The good: The Motorola Droid Razr Maxx HD (Verizon) offers fast performance, a big eye-popping screen, and luxurious design. It also has great call quality, lots of storage, 4G data speeds, and unbeatable battery life.
The bad: The Droid Razr Maxx HD's major weakness is a camera that produces subpar images. The phone is filled with Verizon bloatware as well.
The bottom line: Motorola's fast, stylish Droid Razr Maxx HD offers outstanding battery life, but its camera captures unimpressive images.

Everything I'd hoped coming from the original Razr
by Zodwraith on October 23, 2012
Pros: Design feels absolute top notch.
Snappy cpu.
Gorgeous screen.
Ridiculous battery life. (this one's huge for me as I'm away from power sources 90% of the day)
Very light and thin considering the absolutely huge battery.
LOUD external speaker.Cons: Pentile display but I can't see any imperfections unless my nose is touching the screen. This feels like reviewers nit picking.
Premium price.
Stupid name.
Camera software isn't the best in the business but is far from bad.
Verizon bloat.Summary: If you're a quality feel kinda person you can't top the Razr HD Maxx. You could always buy an aftermarket super battery for a GS3 to get the ...
Summary: If you're a quality feel kinda person you can't top the Razr HD Maxx. You could always buy an aftermarket super battery for a GS3 to get the stamina of the Maxx but it will look ridiculous and still have the cheap plastic casing and horrible UI bloat.
When you think about the fact that apple charges $100 more to go to 32GB, it's like you got the bigger battery for free. :)
The external speaker is the best I've ever heard bar none. No idea what the reviewer's malfunction was. A tinny file being played at too high a volume?
I'd have liked to get the 2GB of RAM that's in the GS3. There's still no evidence that it's necessary or even beneficial, but making a claim like that is akin to the iPhone fanatics that claimed you didn't need a 4" screen for years then act as if it's revolutionary when Apple finally throws it's fans a bone with the iPhone5. Having it is better than not.
I don't expect a phone camera to give me $1000 Canon level shots and only take several pictures a month with it. Learn to light a subject properly and hold still and you'll improve your pictures far more than buying a smartphone based on it's camera's abilities.
I'd have liked to have 4.1 from launch but in a month or two this point will be moot.
Reviewers nit picking the pentile display are likely the same that will still rate a far smaller iPhone retina display as superior simply because it has an apple logo on it. I have to seriously strain to see even a hint of blending of pixels. AKA you can't see anything but perfection with the naked eye. If you're just trying to knock something down so it doesn't approach your precious iPhone you should target Verizon's obnoxious level of bloat they cram into every phone they sell.
The perfect phone would have a slim design using only metal, glass and/or kevlar, amazing battery life, Samsung specs, Moto radios, water resistant coating, HTC camera, and a Nexus-Pure Android OS.
First and foremost these are mobile phones meaning battery and radios trump all. Cameras can get new software, OS's will be updated, and you can root to remove bloat or horrible UIs, but you can't un-plastic a GS3 or improve it's battery without making it look/feel even cheaper. IMHO the RAZR HD MAXX is the closest you can get to a perfect smartphone with the GS3 a really close 2nd.
If Samsung would wake up and start making their casings feel like they weren't ordered from Playskool ,stop corrupting Android with the abomination that is Sense, and live up to their promise earlier this year that they care about battery life, Motorola and HTC would be history as handset manufacturers.
The RAZR M and HDs show that Moto has been listening to consumers and reviewers and they're serious about giving us what we want. This is why the MAXX was a no-brainer for me. It's still not perfect but considering the competition it fully deserves 5 stars.

Best Android Phone!

Summary: I've been using this phone for 4 days and couldn't be happier with it. I thought long and hard about getting the iPhone5 over this and thankfully I made the right choice. If you are like me and don't want to be dictated to by Apple, then this is the phone for you. I like to change the appearance of my phone through the use of widgets. Something that is not possible on the iPhone. I use this phone for business and I must have simultaneous voice and data. Here are two examples: If I'm using my phone for turn by turn navigation and a call comes in...the navigation would turn off; If I'm on the phone with someone and I need to check my exchange schedule...I wouldn't be able to on the iPhone. And finally, Google's Maps are state of the art.

Purchased 10/18/12, day of release.
by welchrock on October 19, 2012
Pros: Packs a lot into a very solid, quality package. Screen is enormous and the bezel is smaller than the previous Raxr Maxx. Totally flat back; overall high-end design. Powers up very quickly; 'Smart Actions' Motorola software could be useful.
Cons: Froze once already - had to hit side buttons to restart. Not sure why the Maxx HD is $100 more than the non-Maxx HD. I don't need the 32GB memory, just the extra battery life. Camera definitely could use some help - maybe software will help?
Summary: Very happy with phone overall thus far, but in full disclosure I was coming from a Droid X so I probably would have been happy with anything released since 2010. ...
Summary: Very happy with phone overall thus far, but in full disclosure I was coming from a Droid X so I probably would have been happy with anything released since 2010.
Used this for a good 72 hours now, personal and business use. Finding more cons to add than pros, but overall am very happy with the device overall.
I'll report more after I've used the phone for a full weekend. The fact it froze up on me within the first 8 hours is concerning. At the time all I was doing was installing applications from the Play market one at a time.
Updated on Oct 21, 2012
More Cons:
Screen is enormous but the utilization of the space is very poor. Google Search on the top of every homescreen can't be removed, icons are under-sized, icon spacing is wide, pictures of those being dialed are very small. Also with the screen, the top status bar is painfully small and under-emphasized despite being loaded with crucial information. Media volume through Bluetooth does not get loud enough. Camera is really terrible, extremely hopeful software can resolve grainy-ness and persistent darkness of shots. Will try some third-party apps soon.
More Pros:
Battery life is legit amazing, display at 100% brightness is a sight to behold. Speed is consistently impressive.
Hasn't frozen on me a second time! Just once that first day.3 out of 3 users found this user opinion helpful.

