LG Optimus S - charcoal (Sprint) price range: $49.99 - $94.99

The good: The LG Optimus S has an attractive, slim profile with features that include GPS, EV-DO Rev. A, and Wi-Fi with tethering capabilities. It also has a 3.2-megapixel camera and it ships with Android 2.2.
The bad: The LG Optimus S' slower processor means it doesn't have Flash video in the browser. The camera doesn't have HD video capture or an LED flash. Call quality was mixed.
The bottom line: The LG Optimus S is an affordable yet full-featured Android smartphone for Sprint, but we did wish the call quality were better.

So annoying! Hate it!
by SuzyWes on January 1, 2012
Pros: Android. Touch screen. Free
Cons: It's so hard to type with the touch screen keyboard. I'm constantly messing up and having to go back. It's slow. I've had mine for about 7 months and recently it's had trouble charging. Sometimes it freezes up and I have to take out the battery

Disappointing, turned me off smart phones.
by mfholland on September 21, 2011
Pros: It does make phone calls, send and receive text and email (though with a time lag).
Cons: Poor media audio.
Some basic functionality issues - a voice dialer that requires on screen confirmation? Really?Summary: My first smart phone, and I was shocked at what seem to be simple functions that just come up short. I'll be going back to a nice phone that ...
Summary: My first smart phone, and I was shocked at what seem to be simple functions that just come up short. I'll be going back to a nice phone that just makes phone calls. Too many hassles to compensate for all the bells and whistles of android.
Very poor audio from the media player - have to turn up the car stereo ALL THE WAY to match the 50% level of the CD player.
Clock can't display weather unless I force it, then it doesn't always remember/can't find my location.
Battery more than half gone after 12 hours idling in my pocket, so nightly charging is essential.
LG refuses to provide any tech support - are either ignorant of the phone's abilities or disinterested in customer service, or both.
Calendar sync resets all reminders to 24 hours.
Camera zoom is just enlargement - reducing resolution of zoomed photos.
Voice dialing won't - stops for a confirmation touch - so what's the point of voice dialing?
Did I mention the anemic media player?
Poor reception - sitting in one place calls go to voice mail one time, ring through the next.
The Gingerbread upgrade resulted in adding: won't talk to Windows 7 or XP, SD card keeps dismounting, audio jack stopped working, location feature more spotty.1 out of 1 users found this user opinion helpful.

Summary: its an okay phone, Ive had it for almost a year now and yes Ive had problems with the phone. Its lags up from time to time and doesnt gets any service, but thats due to the cariier, sprint. But its a good phone, its powered by andriod which makes it nice and also the full touch screen is nice. Its pretty durable too, ive dropped it countless times and only tiny scratches on the back cover, nothing significant to the actual screen part of the phone. in all i give this a good rating due to its lags and service restrictions.

by metalkin2u on July 23, 2011
Pros: Does all Android functions, nice camera, easy to use, speak to text works well, light, decent battery life
Cons: slow processor, not near enough internal memory - by the time they use over half for programs for the phone you only get 128mb, alot of programs dont go to SD cards
Summary: entry level android, good starter phone for the price. good stepping stone to a better android like HTC

Excellent smartphone offered by sprint
by narn3049 on July 22, 2011
Pros: The phone is loaded with tons of tools and options and runs android which is a very good system
Cons: One small con would be that calls sometimes drop, and sometimes email wont open due to the lack of 3g in my area. thats only sprint- so goes on my rating of them.

Fine for it's price
by weakweaksauce on June 24, 2011
Pros: The phone is very cheap and is fairly decent on how it handles data speed. Battery is pretty good in comparison to other smart phones I have had in the past. Surprisingly resilient.
Cons: Storage capacity is sub par for what I need and I end up deleting all my call logs and text messages to clear up enough space to receive one pending text message. Had to pull the battery a few times as well because the screen would go black and the phone

Summary: I've had the phone Since mid December and it has held up pretty well, if you are looking a good cheap phone or if this is your first smart phone, it should be just fine. If you intend on using a lot of data or want a whole bunch of apps, save up for a better phone.
