apps, but just need a good phone for contacting to email ...
