Motorola Defy (T-Mobile) price range: $134.99 - $148.99

The good: The Motorola Defy is tough enough to withstand everyday hazards with its tough Gorilla glass and rugged exterior. Features include a 5-megapixel camera, a music player, Wi-Fi calling, and GPS, and it ships with Android 2.1. Call quality is excellent.
The bad: The Motorola Defy doesn't take very good pictures and its rough-and-tumble aesthetic isn't for everyone. We also wished we didn't have to activate the Motoblur account to use the phone.
The bottom line: The Motorola Defy is a great midtier Android smartphone, especially for those who need a phone to be a little more protected against life's everyday mishaps.

Great phone that will last.
by minicapone on July 6, 2011
Pros: It will survive a drop in the toilet.
Upgradable to Android 2.2
Less expensive than most smartphones.
Has a nice small size to it, fits in your pocket and it feels good to hold.
No need to buy a screen protecter or cover,Cons: Port covers will get loose over time.
It has a small screen size when comparing to the iPhone 4 and Samsung Galaxy S.Summary: If you need a phone that will last, and run good, buy this phone. It's not as high end as the Atrix or Nexus, but it's a lot ...

Delivers exactly what it says.

Pros: Built like a tank. Waterproof. I like the camera. It got the images I wanted even in low light - considering it's a phone cam. Clear, bright display. Gorilla glass.
Cons: Audio nowhere near iphone or ipad. Can't sync worth sh*t with a Mac. Accessories hard to find.
Summary: Got over the sync issues quick. I really wanted was a phone that could withstand my carelessness. The rest is a bonus. Lots of bonuses. Thank you Moto. My first ...

nothing is not all it is touted to be

Pros: scratch proof, easy to clean up
Cons: very often my defy stops responding to the touches, especially when the glass is dirty or a little wet, so I cannot pickup calls or manage other applications

Summary: I got my defy for about 4-5 months, I bought it because of it's roughness, but, the first time it felled from about 50 cm height, my gorilla glass braked into pieces; the good news is that I cannot find a replacement anywhere in Romania, where I live. I don't advise anyone to take all that marketing sht for granted, neither about gorilla glass, neither about defy. Very disappointed.

Summary: I expected a cheap phone when I ordered this phone sight unseen. After reviewing the line up for T-Mobile this one just seemed to fit. After reading the reviews I decided this was probably the best bang for the buck. Boy was I surprised when I received the phone. It does everything I need and more. I expected some issues with the blur and only an 800 mhz processor. Coming from Sprint and the EVO 4G I expected to see a big difference in performance. Other than a few screen lags due to blur widgets it performs just as well as the EVO did. I was quite concerned about battery life also. This has not been a problem at all and will out last the EVO by quite a bit in my experience. In just a few days I have really put this phone through its paces and it really has surprised me on how well it performs. I have always used otterbox cases but the bulk sometimes gets in the way. This phone is built so one really isn't necessary to keep your phone in good working order. I sometimes forget I even have it in my pocket because it is so small and light.
For a mid range android device this phone is nearly on par with the higher end devices costing 2-3 times the money. I personally don't think many average users would be able to tell the difference between this phone and the higher end android phones. If this phone were to be updated to android 2.2 I think it would be right on track with the high end android phones in performance, but sadly it is not scheduled for the update here in the US. If you are looking for a good entry level android phone that is built to last and performs very well this is definitely a device to consider. -
A complex, but easy to use phone. It's very awesome!!!!
by Zak110695 on February 19, 2011
Pros: Very fast, doesn't lag, Android OS, Home screen widgets, SMS messages appear as a chat, Great security, Great UI.
Cons: Having to sign up for Motoblur to use the phone, having to make Bluetooth discoverable every time you want to send/receive something, having to approve every time someone sends a file via Bluetooth, Cannot remove pre-installed apps

Summary: GORILLA GLASS what a joke two weeks owning it and my daughter dropped it from about a foot the glass screen is cracked top to bottom. The reason we bought this phone was the claims made about it. Now we are told it will cost £60 to fix TOTAL C**P and that is being polite.
I do think that when a claim is made such as this the company should be obliged to repair when it happens within such a short time frame.
I have dropped my two IPHONES from similar hights and no problem.
Don't believe the hype as I have found loads of people with similar issues.2 out of 5 users found this user opinion helpful.

HORRIBLE experience!
by nalisio on January 13, 2011
Pros: water resistant
Cons: This is actually the 2nd Defy I've owned. The first one had problems with the video so they exchanged it at the store. However, this one is CONSTANTLY freezing up when I browse through my contact list & it won't let me even make phone calls sometimes
Summary: This phone also seems to have erased all of my contacts. The representatives at the store said it has some sort of issue with synching contacts. They couldn't tell ...
Summary: This phone also seems to have erased all of my contacts. The representatives at the store said it has some sort of issue with synching contacts. They couldn't tell me what exactly was going on with the phone or WHY it was happening and yet their solution was to replace this phone with the EXACT same phone (which would make that my 3rd Motorola Defy phone in a month...no thanks). I've been having problems from the get-go and I've been in and out of the store a NUMBER of times. Each time someone would try to troubleshoot it and tell me that the issue is something different than what the last person said. I wanted to get my money back but they kept telling me just to try something different (and I did). I haven't even had the phone for a month but I'm past the 14 day warranty (thanks to me trying their advice) and they won't give me my money back. This is a joke! I've been with the company for over 8yrs butif that's the best they can do it looks like it's time to try a new company. I would NOT recommend this phone to ANYONE!!
