The good: The Nokia E62 boasts a vibrant and sharp screen, a full QWERTY keyboard, and a full array of wireless options (Bluetooth, UMTS). The Symbian smart phone also has solid call quality, a speakerphone, the ability to view and edit Office documents, and robust e-mail capabilities.
The bad: The Nokia E62's miniSD slot is located inconveniently behind the battery cover, and the device was sometimes sluggish when switching between apps. There's no camera option, either.
The bottom line: The Nokia E62 certainly isn't for everyone, but with its powerful productivity apps, connectivity options, and solid call quality, the smart phone will make a good addition to a corporate user's arsenal.

Great Personal Smart Phone
by eegb81 on October 15, 2006
Pros: Excellent call quality, Excellent Overall Smart Phone
Cons: A Very Basic PDA, No Wifi, Takes a while to switch from applications

Summary: I have been a TREO 650 user since September 2005. I decided switching to Nokia E62 since the TREO is very unstable (often needs restart) and has poor call quality. Treo 650 has many great features and software as a PDA, but it surely isn't a good phone at all.
I have only used the E62 for 2 days and yes, I am very impressed by its performance. This smartphone's call quality is unbelievable (excellent). The call quality is clear and loud, and pairing with my Plantronics 645 is easy. I am happy that I can now have conversations while driving with my Bluetooth headset as my friends and callers can hear me and have not said " Are you driving because I can't hear what you are saying?" It was a problem when I was using my TREO.
I also enjoy the many features that Nokia provides as a phone manufacturer. For example, I can restrict my caller ID from the device if I choose to do so. E62 has an outstanding battery life. I charged the phone on Thursday and I have only use two bars of my battery life (Sunday morning). I do not have a problem with not having a camera since most camera phones have poor image quality and I do not take pictures on my phone.
Another feature that Nokia provides is the Nokia Web Browser. I enjoy the simplicity of the Nokia Browser and how user friendly it is. Nokia Browser allows me to navigate with a small screen to a particular section of the webpage rather than only scrolling with a mouse.
It would have been great if the phone has a Wifi.
E62 is a very basic PDA. E62 has a great address book where you can keep different phone numbers including pagers, fax, telephone, mobile, and email. It allows me to assign ring tones and picture to my contacts. It also allows me to send touch tones (pin numbers for prepaid phone cards etc.) while calling.
The calendar features on E62 cannot be compared with Treo 650 or most Palm calendar software. I was using DateBook on the Treo 650 and it has so much more functions that the basic E62 calendar. That is THE ONLY THING I miss from my Treo 650. Does anyone have any suggestion on Symbian calendar software that I can install on my E62?
The email capability on this device is very basic. I have set up my phone where it checks for emails every hour and I can connect the server manually when I want to check my email. This works for me as I am not an intensive email user while on the road. If you are looking for a comprehensive email device, I suggest that you do some research about the capabilities provided by E62 to find out whether it will meet your needs.
One of the negative aspects of E62 is that it is slow when opening or switching between applications. It is not a major problem for me since I prefer it to be slow while being stable rather that fast and unreliable.
Lastly, here are my reasons why I chose E62 over Q, Blackberry Pearl or T-Mobile Dash.
E62 vs Q: I have heard from friends and other professional reviews that Q has been very unstable and is not doing extremely well in the market. In addition, I live in a city where there is no Verizon. I heard that Cingular was going to launch Q in January but I have also recently heard that they might not be carrying that device anymore (based on hear say).
E62 vs Blackberry Pearl: I went to a local T-Mobile store and was very impressed by its size and design. The reasons I did not get the phone are 1) it does not have a full QWERTY keyboard and uses the SureType keyboard. I really appreciate the QWERTY keyboard that Treo and E62 offer since it is faster to type the word by yourself rather than having to type the letters, scroll to the correct word, then select it on a SureType Keyboard. 2) I did not purchase this phone because it is on the T-Mobile network. I have been a user of T-Mobile network in the past and was not pleased with the network performance at all. (If you like T-Mobile, you should check out this device.) Thirdly, CNET comments that the call quality is subpar (below average).
E62 vs T- Mobile Dash: I was very impressed by the review given by CNET. Yet, I was not impressed by the design on Dash. I agree with other reviewers that HTC needs to learn from Nokia and Motorola when it comes to Smart Phone designs. In addition, I am not a fan of Windows Mobile. I am a proud user of Mac and cannot see anything-good coming out of the Windows Mobile. I do not want to get myself frustrated with my smartphone since I am often dismay by the performance of my Dell XP laptop. Finally, since it is launched on a T-Mobile Network, I was not pleased with the network performance when I was with T-Mobile.
That said, I think all of us will have our own preferences when it comes to smartphones (Q, Treo, Dash, and Blackberry Pearl). It is important to get a phone that will work and is convenient for you. Here is what I have discovered about Smart Phones: It needs to be a reliable phone before it is a PDA. If not, it is not worth it at all. I am well pleased with the E62 and will update this review in the upcoming months.32 out of 33 users found this user opinion helpful.

