Motorola Defy (T-Mobile) price range: $4.99 - $148.99

The good: The Motorola Defy is tough enough to withstand everyday hazards with its tough Gorilla glass and rugged exterior. Features include a 5-megapixel camera, a music player, Wi-Fi calling, and GPS, and it ships with Android 2.1. Call quality is excellent.
The bad: The Motorola Defy doesn't take very good pictures and its rough-and-tumble aesthetic isn't for everyone. We also wished we didn't have to activate the Motoblur account to use the phone.
The bottom line: The Motorola Defy is a great midtier Android smartphone, especially for those who need a phone to be a little more protected against life's everyday mishaps.

Summary: I have 4 kids that have this phone. It suits each of them very well. It is rugged, which is a must for my daughter who went through 5 Blackberries in 18 months. My boys are power users and they love it. They keep finding new apps and new uses for the phones. Great phone, ZERO regrets.

Great phone for parents with young children.
Pros: I love the camera. The tough screen is great. Its water resistant dust proof and shock resistant. A friend of mine left hers on her car when she backed out it fell and she accidently ran over it and it still works.
Cons: Wi-Fi calling. The only problem I have with the Wi-Fi calling is if you get out of range the call is dropped. It would be better if it could switch out of the mode before you lose the call.
Summary: I like how durable this phone is. I am a mother of 3 I have a 4yr old, 2yr old and an infant this is the perfect phone for a ...
Summary: I like how durable this phone is. I am a mother of 3 I have a 4yr old, 2yr old and an infant this is the perfect phone for a parent with young children. It has been drooled on, dropped, tossed, used as an "airplane" and it still works as good as the day I got it. I would deffinately suggest this phone to any parent with young children.

Summary: I have had this phone a couple of months now, so I figure I can write a reasonable review. It works well, and most every application (except flash games on the web) is quite responsive. There are a few minor drawbacks, but overall, it is probably the best phone on the market for me.
First on the good side: It is durable, and even more so since I added a rubber case and a screen protector on top of the ruggedized body and gorilla glass. I know this is probably overkill, but if it is worth doing, it is worth overdoing. The GPS works well, the screen looks very nice, and call quality is very good.
Now for the down side: The battery only lasts about a day and a half. Not bad for an android device, but since it is already rugged, I wish they had made it a little thicker to add some more battery life. It only has 512M of memory (I remember when that was a lot for a desktop) so occasionally, it will lag. A quick boost form android assistant, or a hit from fast reboot will kill everything running and get it back on track, but it would be nice to not need to do that. It is rare, and I am an application freak, so I overtax it, and sometimes it shows. The biggest thing though is screen visibility in daylight. It is a rugged phone with a GPS. Wouldn't they think I might use it outside??? The screen is almost unreadable in bright sunshine, which is sad.
Other than that it is a great phone. Android with all of that fun and utility combined with being almost "me proof."1 out of 1 users found this user opinion helpful.

Pros: Great Apps, Battery life is Fantastic, Wifi calling, DLNA,

Summary: My fiance has a 4G Mytouch and I have this phone. We are constantly comparing our phone capabilities. I've changed phones 7 times in the past 2 years and I've ultimately hated every one for some reason or other. This phone doesn't run hot, it doesn't suck the battery life even when using wifi, which I HAVE To at home because I don't get very good T-Mobile signal at my house. DLNA is fabulous I can transfer tons of music and movies and documents from my laptop straight to my phone in seconds which is probably my favorite part of the phone because I LOATHE iTunes. GPS is great. Speech to Text works great for me and the SWIPE texting is great also. You'll love this phone..

Summary: Well it is no atrix but then it doesnt pretend to be one.No cellphone in the market hits a perfect balance between the budget androids and the full blown mammoths but this has just hit the right notes.Good processor, decent camera, super accurate gps, high res large display and come on,it never hurts to have that peace of mind knowing that no amount of rain or dust can spoil your precious phone when you face the tough world. All in all quite a sensible and smart choice

Not as tough as made out to be
by JamesBirkin on May 13, 2011
Pros: It seems to perform ok -
Cons: camera poor, the screen did scratch quite easily, the earpiece gave up pretty fast - so far new one holding out but sounds a bit crackly from time to time - some have doubts if problem can be fixed but so far so good after a month and a half
Summary: Not massively happy with it - had corresponsence that the problem was due to attempts to waterproof by subjecting earpiece to vacuum - hope it is solved as it was ...
Summary: Not massively happy with it - had corresponsence that the problem was due to attempts to waterproof by subjecting earpiece to vacuum - hope it is solved as it was vv irritating - will say the co also replaced screen unasked when it was returned for earpiece - so that was a plus

It is 2.2 after quick update, better than iphone.
by frank_mty on May 10, 2011
Pros: Contrary to what everyone here says... it is 2.2 after a quick update, so far It does just about anything an iphone would do, plus many things better... I keep on lisening to all of my mp3 that I converted and downloaded and shared with friends... hardly
Cons: It comes with unwanted apps that you can not remove, to me that is the most anooying thing. Like most phones, when running multiple apps, it does get pretty slow... so u have to get an App killer; there are apps like wifi calling that would never turn off
Summary: Great phone, just be ready to do a lot of app upgrades. I think every phone outhere has similar problems anyways. Not to mention, it would take a 32gig card... ...
Summary: Great phone, just be ready to do a lot of app upgrades. I think every phone outhere has similar problems anyways. Not to mention, it would take a 32gig card... somthing iphones would not do. It is very tough, screen still needs a screen protector (it still scrach). It is not afraid of water, or drops... If anyone here has posted bad reviews is because they wanted something that was "ready" for them to start using, with out looking on how to improve it.
