The first smartphone that truly rivals iPhone
by digitaltangerine on March 23, 2010
Pros: Lightning fast, Brilliant screen resolution, pinch & stretch screen, layout & functionality, Android 2.0
Cons: Charging cord is a bit short, a handier 'power on' button would be nice

Summary: In short, this is the first phone that I've seen which legitimately exceeds the iPhone experience. I've been searching for something to rival my wife's 3G-S iPhone, but always found that the available choices didn't quite rival what Apple offered. This phone, however, not only rivals her iPhone ... it exceeds the entire experience. The huge screen is brilliant in it's resolution and colors. The applications are lightning fast. Android's new 2.0 OS is finally on par with Apple and brings all the fuctionality that I'd been waiting for such as pinch and stretch screens, a really slick media gallery that is a pleasure to use, and very intuitive layouts for everything from the dialer to your messaging. I'm quite literally in awe of what a step up this is from my recent HTC Dream. From my understanding, this phone is basically a rebranded Droid - except that it includes a lot of functionality that Droid does not ( such as pinch screen just to name one very nice item ). Great job Motorola!

Ehh, I like and don't like

Pros: camera was good, and video was HD quality
Cons: Android 2.1, you can ONLY save Apps to phone.
Battery could really be better

Summary: I got this phone from a buddy in the UK, and hooked it up on EDGE data on ATT. Was VERY happy with it for the first 4 months of owning it, and couldn't imagine a better phone. I could do my emails, read texts, and play music at the same time. I could GO ON THE WEB and stay in a phone convo at the same time. Just was amazing and the phone didn't limit what I did.
The first issue I encountered was the battery. It barely lasted 8 hours, and that's with background syncing and all that stuff backlight all that turned down. You'd be lucky to get 1 hour at best if all that was on. I got the extended battery, and when it helped, it somehow made my screen go nuts. No joke, put the old one in and the device screen works and never an issue. The extended battery, it scrolls, clicks n things, and the landscape mode didn't work. Motorola tech support recommended a full reset, so I had to set up everything once more.
The next issue I had was the music player integration. I can BLUETOOTH myself MP3 songs that AUTOMATICALLY are stored to the 8GB factory included SD card (finally), but they do not have any sort of identification. It says the track name- but with the track number, they are only in numeric order for example 01-"Only Time" The album names for everything that is Bluetoothed over is Bluetooth. It doesn't drag over the album name, and the artist simply reads unknown. I tried the USB with the same result, so i guess it's not all the bluetooth.
And while the ANDROID 2.1.1 Android operating system is a joy to use, you cannot save APPS to your SD card. This leads to small lagginess, such as Angry Birds, takes literally 2 minutes to fling the next bird. As far as I was told, processor speed has nothing do with this, and as this was a premium phone, I'd think it had a good processor in it.
Overall:
It wows, but it could be better. Do I recommend it, yes, somewhat, if it can have it's issues fixed. I guess if you don't mind the SD issue it'd be a perfect phone, but unfortunately I decided it was something I didn't want to use and upgraded. -
Overall, overpriced for the end result
by resu eman on December 22, 2010
Pros: Very good GPS reception. Good MotoNav navigation application, even if it costs 70 euros.
Feels solid in its construction.
Solid slide keyboard. Fell confortable and easy to type in.
Nice acessories: multimedia mount and car support for GPS use.Cons: Terrible camera quality.
Became glitchy after a couple of months.
Terrible keyboard support for non English writers.
No Video Call support.
The Android OS is still poor in features.
Motorola apps are poor and you have to pay for everything.Summary: Overall, the only thing is truly like is the GPS reception and the MotoNav application. Even if it cost 70 euros, which seems a bit overpriced.

