The good: The Kyocera Echo has a one-of-kind design that offers two screens and the ability to use two applications at once. Call quality is acceptable and the smartphone is quick and responsive.
The bad: The Kyocera Echo's design entails some usability quirks and we're concerned about long-term durability. The feature set is pretty average, it lacks 4G, and you'll have to wait for an upgrade beyond Froyo.
The bottom line: The Kyocera Echo's design offers some unique advantages, but its appeal is hampered by usability quirks and a lackluster feature set.

Great concept. Let's see if it pulls thru
by douggdangger on April 13, 2011
Pros: There's one thing this phone will do that's better than the rest. It's MULTITASKING.
The ifown goes a poor job of "multi-tasking", only on apps that Steve Jobs allows.
You can truly multi-task on the Android. With this, you can run one task on oneCons: Too early to tell. Doesn't take a rocket scientist to know that battery consumption will be increased. But anyone who needs to use a smartphone for several hours in a row will need for it to be plugged in shortly. It's nice to have a spare battery.

No doubt when the ifown 5 comes out with it's ground breaking feature of a removable battery battery, shills will buy it. As for myself, I've had that option for several years now.7 out of 8 users found this user opinion helpful.

Awesome Unique device
by desertmike680 on April 13, 2011
Pros: Dual screen (duh)/snap dragon processor/durable and sturdy hardware/ firmware performace is optimal/heavy (love heavy phones). 4g or dual core processor? Who cares. Not necessary. Device functions extremely well on Sprints network as does the CPU utilizat
Cons: The design is very functional for what its worth, but its not as sleek as other androids. Thats all I can think of honestly.

Summary: I am a handset/network tech for Sprint and I have the opportunity of being able to use the Echo on a daily basis (its on my desk as I type this) and I love the device. Its seriously very entertaining and fun to use. It performs well, its sturdy and having the ability of utilizing specific apps to make full use of the tab and multitasking modes, makes it pretty awesome. I'm glad Sprint has a one of a kind device and think it will do just fine. Oh yeah, having an entire screen for a keyboard really helps with typing too. My current phone is an Epic, but I would definitely pick up the Echo regadless.

Finally a phone I can see!

Summary: I had an Ipod touch. I liked it but there are a few things it did not do well. I downloaded the kindle app and wanted to read books. Not a chance, the screen was just too small. I sold it and purchased an ereader. The ereader due to its larger size, is not always with me. The echo solves this problem. Put it in tablet mode with the center bar horizontal and voila, portable ereader! The same thing goes for the web. The dual screens make a much nicer experience. I don't play many games so the processor speed is unimportant to me. As for the lack of 4g. My city isn't likely to have it for the next two years anyway. The one con for this phone is the battery life. Prolonged use with two screens will wear it down quickly, but they include an extra battery and how long does it take to change a battery? The bottom line is that so far I'm quite happy with this phone.

Summary: Basically the Kyocera Echo looks cool but i am sooo ready for an upgrade so that i can get rid of this phone. The battery life sucks (i keep my battery lasting by downloading a battery saving app) especially if youre on the internet (i switch out batteries like 5 times a day) then when youre on the phone it continues to hang up on ppl not bc of service but bc when youre talking the phone will light back up causing your face to hit the end button then everything you use in this phone cannot be seen on both screens at once smh and sometimes out of the blue i would look over at my phone and it would automatically be coming back on from switching off...one day i seen it do this 3x....i shouldve just stuck with my HTC EVO which was wayyyy cooler than this...i never used a phone that wasnt an HTC and now that i did switch the crap sucks!!!