Summary: I'm a long time Crackberry user and as fate would have it, lost it on a business trip. When I went to the Cingular store, I was informed that the E62 was just released that day. I've owned it for a week now and I can honestly say it's better than my Crackberry 8700c. It supports not only my Crackberry mail, but numberous other push mail protocols. I love that the voice recognition dialing is very accurate. The only thing that I don't like is Cingular's SLOW EDGE network and not WiFi. If you're looking for a PDA phone, the E62 is a steal at $199-$50 rebate.

Great Phone: Some Details Missing
by pankajparikh on October 2, 2006
Pros: Great Web Browser, Big Screen, Nokia Call Quality
Cons: Camera may have made a best of both worlds, email client needs more feature

2. I have configured it to use blackberry email client and i use the cingular blackberry connect service. The setup was a breeze.
3. I am not sure if I can use some of the email functions that i had on my black berry eg. how do I scroll page up /down on my email messages? How do i search within email messages etc.
4. I am not sure if a standard nokia car charger will work or do i have to buy one specific for this one?
5. The ONLY problem i have with the phone (again comparing with blackberry) is that every time I open an email, it displays that annoying 'Opening' picture with the gears and takes time even to open previously opened emails. Any work around that?
6. I have my daughter's picture as the wallpaper and my favourite songs loaded as well, these extra's a business phone are welcome.
Overall a very nice device.Updated
Well..i wrote a very nice (spectacular rating) after 24 hrs of owning the device..72 hrs later..i am far less convinced and here is why
1. Software/Firmware: I think is the big problem. This thing is SLOW. After I press the address book button there is a perceptible time lag. Similarly every time i open an email it takes time, same thing with calling any app. Also i had an mp3 setup as my ringer and though its a nice feature, it has very poor performance and it takes time for the ringer to ring.
2. The speakerphone is very unpredictable and the call volume drops and picks
3. One thing i was counting on with Nokia was the call reception and i am surprisingly disappointed. I have had atleast 2-4 occasions in last 48 hours where incoming calls have directly gone to VM without ringing.
I am having second thoughts and may return and settle for a 8700c (still an upgrade from my existing 7290) ..Others please share your thoughts and viewsUpdated
Please see my previous 'opinion' on this site. I have gone from being total blown away by the phone to 'second thoughts'. 1) The software (on my phone at least) seems a little sluggish and this is the biggest disappointment.
There is missing information on a lot of features. Anyone with details please share:
1. How to use the navigation (GPS) feature.
2. How to edit messages while forwarding
3. My bluetooth (Motorola headset)..works and then doesn't work
any words of wisdom?
The multimedia features (pictures, big screen and MP3) have made me stick to this Nokia B'Barry so far. Lets see how far!9 out of 10 users found this user opinion helpful.