The rest is just a big disappointment:
- Terrible camera quality, even if it is 5mp.
- Don't know if it is the OS or the phone, but became glitchy after a couple of months.
- Terrible keyboard support for non English writers (doesn't support accentuations). Hardly use the slide keyboard because of that.
- Android's keyboard is not better. Add to buy an application for typing. That app saved my life.
- No Video Call support, which seems absurd for a phone this expensive.
- The Android OS is still poor in comparison to Nokia's phones features, for example.
- Motorola apps are quite poor and on top of that you have to buy "pro" versions to get more than extremely basic capacibilities. At least Nokia gives you good applications for free.
In short, as with all Motorola products, you think you're getting a lot of features for what you're paying and you realize you're just getting a mediocre implementation of those features.
As for Android, it still has some road to walk. I moved from Nokia because I became unhappy with their smart phones, but now I see they provide a lot of features for the buck, even if they're losing market share. -
Rock Solid!
by monsterduc1000 on December 8, 2010
Pros: This phone has great build quality, great reception, fast for apps and internet, overall a fantastic product!!!
Cons: Update schedule hear in Canada is something to be desired, but that is Telus's fault, not anyone else's as the droid (the same phone in the states) and milestones in many other regions have already been updated to 2.2, 2.3 looks unlikely.
Summary: Fantastic phone with great build quality and very user friendly, but needs a better update schedule. Currently running 2.1.1.

Very pleased with the Milestone!!
by proverb31_1ab on October 16, 2010
Pros: Tank quality construction which will cause it to hold up great. Huge screen. Resolution is awesome!! Camera is very good quality. Sound is great, keyboard is huge. Happy w/ my purchase and don't know why I ever waited to switch from the BB.
Cons: Tank quality construction which makes it a bit on the heavy side. It is a large phone so going from a BB to this takes some acclimation.

Summary: I am the kind of person who scours the internet for reviews 6 months to a year before I purchase any electronic. Especially a cell phone since my carrier requires a 2 year contract to get the free phone. Bottom line: I should have never waited on making the switch from my BB to this Milestone Android. Yes it is bulky and heavy but I think what's on the inside more than makes up for what's on the outside. I LOVE this phone. Definitely a good choice!!

If you want a PDA, this is for you. Phone doesn't work
by Joann50s on August 11, 2010
Pros: The screen resolution is good, the speed is good, the camera is great and the volume is good. The apps are fun, BUT....
Cons: The phone aspect stinks. You can't hear the person calling. The person can't hear you. The voices go "digital" sounding, they fade in and out, there is a bad echo and dropped calls. I have been told the issues are not even aknowledged by Motorola.
Summary: I have been told the issues are not even aknowledged by Motorola. You would think a leading company would have come up with a fix before lesser known companies. HTC ...
Summary: I have been told the issues are not even aknowledged by Motorola. You would think a leading company would have come up with a fix before lesser known companies. HTC has already updated their Droid issues and let it be known they are working to make the phone better... without having to buy another upgraded phone (Droid X). Motorola, please listen to the public and release a fix or you will loose all credability. There is already a joke going around. If a person can't hear me on the phone, they ask if its a Motorola Milestone! WAKE UP! ! ! ! ! ! ! Buy another brand of Droid or Android because It appears Motorola cares less about the customer support, than just making a buck and running.

Excellent piece of hardware with disappointing software
by chillwind on May 18, 2010
Pros: Excellent screen with pinch and zoom capability, nice big keyboard, great camera, and many other features. Internet browser is excellent.
Cons: Horrible email software. No support for IMAP (only POP), no ability to sync directly to a desktop email client (e.g. Outlook) without purchasing $40 app. If you don't have MS exchange acct, you're forced to get Gmail address. Tethering is difficult.
Summary: In terms of hardware, I think this is the best phone on the market. It is really a joy to use. My only complaint on the hardware is that the ...
Summary: In terms of hardware, I think this is the best phone on the market. It is really a joy to use. My only complaint on the hardware is that the battery life is not great, but its not bad either.
However, I was told when I bought it from a local Telus retailer that it would sync directly with Outlook no problem and that it would tether, no problem. The real story is, if you want to sync your calendar, contacts, and email with Outlook, you either have to have an MS exchange account, a GMail account, or purchase a $40 app that apparently is full of bugs. I already have 3 email addresses and do not need or want a Gmail account. Also the email software does not support IMAP (only POP), so if you download and/or reply to email on your phone, it doesn't register on your other device (e.g. desktop computer). There isn't even an ability to enter an automatic email signature (e.g. "sent from my mobile"). Totally pathetic. Also, tethering is very difficult and requires you to purchase a $30 app.
In hindsight I would have been way better off with an iPhone.
If you don't have a Gmail address and don't want to be forced into getting one, then don't buy this phone or any other Android device. Get a Blackberry or an iPhone. -