Summary: I went from the HTC Arrive to the Kyocera Echo. Only had this phone for about month. This phone is completely all hype! When I first saw the phone I thought "this is a must have phone". Wrong!! The sales associate at Sprint even told me "I wouldn't recommend this phone to customers"...he said many customers complain and it doesnt sell as much because Kyoceras doesn't make the best phones! I didn't listen and bought it anyway. As soon as I got, it already started freezing and lagging and this was before downloading apps. I constantly had to call customer service to complain that it wouldn't allow to pick up phone calls because either the screen would be black or it freeze. Of course they tell me there's nothing they can do except do a hard reset or get a new one. Which in my opinion wasn't worth paying the deductible to get the same phone. when I press The battery life is extremely short, but the good thing is it comes with an extra battery. The dual screen has the annoying black hinge in the middle which sometimes makes whatever your doing become useless or unresponsive like playing games. This was probably one of the worst phones that I've had...now I have the HTC Evo Shift 4g and love it!

on-screen selections poorly placed; try it b4 purchase
by SunshineSwimmer on June 11, 2011
Pros: adequate screen size
Cons: delete button on eMail page is too close to where the unit is held, therefore, it is easy to accidentally delete a msg. A "verify delete" msg does not appear. Once the eMail is in Trash, there are not options to restore the msg. (although I'm told that

Unique phone with quirks, but offers a great experience
by hotbbq on April 26, 2011
Pros: Dual screens, true multi tasking, innovative
Cons: Styling, no WiMax, single core, UI quirks
Summary: I am fortunate enough to have been chosen to trial this phone for Sprint. After about three weeks of use I have come to really like this phone.
Pros:
- ...Summary: I am fortunate enough to have been chosen to trial this phone for Sprint. After about three weeks of use I have come to really like this phone.
Pros:
- The tablet mode is great and I use that most often. Once you get used to the extra screen space you won't want to go back.
- Dual mode apps let you truly multi-task.
- Battery life isn't terrible. Can be improved with a task killer.
Cons:
- The line in the center of the screen can be a little annoying in situations were you can't scroll the screen, but it's not the end of the world.
- At the moment the number of apps that can be run in dual mode is rather limited, but I suspect that list will continue to expand.
- I would have liked to see upgraded hardware specs, eg. dual core, OLED screens, WiMax.2 out of 3 users found this user opinion helpful.

the phone is alright as a phone
by maryann1981 on December 23, 2011
Pros: 2 screens, multi tasking, durable, comes with external battery charger and 2 batteries, hinges are durable, can take heavy wear and tear, update stops power cycling, can be on 2 different websites at once
Cons: heavy, battery life, not 4G, lags a lot, freezes up, color of phone, android force closes

Summary: i have had this phone for almost a year....i thought it was cool when i got it but its ok for a phone....not the best for making calls or texting but other than that its alright...i finally figured out why they give u an external battery charger and 2 batteries....the battery life sux...at most i can get 3 1/2 hours and thats if i dont do anything with the phone...i couldnt tell u how many times i actually had to pull the battery out b/c the phone froze...when i try to text sometimes its quick but then most of the time its very slow and when i type a message the phone likes to think that ur pressing other keys when ur not...the camera is nice and takes nice video but it also lags and takes forever to load anything...sometimes when i go to my gallery it doesnt show the pictures that are already on there...the phone took one of its hissy fits one morning and i chucked it across the floor..it didnt break but it started to work normal...there was another time it threw a fit and i tossed it literally 2 feet and the screen cracked at the top right...that hasnt messed anything up though it still works like it did...the tethering and mobile hotspot isnt too bad but once u turn it off its like the internet just completely shuts off with it....i had issues with the phone power cycling by itself when i first got it but after the android update it hasnt done that but i did have the joy of the phone shutting off like 4 times when i was on a phone call and the battery was fully charged...other than that the phone does some really cool things like being able to text on one screen and be on the internet on the other one....u can only use certain apps on the phone that use the 2 screens...i do like the phone but i am seriously looking to upgrade soon...if sprint could fix those issues with the phone or at least get kyocera to fix those it would be a great phone and wouldnt have to upgrade...as far as the hinges are concerned...i have no issues with them....my kids use my phone and i am constantly doing something on the phone...the hinges are surprisingly very durable and dont break easily...also android force closes a lot even when u try to make a call and its really annoying when u need to make a call
