The good: The Nokia 5800 Navigation Edition offers voice-guided navigation with text-to-speech functionality, 3D landmarks, and premium content, all for free. Ovi Maps provides accurate directions and doesn't require a data connection. The handset also offers Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, 3G, and a 3.2-megapixel camera.
The bad: Route recalculations are slow and positioning was frequently off by at least half a block. User interface is a bit confusing at first.
The bottom line: As one of the more affordably priced handsets from the company, the Nokia 5800 Navigation Edition is a good value, offering road warriors a midlevel device with decent navigation skills and the freedom of an unlocked phone.

Great Phone,Great Value
by rsu0919 on February 9, 2010
Pros: WiFi, Accurate GPS, good music player,fm radio, and a really good phone too.
Cons: Only complaint is scrolling through contacts a bit jerky.

Summary: You can't beat the features on this phone for the money. Got mine for $240 less $50 rebate. Been away from Nokia for a few year because AT&T doesn't carry anything but lower end Nokias. Finally decided not to upgrade through att and get a decent unlocked phone. Have used the gps without data next to a garmin nuvi 200 and they were constantly within a few feet of each other when announcing turns. Never had more than a minute or two to get a sat lock. The music player sounds great and I like the fm radio. I really don,t surf the web to much but the wifi lets me update maps and software. Don't care much for the browser, but installed opera mini and for what browsing I do it works pretty good. The call quality is excellent. Battery life is lower than stated in the specs, but after the newness wore off and I quit playing with the phone I get about 4 to 5 hours talk time. Decent battery life for a smartphone. Overall a great phone.Best bang for the buck.

Summary: Its not even been a year since i bought this phone .....at start the fone was too good. The sound quality is superb and god looking too but in recent times the phone has got a disease of hanging up. This really freaks me out I mean its not been a year and our SMARTPHONE hangs.. what the hell is this. And the fone has got very slow too I think the old software in it is the sole reason. And anyone who is thinking of buying this phone must take its thought out and opt for a Andriod phone rather than a Symbian.

Value destroyed by lousy software
by guyshomenet2 on September 2, 2010
Pros: Lots of pre-packaged value
Cons: All value destroyed by software that plain doesn't work
Summary: Syncing the phone with your PC and Outlook requires Ovi Suite, which has been a disaster. My calendar has not synced for 6+ weeks and Nokia "support" doesn't. If ...

Fine for the 1st year now I cannot use it
by Kalumn on July 8, 2010
Pros: The touch screen is pretty good. It is easy to navigate around the phone. Nokia functions are easy to use
Cons: The camera isn't that great compared to my previous nokia. After just over a year it started to play up, rendering the screen unusable, therefore the phone.
Summary: It only played up every now & then in the beginning, but after a month or so it is now completely useless. Once the screen locked, it greyed out with ...
Summary: It only played up every now & then in the beginning, but after a month or so it is now completely useless. Once the screen locked, it greyed out with vertical & horzontal lines. It now does it continuously & only after playing with the phone for a bout 10 or 15 mintues does it clear. It then seems to be fine while I am using it but as soon as I stop it does it again. Not the best smartphone on the market compared to what is out currently available & I think Nokia are losing their hold on the market when it comes to these phones. It is very disappointing that their phones use to last for a long time & now they barely make it past a year.

I haven't had one problem
by mongusman on May 15, 2010
Pros: Have owned his phone for almost a year and love everything about it, the gps finds itself within seconds of opening the app and reroutes fast if I can't make the turn, I use the phone for music instead of ipod and sounds great, also love the wifi.
Cons: Keep losing the stylus.
Summary: The only issue I have had with the phone is I forget to close apps and end up with a bunch open and bog down the phone, but you're ...

Nav relocation takes long time.Touch screen takes time.
by azinternational on April 15, 2010
Pros: Good price below $300.00 including taxes 03/2010 for a handset that has lots of features. Good look and light. Comes with a nice Car Mount.
Cons: Navigation takes long time to relocate. Touch screen responds slow. DROPS CALLS.
Summary: Overall a good handset with free navigation for $279+taxes= $298.00+-. Nokia has a good reputation. Nokia.com has included a Nokia Bluetooth in the package. Bluetooth gets ...

Love-Hate relationship
by jcolingham on March 21, 2010
Pros: Multi tasking, Symbian OS, GPS, and call quality were all awesome and functional. The phone fits well in the hand and the screen is absolutely beautiful!
Cons: The resistive touch screen is not very responsive and the GPS does miss a beat on rare occasion. North America gets snubbed on european updates to the phone. The camera is ok but video is terrible.
Summary: The phone does slow down when you do more than one thing at a time, that being said, it is a perfect interlude into how this phone feels. It is ...
Summary: The phone does slow down when you do more than one thing at a time, that being said, it is a perfect interlude into how this phone feels. It is not responsive. This is a combination of the now antiquated Symbian OS, the touch screen, small amount of RAM, and the diminutive processor. It really shows why Apple choose to not allow multi-tasking in their iPhones. With Navigation, the WORLD WIDE onboard maps greatly make up for this. The fact that maps are stored means the function rivals Google's new Maps 4.1! Crazy! The sound quality of music using either headphones or the stereo speakers is the best I have heard from a cell phone. Customer support is second to Apple! fast turnaround times on the warrantee and they gave me a $10 gift credit card!
My unit broke with in 4 months of purchase while being in a Commuter OtterBox. It was probably due to overheating despite the fact I ONLY used it for texting, as I use my iPhone for internet, calls, and email. Nokia was quick to replace it but not as seamlessly as Apple wold be (still using my original iPhone 3GS from release day).
The interface needs the new Symbian update, and even then, I fear it may be a lost cause in North America. We like curves and sex appeal. The N900 hit this note but was not introduced through advertising or carriers and 99% of americans have never heard of it.
With Android, Windows Mobile 7, and the tentative iPhone OS 4.0, we are likely to lose track of Symbian on this side of the lake.
Overall, the 5800 Nav is roughly the same quality of build as my old Blackberry Pearl 8100 and not even as well built as the BB 8320. I liked it for some features but do not recommend it to everyone.
