The good: The Motorola Milestone XT720 features a sleek design and an 8-megapixel camera with HD video capture. The Android 2.1 device also offers the full gamut of wireless options.
The bad: The Milestone is sluggish at times. The camera has shutter lag, and picture quality could be better.
The bottom line: The Motorola Milestone XT720 is a full-featured and sleek Android smartphone, but it's rather underwhelming in the performance department.

Stay away - Phone has been abandoned by Motorola
by lagpie01 on January 5, 2011
Pros: - Very powerful hardware (lots of potential)
- Decent built
- Feels solid (but there's no case available for it)
- HDMI output (kind of)Cons: - Built for 2.3, but stuck on 2.1
- Very slow camera
- EXTREMELY small internal memory
- Pretty much useless alreadySummary: Like others have said already (and let it be a lesson for me never to buy anything before reading the review on CNET), this high end phone has been abandoned ...
Summary: Like others have said already (and let it be a lesson for me never to buy anything before reading the review on CNET), this high end phone has been abandoned by its manufacturer. There will be no update and no upgrade to its operating system EVER. The phone has spectacular hardware, but it uses only 50% of it because it runs Android 2.1.
Well well well... While Motorola wasn't willing to make this phone more usable, and even went as far as encrypting the bootloader to make it harder to develop custom ROMs for it, some people found a way to fix the problem.
Of course, the paranoid management team at Motorola also locked and encrypted the bootloader, which basically means that no hacker in the world has been able to change the ROM and update the phone. Don't be foolish and hope for something that won't happen, the phone is forever locked in 2.1, and Motorola has ignored (so far) the THOUSANDS of postings asking for an upgrade. In short, if you buy this phone, you're encouraging Motorola to treat their customers like dirt.
So, to resume: phone COULD be great, but unfortunately, will never be. it's "abandonware" from Motorola. Don't waste your money on this...

You can now have Android 2.2 , otherwise known as Froyo in this phone. It really brings the device to life! For more news about it, or instructions, please visit:

Its better than a Blackberry Curve
by CinciBellCustomer on September 14, 2010
Pros: The web browsing, applications, and spead (it has a 750 mhz processor) make it a strong messaging phone for a business user.
Cons: The camera lags about a second behind the click, which is odd. And for 8 megapixels, the image is not that sharp. But the real con is that it is on Cincinnati Bell, which means that it may not get a 2.2 upgrade, or any other update or upgrade.
Summary: If you are stuck on a Cincinnati Bell contract, this is probably the best phone they offer. I quickly got over the touch screen typing (I was a curve user ...

Motorola abandoned this phone it will not get Froyo 2.1
by thecroztm on January 2, 2011
Pros: Potentially a good phone if it had Android 2.2 which it doesn't and won't because Motorola abandoned this phone.
Cons: It is stuck on Android 2.1 and is therefore virtually useless because you cannot add more than a few third party apps. It will never run Flash.
Summary: I wouldn't buy this phone again, or ANY Motorola phone after this kind of treatment. It's shameful.

Phone abandoned by Moto; no 2.2 froyo software upgrade
by jk782 on December 7, 2010
Pros: Very nice and powerful phone. Small and works well. Great camera. Love the hardware.
Cons: Was advertised as flash-ready, but cannot run flash. Will not receive 2.2 Froyo. Lacks app2sd with small internal memory, limiting installed apps severely. The bootloader is cryptographically locked so community 2.2 froyo ROM's are not possible.
Summary: This phone is clearly designed for 2.2 Froyo and was marketed as a high-end phone; however, after indicating otherwise Motorola has now decided that this phone will stay at ...
Summary: This phone is clearly designed for 2.2 Froyo and was marketed as a high-end phone; however, after indicating otherwise Motorola has now decided that this phone will stay at 2.1 Eclair (and to rub salt in the wound also that the older, lower-spec'd, cheaper original Milestone will receive 2.2).
It's a great phone but desperately needs Froyo's app2sd and improved JIT. Adobe released flash for froyo and higher, so this phone does not have flash (advertisements indiciated that the XT720 would have flash). Very disappointed that Motorola has decided to not release froyo. Since they have abandoned this phone (after only a few months on the market), Motorola should unlock the bootloader (but they won't).
Don't buy this phone unless it does exactly what you want out of the box and you are happy with its performance.2 out of 2 users found this user opinion helpful.

this phone IS NOT $4.29 a green cloth case is....
by eeee on February 11, 2013
Pros: turns out every review is negative on this phone so I wont buy it anyway..looking for a deal on an unlocked used Atrix HD phone right now
Cons: Just saying; the Shopper.com listing for $4.29 for this phone is wrong since the listed $4.29 prices is for a lame cloth case for the phone and not the phone itself
Summary: Seems the web master goofed and linked a wrong Amazon item to the phone when in reality it is not the phone it is the case that sells for $4....

Do not buy this phone

stuck in Android 2.1, at least in North America
camera response is slow
battery life is very poor
reception is poorSummary: I spent a lot of time deciding which phone to buy, and ended up with this Motorola, thinking the manufacturer had a good name and that the product would be ...
Summary: I spent a lot of time deciding which phone to buy, and ended up with this Motorola, thinking the manufacturer had a good name and that the product would be good. It came out only a couple of years ago, I thought, and surely there would be an update very soon. The screen size was good, the overall presentation nice. It looked like the best choice of the phones my service provider had on offer in the Spring of 2011.
Well, Motorola had already abandoned this phone by that time, owners were annoyed, and somehow I didn't read the right reviews, or didn't believe them. I may never buy another Motorola product again because of this experience.
I'm very careful now how I use the phone. Engaging the camera or the web browser or the map function can easily cause the phone to lock up. Frequently, I will start the map app and it will almost immediately return to the home screen because the app has crashed. The same is true of the web browser (and this time I can't blame it on Flash, because no Flash implementation exists for anything before Froyo, and Motorola won't let me update the OS!). Frequently, I will start the camera and find that it wedges as I'm taking the second photo (which is another entertainment: it takes so long for the photo to be taken - several seconds - that I often think it's finished, move the camera, and then end up taking a picture of my hand!). I'm assuming that many of these problems are memory related, but I have no proof for that.
As for reception: There are probably only a half dozen places in my house where I can use my phone, and I haven't heard anyone else complaining about not getting service. (No, I'm not trying to use it in my basement, but if I move a few feet from my front door, I might not get service.)
Oh well, after I move on to another phone, maybe I'll console myself by listening to the built-in radio (works reasonably well, as long as you have your headphones/ear buds plugged in to act as an antenna). -
Not very reliable.
by fat_tony638 on September 30, 2011
Pros: Lots of great features and easy to use.
Cons: VERY sluggish and the battery life is real bad. I literally have to plug it every single night so it doesn't die in the afternoon.
I've also had problems when I tried connecting it to my laptop and using the media link software from motorola's website. T -
would not recommend
by mastermat99 on August 15, 2011
Pros: Theres not much except the 8 megapixel camera with the xenon flash.
Cons: Lots of bugs! With average use the processor is overloaded and completely freezes. The only way to fix this back is to take out the battery, and sometimes it does it many times in a row which makes it such a pain to use. This is because of the actual phon