Summary: My first phone was the original HTC G1. I was with HTC until my Evo 3D. I did enjoy HTC, but wanted a different Android experience from their Sense overlay. The one thing about Sense is that it made things easy to navigate, but it's also limited what you could customize on the Android platform. After a week of frustration reorienting myself with Jelly Bean, I can officially say that I enjoy Android without Sense more than with Sense.
I also got to say that the battery is amazing, and is another area of weakness with HTC handsets. I recommend this phone to anyone looking for something different.2 out of 2 users found this user opinion helpful.

Razr makes a stellar come-back, just wow!
by Matt3470 on March 27, 2013
Pros: - LOOOOONG battery life!
- Uncluttered Android 4.1 interface (almost stock).
- Very nice screen.
- Designed solid like a tank.
- Motorola Actions are great customization engine.
- Fast processor and lots of memory.Cons: - Camera quality is poor (typical of Motorola phones).
- SIM and micro-SD cards difficult to access.
- Quality of screen not the greatest.Summary: I can't say enough great things about this phone. Motorola has a hit with this phone! The design is about as close to Apple as you can get and ...
Summary: I can't say enough great things about this phone. Motorola has a hit with this phone! The design is about as close to Apple as you can get and still be Android--but this phone is far more durable than Apple phones are--and light years ahead of Samsung's cheap plastic! The Razr HD and HD Maxx just look good, and feel good, in the hand.
The battery life is absolutely the best of any Android phone I've ever used, hands down! Motorola's Actions app let's you take full control of your phone to even further maximize the battery life potential. Even on heavy use though, you won't drain this battery in a single day.
I will admit, the camera on this phone sucks. It's just cheap and of poor quality. I realize that Motorola went for durability and battery life here so they probably didn't think a good camera mattered--but for me it does--and if this phone had a good camera it'd be the perfect smartphone. The screen, while bright and large, doesn't have the best quality ever. There are other AMOLED screens that are far better in quality but even still this is a decent screen.
This phone is really just great overall and the fact that Motorola was wise and ditched "Moto Blur" and went with a nearly stock Android experience, just speaks to the quality thought put into this phone. People who travel and use their phone for long periods and people who are a little rough on their phones should really consider getting this phone... even though it's been out for quite a while now, it really can't be matched by any other Android phone in battery life and durability!2 out of 2 users found this user opinion helpful.

Love everything about the Droid Maxx, except the camera
by anjely9 on March 24, 2013
Pros: -AMAZINGLY long battery life. I go almost 3 days on a single charge with normal use, or 24 hours with high use.
-Great weight and screen size
-Tons of storage capacity and option to add more storage via micro usb
-mini and micro usb charging portsCons: -Camera quality is less than desired. Smart focus by default creates overly dark photos. Purple haze seen in center of image in some light conditions. Automatic white balance very poor.
Summary: Overall, I completely love my new Droid Razr Maxx. The battery life certainly was the major factor in my decision to buy this phone, and continues to be what I ...
Summary: Overall, I completely love my new Droid Razr Maxx. The battery life certainly was the major factor in my decision to buy this phone, and continues to be what I love about it most. I used to carry my charger 24/7 with my droid X, but now that's a thing of the past, and I can even stream movies for hours with no worries of a dead battery.
On the flip side, I do use my phone as my primary camera, and I have been very disappointed with the camera quality.2 out of 2 users found this user opinion helpful.

-Texting lags
-GPS does not work
-Circles that told time, date, battery life and temperature disappeared out of the ...Summary: Cons:
To be honest, I'd give this phone 0 if not -3 stars. Yes its the bad, and I thought my iPhone 3GS was bad, no this phone is by far the worse phone I've owned. First 2 weeks, yes was awesome! But u want a phone that is awesome the whole time I have it. That's why I say this phone is the worse phone I've had and why I give it 0 or -3 stars.
-Freezes constantly
-Frequent rebooting
-The autocorrect typing can get frustrating
-Texting lags
-GPS does not work
-Circles that told time, date, battery life and temperature disappeared out of the blue and won't come back (tried add them back on and rebooting, nothing)
-Lose signal (could be Verizon)
-Short battery life
-Facebook and internet don't always work
(2nd time I had to write a review on the phone, guess it didn't submit my last one)
-Screen constantly zooms in while I'm typing (especially on the internet)
-Spazzes out while I'm texting
-Doesn't always stay turned off or on locked
-Overheats
-Overly sensitive and touchy device
-Have to get a factory reset only after 4 months of use
There are a lot more cons, not worth writing though
Pros:
Great phone for the first 2 weeks
Had a great layout
Loved the options
Summary:
To be honest, when I first got this phone I'll admit it was amazing! Worked wonderfully, I was told it'd be the best of the best. It was recommended by several people. It was great for the first 2 weeks. But after the first 2 weeks were up, everything started going downhill. I noticed it froze a lot! And I was OK with it, nothing I hadn't dealt with before with a phone. But by January, I noticed I had to reboot it about 5x a day and that the keypad was overly sensitive. I'd press the n button once, lightly and my phone would type "nnnn" and of course you have to love autocorrect. Ug, this phones autocorrect is one of the weirdest autocorrects I've dealt with.
Anyway, all in all if you want to get this phone I wouldn't recommend it. Its not worth the $300 you spend on it. I'm going back to straight talk and getting a different phone. No more androids or iPhones for me. Smart phones are dumb phones. Just stay away from them. That's the best advice I can give you.