Best call quality available with Cingular

Summary: This phone is the best phone I've owned while a Cingular customer. As I'm sure all Cingular customers are aware, Cingular reception and call quality is mediocre at best. With the E-62, call quality has increased significantly. I've owned a Razor and Treo 650 while a Cingular customer and have never been able to receive reception in my office; until now. The screen is bright and colorful with a large display making surfing the web an almost laptop experience. This phone has great functionality depth and if the owner is willing to take the time to learn the device; the payoff is rewarding. The only downside I've experienced thus far is email support. It offers more support for Enterprise/Corporate users than it does for personal use. The only real option for personal use is Blackberry Connect/Blackberry Internet Service which is suppose to push your personal emails from your ISP directly to your device. Unfortunately my experience has been a 30-45 minute latency between which the email is received by my ISP and the actually pushed to the device. Granted my ISP is AOL which has a history of being extremely proprietary with their service. I can assume the glitch is on their end because my Gmail account seems to be pushing just fine. When I contacted Cingular to trouble shoot the email problem, they were clueless as always and had no idea as to what was causing the problem. This phone is great for both the business user and personal user. The form factor is sleek and sexy and the materials used are superior to any other phone I've owned. No cheap plastic housing here. Unfortunately the phone kit does not come with a clip and so far I haven't been able to find one except for the usual leather case. I think a Blackberry like case would do well with this phone. Overall I highly recommend this phone to anyone.

Motorola WHO???
by vesu0073 on November 1, 2006
Pros: Great screen, supports editing attachments, music player, Blackberry too!

Summary: I have had this phone for about a month now after having a Blackberry 7130. Let me tell you that this phone is awesome. The internet browser is top notch. You can zoom out so you don't have to scroll around as much and still keep the look of the website intact. It also allows having multiple pages (a la IE or Firefox) up at once. For an EDGE speed device it's pretty quick. The media player in it is good as well (the loudspeaker was surprisingly good) and if you're savvy you can get streaming video on it. For the $100 that Cingular is selling it for now (after $100 mail-in), this is a steal of a PDA. It's layout is great, it's a ton more substantial than that Q, and it supports BES and BIS for Blackberry. If you get this device, you will NOT be disappointed. I only wish that it would support stereo Bluetooth output since it has the media player. Make sure to email Nokia about this if you buy one so we can create enough stir for a firmware upgrade. Oh, and the memory card placement is not the end of the world. If you pull the backplate off, it's right there (not under the battery). Enjoy!

