Droid RAZR M vs. Samsung Galaxy S3
by SHodapp55 on November 3, 2012
Pros: + Battery is simply amazing

+ Apps run smoothly
+ Voice quality very good
+ 4G is lightning fast

Summary: I first bought the Samsung Galaxy S3, while my wife got an Iphone 5. I found the size of the Samsung unwieldy, and the battery life atrocious. I couldn't get through the day without plugging it in, and I'm not a heavy telephone user. I also couldn't work it well with just a thumb while driving...the Sammy is a 2-handed phone. Finally, the Samsung had trouble connecting to wifi in some areas where the Iphone 5 had no problem. For these reasons, I returned it.
The RAZR M is just the opposite. Yesterday, I unplugged the phone at 9am. I had Bluetooth and Wifi on all day. I live in a bad service area, with 2 bars of 3G or 1 bar of 4G, and it seems to oscillate between the two, and this is exactly what is supposed to be a major battery drain. I made a couple calls over BT and downloaded and listened to several podcasts via wifi. Also installed a couple apps. When I went to plug it in at 9pm, the battery was still at 75%. That is simply amazing.
In addition, the phone is much easier to carry in a pocket and hold in the hand than the Samsung...basically the same size as the Iphone 5. Working it one-handed is no problem...seems to be the perfect size. The case also seems much better-built and stronger than on the Sammy or the Iphone (the Iphone is known to scratch).
The RAZR M has the same 1.5 GHz processor as the Sammy, but only 1GB of RAM instead of the Sammy's 2GB. I run a lot of apps and didn't notice any difference in performance. Tests show the Iphone 5 to be the fastest on the market right now, but I honestly don't see any difference in performance between my wife's Iphone 5 and either the Sammy or the RAZR M.
At 960x540, the screen resolution on the RAZR M isn't as good as the Sammy's 1280 x 720 or the Iphone's 1136 x 640, but I don't watch videos on my phone and didn't really notice the difference. If you really need a big screen, go for the new RAZR HD and HD MAXX. These have the Sammy's big screen, but with the rest of the features of the RAZR and RAZR M, including the outstanding battery life.
For you world travelers, the RAZR M is global-ready, like the Iphone5...buy a SIM card when you get to the new country and replace the Verizon one.
You might think the 8GB max. internal storage might be a problem...especially since, as with the Sammy, you can't offload apps to the microSD card. Surprise! I have a LOT of apps. I loaded them all and they only took less than 1GB of internal storage, so it wasn't really a limitation after all. In addition, you can still put all your photos, videos, etc. on the SD card.
About my only complaint is that the white RAZR M has a black foreground around the screen, inside the white case. Result: If you put a black case around it, you no longer have a white phone (unless the case is white, obviously). The Iphone and the Samsung white models look sharp with a different-color case against the white foreground...there is no such contrast with the white RAZR M.

Overall, this is easily the best phone I've owned, and I'm happy to recommend it to you. Best of all, it is AT LEAST $100 cheaper than the Iphone 5 or the Galaxy S3.9 out of 9 users found this user opinion helpful.

Summary: Ok, first I will say that I love the phone and CNET does a far better job critiquing the phone than I could. So I just want to point out a few minor things, one being personal preference. 1.) The white is not what I expected (my fault for not seeing it in person before buying). I was seeing in online pictures just a plain white color. It's actually a matte pearl color (more on the girly side as far as white goes). Just would have liked a straight gloss white, not big deal. 2.) My signal strength at work wasn't great with my 3G HTC Incredible, but with this phone it is none existent, no more Pandora at work for me (company blocks it on computers). Could be the difference between 3G and 4G coverage in my area, not sure.

The phone I was looking for at a reasonable price.

Pros: The size is great if you put a phone in your pocket
Made of quality materialsCons: Power button and volume buttons are close together. You could accidently turn you volume down or even off if you are aware of what button you are pressing. Otterbox case helps differentiate between the two buttons.

Summary: I did a lot of research before I decided on Razr M. I didn't want I5 because I didn't want to purchase all new peripherals. I whittled my choice to Galaxy S111 and the M. The Galaxy had a bigger screen and more clear display and S voice but was made from cheaper materials (a otterbox would have been fine but now you have a pretty big phone) I had to keep in mind that my primary purchase is a PHONE secondary to other apps. It's a great phone for me and even with the Otterbox it is a great size.

Summary: Had the phone for over 2 weeks now, and absolutely love it. The size is just right and the 4.3 inch display is awesome. Finally, a compact LTE phone that has a full day + of battery life. It has NFC technology for potential mobile wallet use. Thrilled with the microSD 64Gb capability. GPS response is much faster than other Android phones I have owned. I agree with the previous review. The Razr M is absolutely rock solid. You won't be disappointed!!!

Amazing phone with great size.

