The good: The Motorola Ming A1200 is a functional smartphone with a stylish, compact design and satisfying call quality. The feature set offers a decent range of options, including stereo Bluetooth, world phone support, a business card reader, and a media player.
The bad: The Motorola Ming A1200's interface was occasionally sluggish and the call volume tended to be low. Its virtual keyboard is tiny and the microSD card slot is in an inconvenient location. Also, it lacks 3G and Wi-Fi, and the internal memory is quite low.
The bottom line: Though it lacks some key data features, the Motorola Ming A1200 is a unique and user-friendly smartphone that delivers on call quality.

Summary: The phone is very sexy, connectivity and program download not fast but impressive because viruses incorporated in the programs has effect on the phones performance. The multi media (movies in converted RM files)can compete with leading Ipod video. The video recording althought at 20fps but the night mode capability is superb compared with some high end dedicated camcoder. My 1 gig micro SD can hold up to 10 movie series, such as Prison break, Heroes, and 24. The sond is also good. The games can play a need4speed but need some improvements of the progam because its uses the 5 navigational stick which is so tiny to operate. Its the best for addordable price.

Summary: It's a real nice phone. It has quite a lot of features and I'm happy with the product overall. The sound is good, and I like the PC software that came with it. The only problem I've had was to do with the MSN messenger application. It appears to be written in Chinese, and there is no English language support from what I can see. I probably just need to download an english version, but it's annoying nontheless. I find the phone gets covered in finger print marks reallt easily, although you can rectify that by purchasing an external phone casing. One thing I found was that random applications would open if I left the phone in my pocket whilst on the move; perhaps the flip part had managed to touch the screen and open up the calendar or something, I don't really know. Otherwise it's a great phone, and the touch screen is very responsive and accurate. I did find that the Internet was very slow loading though.

Summary: I used a Treo 680 (which I still have) and which I loved because of the hundreds of third party applications that I could install. One day I lost the charger and battery, so I kept it into a drawer.
Then someone gave me a Treo 700w as birthday present... what a step backwards!, I couldn't stand the Windows interface on a phone.
So one day I was offered the chance to buy the A1200. I was instantly in love. The looks of this phone are spectacular. The OS is Linux, which means I can tweak it and people are making modifications and extending the OS all the time so I can update it regardless of Motorola.
While using it, I noticed I can have up to 7 hours of talk time without recharging, a great difference compared to my Treos.
The screen is beatiful, and the address book and other PDA-like applications included make it a nice PDA replacement. The stylus and touchscreen are just the crown's jewels. I love it!. Recommended even for beginners who don't know what Linux is.
Did I say the camera is short of spectacular?. -

Summary: This is one slick looking phone! There are 3 color choices(for now). Black, white, and red. The red looks a bit on the feminine side, in my opinion, with it's silver inlay around the screen. The white is a bit better with the flat black inlay which offsets it very well. Still it seemed a bit "metro", and God forbid you drop it as it has a glossy finish. The black was, again in my opinion, the sharpest of the three. It has a flat finish that almost feels rubberized. The crome hinge and side panels offset the black in a very classy way. This phone is the update to the Motorola A780 which I also own. As I stated in my review of that phone, it is a great phone, but a bit on the bulky side for my taste. This new installment gaines a FM tuner, a 2MP camera, a business card scanner, a higher resolution screen, and a faster processor. What it loses is the Edge technology, for some unknown reason, and the keypad. I must admit I bought my A1200 for the size difference alone. I was very happy with the features and performance of my A780, but the girth was driving me insane. The A1200 is much smaller than the A780, much to my delight, and I am not missing the keypad as much as I thought I would. The voice recognition does not seem as responsive as with the A780, but it does work. It still has the digitized male voice responce that I wish they had updated, but maybe next time. The real player is excellent, and the FM radio is a welcome addition. As a digital camera owner, I dont usually take pictures with my cellphone, but with the quality of this new screen I may have to start snapping. The business card scanner is a cool feature which will view a business card and automatically place the name and numbers into the corresponding catagories of the phonebook. Impressive! Just make sure you have adequate lighting before you show off or you will be embarrassed! Overall this is my faverite phone/PDA yet!!!

Moto hater becomes Moto LOVER!
For months I was telling a friend about my experiance with the Motorola A780. He had vowed to hate Motorola for life, but said he could no longer hold out for the forthcoming Sony Ericson P990 which he desired. We looked and various touchscreen phones that were available and I told him the A1200 was a nice update to my A780. With a bit of hesitation he finally broke down and purchased a white A1200. This so called hater could not be happier! He can't stop raving about this phone, and thanks me for convincing him to buy a Motorola product. I know he talks alot when he gets happy, but I will be holding him to the dinner he promised me! -
Great phone, but touch screen is limiting

Pros: The phone is packed with a lot of great features. The featrues range from an audio player, 2.0mp camera with macro to even a business card reader.
Cons: The touch screen is very limiting. Text messaging and compiling email/mms messages become a chore if you are a freqent message writer.

Features like the design and the camera were very impressive, but for me, input methods were too much work... Also, since the phone is a linux based model, there is not a lot of support for 3rd party software.

Summary: I loved the design and the call quality but couldn't get the hang olf what buttons to push to get it to perform. When I did learn the procedures, it seemed like every function required multiple key input. Also, the phone would make all types of noises as if it were alerting you to something but I couldn't find the event. I was used to a Treo so that was a factor. I gave the A1200 back and traded for a 8525. Now that is a great piece of equipment.

Summary: I upgraded from a MPx220 to the new A1200 MING and what a difference. The touch screen is easy to navigate and much more visable than my MPx220. It gets much better reception in weak signal areas and the convient voice commands are much more comprehensive. Plus the Linnux OS is twice as fast than the Win Mobile OS. This is one smart package and it's great looking too. This also has ADP2 Bluetooth Stereo so you can listen to music and do hands free calling on the same device (HS820) Brilliant!
