LG Optimus S - charcoal (Sprint) price range: $49.99 - $94.99

The good: The LG Optimus S has an attractive, slim profile with features that include GPS, EV-DO Rev. A, and Wi-Fi with tethering capabilities. It also has a 3.2-megapixel camera and it ships with Android 2.2.
The bad: The LG Optimus S' slower processor means it doesn't have Flash video in the browser. The camera doesn't have HD video capture or an LED flash. Call quality was mixed.
The bottom line: The LG Optimus S is an affordable yet full-featured Android smartphone for Sprint, but we did wish the call quality were better.

It's okay...but could be even better.

Pros: Easy to use, fairly responsive touch screen
Cons: Battery life stinks, touch keyboard is very iffy, slow processor

Summary: This replaced the crappy BlackBerry Curve 3G I had. Now, I heard lots of hype about how Android phones are better than BlackBerries. Even the rep fed the hype machine. I figured why not, it's free. Lousy move. First off, it's slow with data. A cell tower undergoing repairs in my area makes it worse as even at 3G, the web browser is slower than a snail covered in molasses. Calls drop like crazy even when outside.
The virtual keyboard...ugh. This thing is so hit-and-miss, it makes the one on the BlackBerry Storm 2 look genius. Despite this snafu, it's pretty responsive...maybe too much so.
The manual says NOTHING about how to download music from the web (save link), and it seems impossible to sort pictures in the gallery alphabetically. Oh, and the slowness of the processor seems to affect the loading of pictures from the memory card...mine does, anyway.
Overall, it could benefit from a faster processor...or at least faster load times!! Get it if you want...but I say wait until you can grab something better.1 out of 1 users found this user opinion helpful.

Stunningly Fast Entry Into The Android Market
by TxRod on June 16, 2011
Pros: Did I mention it was quick? Tons of apps, great processor speed, great, thin design, love the home key buttons.
Cons: No flash, audio quality a bit tinny sounding.

Summary: I let go of my loved Palm Pre to get the Optimus and I just wasn't sure if I would like it. This thing, however, is fast! Great processor speed, love the direct dial feature, solid camera and video capabilities. These come with Swype for texting and it is incredible. This thing is so fast and basically takes the toil out of texting. I got mine from Sprint for $20 with an upgrade but it's easily worth 10 times that. I couldn't be happier.

Summary: I switched from T-Mobile to Sprint and it was THE RIGHT THING TO DO. I got this phone and it was the best phone I've ever owned! The messaging was really nice, and so was the call quality, the web is fantastic! I'm a first time Android user and I consider myself an Android Fan since I got the LG Optimus S. I would recommend it to any Sprint customer! There is only one problem, which is the Battery Life, I sure wish it doesn't drain so fast when you use the apps, like YouTube, Facebook, Twitter, and Web. But the overall performance of the phone is wonderful.

Summary: For an entry level android this phone excels. The initial keyboard is very cramped but don't despair I found a much better one for free on the app market. The call quality is great and it is very easy to sync contacts from GMAIL, Yahoo, and Facebook. I worried that since Android phones are backed by Google that my Yahoo mail and contactswould be hard to integrate, but I was pleased to find that loading other mail services was easy and in fact that one of the IDS is Yahoo. Overall a great smartphone and will be the first of many android phones for me.

Summary: I switched to this when my BlackBerry died (and after trying the Samsung Intercept for 4 days, which was horrible!) - thought I'd have trouble without a keyboard, but this touchscreen is very responsive and easy enough to get used to. I use this for work (&fun!) - this syncs easily with Microsoft Exchange (email, calendar, contacts). I loooove all the features of the Android OS - but an application to close all programs (like 'Advanced Task Killer') is a must. I haven't played much with SprintID but it seems ok. Phone doesn't have a flash, but camera takes decent pictures. It's not heavy or bulky, and easy to maneuver through the screens. I highly recommend it!

Summary: This is a really good phone and the least expensive in its ball park. I love the features and android 2.2. It was a shaky beginning. I am new to the touch screan, so I didnt know how to answer the phone or set up my voice mail and the book's instruction on how to do so sucked. So i had to go back to Sprint store to get the help I needed. I love the fact that the internet access is fast, the phone is light weight. texting can be difficult if you have big fingers, but if you download the speak to text from android, this is awesome. It is a headache trying to call someone while driving due to the voice dialer not being able to fully understand you when other background noise is going on. Over all I love my phone and glad I didnt spend over $200 for an I-phone or some of the other things out.

Great Deal For An Android!
by brianh1387 on November 21, 2010
Pros: Virtual Keyboard, Android Apps, Size, Price, Speech to Text (I am very impressed and grateful for this), Ease of Use, Wi-Fi and 3g
Cons: Battery Life (of course), Call quality (kind of metallic), Camera and Video Quality, Notifications (Vibrate isn't long)

Summary: Coming from the 1Gen Samsung Instinct this phone is pretty amazing. It holds up well among what I have seen of Android phones so far and was available for a great price ($49.99). This phone is great for a college age person like me, connecting with every social network application (Facebook, Twitter, AIM, Skype, Email), is very sleek and lightweight and easy to use.
However off the bat I am bummed with battery life. It seems like it takes a few hours to fully charge and is about dead by the end of the day with normal use (as compared to the same amount of use with my old phone which the battery lasted longer with the same use). It's just something to get used to, but hopefully it will get better over time. It's always scary to try a new phone in that sometimes you are afraid you won't get the same quality of everything as you did with your old phone. Also, the camera is a bit disappointing only being 3.2 Megapixels. I would have hoped for at least 5 but it is what it is.
All in all for $49.99 this phone was a great buy!1 out of 1 users found this user opinion helpful.