Terrible user interface makes me wanna return the phone

Summary: I have been using Tmobile sidekick for almost 2 years, played with treo for about 20 days before buying this phone. So major part about my review would be a comparison with sidekick.
I loved my sidekick. I am a college student and wanted a cool device which can be used to access internet, get mails but at the same time not be too expensive. Blackberries are good but too expensive for personal use. Sidekick came between 'normal' phones and blackberries so I was very happy about it. Unfortunately after a good swim in my friends pool with my sidekick, I had to start shopping for better phones. Sidekick III was too expensive ($400 yikes) and did not have a lot of features to be worth that much.
Sidekick push email was awesome. Configuring it was very easy, and the mail client had the best user interface. The price was right ($20 per month). E62's email client sucks.
For a week I tried using the XPress mail with pull feature so that I can save $20 for the data plan but sacrificing on the push email feature. The client itself was absolutely useless. It would take more than 15 mins to for any email to hit the device but, for some weird buggy feature, clear the previously downloaded email list after each fetch. The device would have fetched and cleared the list of emails every 15 mins, making me wonder every morning why did I even invest so much on this. Frustrated, I had to download the blackberry internet service which does a push email. Blackberry setup was quite tricky and a 2 hour troubleshoot call with cingular folks and about 10hrs fight with the device was I able to get the push email working. It worked but not upto my expectations and I have to pay $40 per month on the data support bring my monthly bill to $80.
The user interface on the email client is a joke. I cannot skip thru multiple emails at a time. Deleting an email will take me to the main mail page and I have to do an extra click to goto the next email. (Deleting an email on sidekick would automatically goto to the next email. I could goto the next/prev emails by clicking the side buttons without going back to homepage) The client does not automatically give links to phone numbers and urls in the email. After highlighting the phone/url, one has to click on options button, scroll using the joystick to the option of calling/opening url for it to work. It also does not support an auto-complete feature which sidekick had for email address. I have to click on options, add from contacts search thru the address book to add address. This is pretty frustrating.
All the above cons would have even been bearable had the phone been a little more responsive. The phone is really slow. It feels like I am running winXP on a 386 machine. It usually takes about 2 seconds for the phone to respond to any key. Calling a contact from address book requires a click on address_book which takes at least 5 secs to load, then filtering the required contact from an entire list would take 1 second for every alphabet. I end up spending 15-20 secs just trying to find a contact and call him/her. The "call log" feature which can be handy to call frequently dialed numbers is not very useful. My sidekick showed dialed, received and missed call in a single list with different colors. It was very easy to track down the calls. For e62, there are different lists for each and I have to scroll between these lists to find the number. Loading of every list again takes a couple of seconds which makes it very very frustrating to call.
The resolution on the phone is awesome and viewing pics on the big screen is better than sidekick or blackberry. I think the camera would have made the phone heavier and bigger. I did not use the camera a lot on my sidekick so I have no issues with it. Sound quality for mp3 player and media player is pretty good but it is not stereo. The handsfree kit also has only one earpiece so it feels very weird listening to songs on it. I installed a divx player to play movies on it and it was ok for small files but quite jerky on actual movies. But honestly, I havent come across any person who would use such a professionally looking device for playing songs or movies. It supports j2me and symbian software downloads so I did try a bunch of them only to be disappointed with the speed.
The inbuilt browser is pretty fast but again the user interface sucks. It does not remember the typed data in the forms when I hit a back button. It has a mouse controlled by joystick but it just acts funny sometimes. Fetching a website is pretty fast but loading the browser itself is very slow. It usually takes about 20 seconds to get the browser loaded and the url typed. I tried using the Google maps software on it, but it would pop in a ?do u want to allow application to access internet? question every 2 seconds which makes it useless. maps.google.com site does not work on the browser, so I end up using mapquest.
There is no wi-fi so Skype is out of question. Even on E61, I seriously doubt if the processor-hogging Skype will even load on the device let alone make and receive calls.
The voice quality is pretty good and the other person can actually understand what I am saying and vice-versa. Sidekick had a huge drawback on that. 5 percent of the calls would drop, 20 percent of the other time no one would understand what I am talking.
So to summarize the phone has excellent voice quality, but very slow processor which makes the entire user interface frustating. If nokia guys wanted to target the pda-phone using community, then the user interface will not make blackberry folks happy and the speed (or the lack of it) will not make the palm/sidekick users happy.
I am pretty close to returning the phone back to cingular and eBay for a cheap used sidekick or T-mobile dash.
Me and my supervisor (huge blackberry fan) bought the phone at the same time and we both faced the same issues so chances of faulty device not very likely.
Sorry nokia, I had real high hopes on you but you let me down.5 out of 6 users found this user opinion helpful.

Summary: I'm entering my second full month with my e62 on my hip. I was impressed with screen quality, email synchronization, and overall phone quality. While the form-factor is not as slick as Treo or Q, the e62 does pass for a 'small-ish' smartphone/PDA. The blocky feel does take a bit of time to get used to though.. I found a nice case on eBay which carries the device horizontally which makes transport a breeze since putting the device in your pocket is not really a viable option.
Battery life on this thing is amazing. I get a full 4-5 days of battery life w/ about 45min of phone use and 75+ emails per day synching every 15 mins.
As a heavy business tool user I run devices through their paces.. Overall, I'm pleased with e62 and would recommend it....4 out of 4 users found this user opinion helpful.

Summary: This is my new favorite phone. The Nokia e-series products are the best smartphones overall. You have to check out all the features like the killer browser. You can browse full websites quickly. The email just works, no hassles. The battery life is great, I'm getting like 2-3 days before having to recharge. Much better than Treo/Q/Winmobile. Wish it had wifi... but don't really need that.

Summary: The E62 is painfully slow. There is no support from Cingular or Nokia. Infact, all support from Cingular has ended. In less then 5 months, the phone went from $200 to only $29.
Every task on the E62 is incredibly slow making the phone a pain to use. For business use, just forget it.
The phone's firmware was crippled by Cingular making most of the features worthless. Internet usage is slow or nonexisted since Cingular came out with other phones using 3G. They actually banned features on the internet on the E62 because of this.
Do yourself a favor, buy something else and don't waste the money.
I'm just someone who owned the phone and wants to pass on some helpfull information to keep others from making the same mistake I did by buying the E62. If you want some more owners opinions on how bad the E62 is, check out Cingular's Forums where owners talk about all the problems that plague the E62.2 out of 2 users found this user opinion helpful.
