The good: The LG Optimus L9 from T-Mobile has a snappy dual-core CPU, 4G, Android 4.0, and a 1080p HD camera.
The bad: The Optimus L9's battery drains quickly, it has a poor audio speaker, and it comes preloaded with too much bloatware.
The bottom line: The reasonable $80 price tag, dual-core processor, and Android 4.0, make the LG Optimus L9 a reliable midlevel handset for T-Mobile users.
Pros: Brilliant display; relatively easy to use; larger print/digital keyboard (compared to slide-out models); familiar navigation and tools; easy to hear/be heard; easily paired with our car's Bluetooth phone feature; and, great promotional pricing.
Cons: Lots of bloatware; needs to come with a more complete user guide to help explore/begin using many features (need to download from LG site).

Summary: A great new phone, especially when upgrading/renewing at the end of the normal two-year agreement cycle. Very attractive promotional pricing and $100 rebates from T-mobile make this a very competitive choice.
There are many features and much to learn, so a good move is to download the complete user guide from LG and then just dive in. The extensive amount of pre-loaded items (bloatware) should be down-sized in favor of allowing later adds as you need/want them. Battery endurance may be an issue if, as one reviewer notes, you spend about a half-day playing games, doing emails, etc. But this is, after all, a phone; and, when used for that purpose (including it waiting in standby), the battery life is quite adequate. Having the phone readily adapt to the Bluetooth phone feature on our car also was a welcome addition. It too can function as a mobile hot spot (handy for those on the go with wi-fi only tablets).
The keyboard displays are large and easy to use - much more so than the keyboards on some slide-out models we were considering. The audible "click" for each keystroke easily overcomes the loss of a tactile feel of actually pressing a key.
For those of us "baby boomers" who want to upgrade our phones and capabilities without having to have absolutely everything all the time, this LG Optimus L9 fills the bill. It is a little larger in the hand, but not too heavy, the display is both bright and of good size, and there are more than enough features and options than most of us will ever need or use.
When it comes to price point, this phone offers a lot for the money, and the whole package and available $100 rebate actually moved us away from some other possible choices.
Not a perfect phone and package, but a very good deal for for those who do not have to have it all.