As of release, no default support for App to SD

Summary: It seems like phones these days just keep getting bigger and bigger. I wanted a phone that actually fit in my pocket, and was comfortable to hold. I picked up the black Droid Razr M and it's a delight to use!
Display - Despite not having as high of a resolution as other phones out right now, the picture of the screen is great! Even at about medium brightness, colors pop and icons look very clear. Videos are wonderful. Although if you hold your phone very close to your face, you can see some blur on icons and such, but unless you are looking for it on purpose, you can't notice it.
Software/Hardware - The Droid Razr M comes with Android 4.0, and was stated that it will recieve Android 4.1 in the future. This paired with a dual 1.5Ghz processor makes using the operating system fast and fluid. I have not yet recieved any lag in animations or loading, even with quite a few apps open. By sliding right at the home screen, brings you to an option page with an options page to easily enable/disable Ringtone, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, GPS, Mobile Data (my old phone didn't have this, this is a BIG plus), and Airplane mode. As of the time I am typing this, by default this phone doesn't seem to allow App to SD, but with about 8Gigs of internal space, this should be enough for most people. I have not tried an app to allow me to move them to the SD card, but I don't have the need to as of now.
Camera - With all the positives about the phone, there has to be at least one downside, and this is the camera. In a room with lights, or outside, it takes what I would call "cell phone" quality pictures. It isn't up to par with a real camera, and there is nothing stunning about the quality, but it gets the job done. When taking a picture in an un-lit room, or dark areas, picture quality is poor. The flash helps to some extent, but if a camera is a major deciding factor in a phone, you might not find this up to par. The only time I use my phone camera is for quick shots or something while I'm out, or taking pictures of my cat, for some everyday use the camera will be good enough for most people.
Battery - The battery life on this phone is great. With brightness on medium, wi-fi on, I played some games, used the browser a lot, watched a couple videos online, my battery charge lasted about 3 days. If I didn't watch as many videos, and played less games, I'm sure I could push the battery maybe as far as 5 or 6 days.
Other Notes - The only other things I can mention is that the phone has no physical buttons. The Back/Home/Apps buttons are on the touch screen itself. I like this a lot, but it could be a deal breaker for some. The volume buttons and the screen on/off are right next to each other, it takes a little getting used to, I used to turn off the screen sometimes when trying to turn up the volume, but after playing around with the phone you'll learn not to do it. There was some bloatware when I got my phone, some app for buying shoes and some Amazon stuff, but with Android 4, you can just disable them all, wasn't a big deal to me.
If you are looking for a phone roughly iPhone sized, or just smaller than most Androids is the phone to get!2 out of 2 users found this user opinion helpful.

Summary: I love this phone! I work at a store that is an authorized VZ wireless store, so I take a lot of time before I pick a new phone. I was really getting sick of seeing only larger phones coming in because I don't have a purse to carry my large phone in. I think that they make those big phones for women and don't consider guys who put their phones in their pockets. I was originally considering getting the incredible 4G LTE, but I was not happy with all of the poor reviews that I was seeing. So glad that I decided to wait a little longer. I didn't think that I would like the fact that the battery was nonremovable at first, but it really isn't that big of a deal. If you are looking for a phone to put in your pocket and you want good battery life all for less than $100 look no farther. I would recommend this to anyone looking to get out of the iPhone 4 or 4S. The Camera and screen are probably a little better than this phones are but that is it. I think that this phones smokes it everywhere else, especially battery.

THE True I-Phone Alternative

Summary: I have had this phone for about 3 weeks and I absolutely love it. The Razr M has a sleek compact design and fits easily in your pocket. The battery is giving me more than 20 hours of mixed use so it's truly an "all-day" phone. The overall size is a perfect fit for one hand texting and browsing. The 4.3" display size hits the sweet spot for form and function. Unlike the Iphone 5, I can talk and surf the web simultaneously. (The I-phone 5 can't do that on Verizon or Sprint networks.)It has NFC technology for potential mobile wallet use. It has a microSD slot for which I purchased a SanDisk 64GB MicroSDXC memory card (Category 10), formatted it within the Razr M and it works like a charm. (That's more than 70GB Total storage available on my Razr M). It's water resistant and the build quality is absolutely rock solid. Get the Razr M - you won't be disappointed!!!

Summary: Compared to my Samsung Alias, a basic phone, the RAZR had terrible reception, ran hotter, and had a much quieter maximum volume. As a phone, the RAZR was a major step down form a 4+ year old clamshell.
The RAZR's android experience was also lacking. My Samsung Galaxy mp3 player is nicer to use, despite running gingerbread. Verizon blocks some of the free Google services I've enjoyed on my Galaxy player- the gallery and camera on the RAZR only link to Verizon's own pay cloud storage instead of picasa/google+. This seems like a small gripe, but there were other little places the android experience was neutered by Verizon. Additionally Verizon pre-loaded pages of useless apps that are not delete-able, cluttering up the phone.
The phone is boxed up and heading back to Verizon. Good riddance.1 out of 2 users found this user opinion helpful.
