HTC Wildfire - black (unlocked) price range: $119.99

The good: The HTC Wildfire features a compact and solid design. As the successor to the Tattoo, it offers an updated OS, a 5-megapixel camera, and good call quality.
The bad: Features a lower-resolution screen. The smartphone can be sluggish at times. Lacks support for North American 3G bands. Camera quality was rather subpar.
The bottom line: Designed for international markets, the HTC Wildfire is a compact, budget-friendly Android phone packed with features, but you can find similar devices in North America for less on contract and with added 3G support.

Good phone, but a few small problems
by mattburley1993 on August 7, 2010
Pros: Great value, fantastic interface, good choice of apps, upgrade to 2.2 in the future, beautiful design and build quality, 3G and WiFi are fast
Cons: Low screen resolution, camera sometimes takes poor photos in medium-low light conditions, can be slow, on screen keyboard isn't great
Summary: I can't afford a high end smartphone but this phone is perfect for me. I can connect my social networking when I'm out and about and also browse ...
Summary: I can't afford a high end smartphone but this phone is perfect for me. I can connect my social networking when I'm out and about and also browse the web. The apps are super useful and although not as refined as my iPod touch's apps, they're pretty good and work well.
The screen resolution makes for a mediocre on screen keyboard so if you have big hands this may not be for you. Also, the resolution means some apps wont play on the device.
If you're looking for a good value smartphone with some of the features of a high end one, this is for you. I've had mine a week now and I love it. I prefer it to the iPhone 3GS and it's half the price on a contract here in the UK!1 out of 1 users found this user opinion helpful.

Pretty much the worst phone I've ever had.
by Heterogeneity on December 15, 2012
Pros: All of the standard smartphone and android gimmicks.Pretty neat interface. Cool widgets
Honestly can't think of anything else...Cons: Awkward shape, slippery & difficult to hold. Freezes constantly. Insensitive screen. Messages take forever to display. Shows your own replies as new texts. Clumsy keyboard. Drops calls. Music player has a bad layout. Volume control is terrible.
Summary: I'm aware that it's an entry-level, but I've done a lot better for quite a bit cheaper on the smartphone side of things. I would honestly never ...
Summary: I'm aware that it's an entry-level, but I've done a lot better for quite a bit cheaper on the smartphone side of things. I would honestly never get another HTC phone after owning this one. I know HTC have some high quality phones, and in comparison this one is just a toddler... but really, if you're going to do something do it right.
Previous to this phone I owned a Sony Ericsson Xperia, which was a cheaper, but much better entry-level smart phone.
Very often I feel like throwing this phone out of the window, under a speeding car, etc. I'm just glad I'll be getting a new phone soon. -
A great phone for first entry into the smartphone world
Pros: Pretty much of what it offers as a smartphone, being the first one I afforded!
Cons: Battery life

A good smart phone given its price

Summary: Overall, the HTC Wildfire is a good phone, IT DOES HAVE 3G (to those delusional people who think it doesn't), IT DOES HAVE A CAPACITIVE TOUCH SCREEN (how do you think it can use pinch-to-zoom?), and it sports a lot of great features that would normally be found on an $800 phone for only $249 (with Telstra). The only things that set it apart from a $800 smart-phone (eg. HTC desire) are the screen size (320x240 opposed to 800x480), and its processing power (528MHz opposed to 1GHz).

Smartphone on a budget: fills a hole in the market
by musicmonkey2004 on November 4, 2010
Pros: This phone is available on a cheap contract and it allows you entry into the HTC sense UI of Android-both are hailed as the best of their class
It has enough features to be a definite smartphone & it organises your life as much as any smartphone canCons: I lacks a capacitance touchscreen
the processor is slow
it has the functionality of a top end phone without the raw power to cope: eg multitasking is as possible as with the nexus one, but really the phone will grind to a halt if you don't close appsSummary: If you want better then pay more, there's a world of great phones out there!

but if you want 500mins unlimited texts and internet for £20 this would be the only smartphone where it's available (I won't/can't tell you where that's available but the offer will have probably ended by the time you read this anyway!!).. but you get the point. what we need is cnet to prizefight this and the blackberry curve 9300 so we can have an objective voice tell us the truth!! (tho we all know cnet loves anything apple shaped cos of the prizefight where the nexus one beat the iphone and tang didn't seem too happy about it!) -
freezes a lot, apps crash, back remain off after a call
by Techy-Sam on November 1, 2010
Pros: the touch function is really smooth but when you try to use more than one app at a time it starts to freeze.
Cons: I use Dell blue tooth headset & works great but while disconnecting, the phone freezes.
after a call is finished, the proximity sensor doesn't turn on the LCD back light
In both the cases need to re-seat the battery.
other app have issues too.Summary: The touch function is really smooth and the Scene-UI looks awesome but when you try to use more than one app at a time it starts to freeze.

I use Dell blue tooth headset (Dell BH 200) which works great but while disconnecting it the phone freezes. Tapping the screen or trying to use the on/off button does nothing, need to open the back cover and re-seat the battery.
After a call is finished, the proximity sensor doesn't turn on the back light of LCD again tapping the screen or trying to use the on/off button does nothing, need to open the back cover and re-seat the battery.
The Friend stream is a nightmare as every time trying to use it ends up consuming 10 minutes of your life and resulting in an error message stating that the connection could not be established even if you were just browsing Google and are still able to browse.
Setting up the phone for first time gives you the option for email, face book setup etc. You can skip it while turning on the phone for the first time. Trying to do it later will not allow you to get you email configured neither your face book. Even if you try it the first time that won't help.
HTC tech-support has one answer to all your questions "HARD RESET", that is all they do.
Even after doing a hard reset the same issues persist and to my amazement this is the bloody 4th days after the purchase of this phone.
HTC should really do something about it or the brand name will be famous for some wrong reasons.
This is my First HTC phone and I don't think i will ever go for another HTC phone or tell any of my friends and family members to go for the same.
HTC positioned this phone so high but is not really worth it. Pretty disappointed with such a disguise by such a brand. -
Decent phone for the entry-level market
by nitevision92 on August 29, 2010
Pros: Build quality is very solid. Good functionality for the price.
Cons: Slow processor, lag is commonplace. Mediocre screen. Poor camera.

Summary: First things first: The HTC Wild fire is a great phone for those looking to get a first smartphone/touch device. For everyone else, especially the tech-savvy crowd, it falls short. Period.
The experience is sullied by the slow processor which lags when under strain. And lag episodes won't be occasional, it's actually pretty frequent, depending on your usage.
However, if you can look past these deficiencies, the HTC Wildfire is great at what it does, i.e. providing good functionality at an affordable price point. Call quality is good too. Recommended nonetheless for people who want a no-frills budget Android phone.
With Android and all those apps, I can almost forgive the screen- almost. -
simply not a phone you can rely on.
by parandehalp on August 12, 2010
Pros: This product is as bad as all other HTC products. It is fine when you test the product, as it has little data on it and few contacts. Once you start adding all your contacts, photos and music, you will see how it will start crashing.
Cons: what use is buying a new phone, only to need to add several patches and updates and fixes before you can use it. Has HTC or the world gone mad? Do we buy new cars only to start tighting the screws and fixing oil leaks from day 1.
Summary: I don't recommend HTC to anyone for business use.
