The good: Nokia's Lumia 822 delivers 4G LTE and a nice 8-megapixel camera, and adds 16GB of onboard storage with room for 64GB more.
The bad: A heavy build and rough, scratchy call quality detract from the Lumia 822's overall appeal.
The bottom line: The Nokia Lumia 822 offers a very good value for Verizon, but if you're into stylish design and spotless call quality, this isn't the phone for you.

Growing in the right direction.

Pros: Nice screen. Decent battery life. Reasonably easy to use but I would suggest looking up the user manual and downloading it. Excellent accuracy on the speech-to-text feature (better accuracy than Android or Siri, imo).
Cons: Phone is slightly thicker than I like. A bit of a learning curve coming from Apple/Android - more "refined" interface than Android, but not quite as refined as Apple's OS, but, you're not tied in to iTunes, either! Lack of non-major apps.

The Nokia 822 has a very nice, bright, screen. Decent size that isn't too large for a pocket, but slightly bulky in terms of thickness. The call quality is a 7.5 on a scale of 10 with signal strength being good but not among the best. 4G speeds seem very good with good signal. The Nokia maps work well for navigating roads when a dedicated GPS isn't available. Battery life is slightly better than average by smart phone standards, especially if you turn off unneeded background updating apps.
Android can at times be an uncontrolled mess. Apple goes too far telling people what they should have, based on what Apple thinks they should have. Windows 8 phone OS offers a bit more flexibility than Apple, but not the same level of customization as Android, so it may still seem slightly restrictive to some. The app store has most of the primary major apps but chances are your hometown news station won't be coming out with a Win8 very soon, too. The text-to-speech voice recognition however, is excellent (hold the front window button down on the front of the phone to pull up that menu).
For those who don't want the wildness of Android, or the Stalin-like control of Apple, Windows 8 and the Nokia 822 offer a good mix of a pocketable phone with decent features. You'll be disappointed if you are the type to have 300 apps on your phone - chances are many will not be available in Win8 format (yet), but it's a growing and evolving system.5 out of 5 users found this user opinion helpful.

Summary: This is my first windows phone and I've been eying it since Windows Phone 8 came out a few weeks back. Verizon only has 2 Windows phone at the time, HTC Windows Phone 8X and Lumia 822. I compared both, and I have to admit while the HTC has the better display, the Nokia was worth every penny. It's not a super high resolution display, but the colors are great, and video and camera shots look very clean. Actually the hardware specs beyond the display are very comparable to the high end Android phones out there.
The phone is easy to use, super fast, and no it does not have all the fancy options like iOS and Android, but than again, this is Windows Phone, not those others. The Windows OS will evolve, no question about it.
I don't see apps as being a huge issue, I have about 75% of the apps I used on a regular basis from my Android on my Windows phone.
The design of the phone is not fancy, and it would be nice if it were a little slimmer, but I don't like these huge phones that are out now, so this is smaller compared to all the others at Verizon. This phone really isn't all that big, the design is pretty deceiving, and I think the phone is pretty light.
I'm pretty impressed with the software. If you are a Windows ecosystem person, then the integration with Skydrive and office is a great feature. I still use my Gmail email, contacts and calendar that integrated no problem into the phone. I was also able to sync up with my work Exchange very easily.
Overall, the phone is just easy, no fuss. I don't think its a step backwards in technology, but a step to the side. It's just different, and some people have a hard time with change.4 out of 4 users found this user opinion helpful.

A phone for those frustrated with the "Big 2"

Pros: The new Windows Phone operating system is intuitive and pleasant to use. The apps that were most dear to me on my Android device are already available. Everything runs smoothly on the Nokia's dual-core processor.
Cons: Not as many "niche" apps available yet for Windows. Many of the existing apps are second rate.
Summary: A great phone for those who are frustrated with Android's chaos and Apple's narcissism and greed.

In the end, the Nokia-Microsoft alliance has produced exactly what people like me have been waiting for: a smart, highly functional smartphone, that is a pleasure to use. A really good phone!

Pros: Microsoft Office, and Skydrive built in as well as the Nokia apps.
Cons: It may be just me, but when I type a word and have a typo in the middle, I have to retype the whole word. The speakers sound tinny.

It does everything I want. I love having the ability to edit all my word documents and Excel spreadsheets and then emailing them.
The Windows OS is a breath of fresh air for me. I have been playing around with it for about a week and I think I am getting to the point where I have everything where I want it. The camera is taking me more time to get used to however. Pros: SIZE; Call quality (CNET's review says otherwise, but maybe there was an update); Sensitive touch; Nokia apps/support; Price; Runs smoothly (fast processor); Wireless charging; etc.
Cons: None for me, and I am a heavy user. CNET review says call sound is scratchy... maybe their was an update because the first call I made on it the person on the other end immediately commented on how good/clear my voice sounded.

Summary: The Nokia Lumia 822 is a great phone for it's price and size, and just all around. It comes preloaded with the same great apps and support that most Nokia phones have, particularly it's GPS navigation with turn by turn voice directions - it works great and was recently updated. Also, several free apps like Pandora w/ a 1 year free subscription. Windows Phone 8 has come a long way just in recent months with big time apps, it now has every app I had on my Android and in some cases the apps are much better. I have had no problems with this phone, not in any way.
I love this phone.
If you want a small WP8 at a great price with Verizon, this is the way to go. I would recommend it over any non-Nokia WP8 because of Nokia's dedication to the OS. HTC and particularly Samsung are not as invested.

Pros: Sharp, easy-to-read, high-contrast screen. Windows 8 OS is way better than the work-in-progress feel of Android and its not an Apple product. Easy integration with basically everything.
Cons: Headphone jack wore out after fewer than 6 months. Speakers sound tinny.

Summary: I couldn't wait to ditch my Droid X. I wanted a smartphone, but I find Apple pretentious. I love the Nokia 822. The new Windows 8 OS is much easier to use once you get Android out of your head. It easily connects to Facebook, LinkedIn, Twitter, multiple emails, etc. All of your contacts across networks are linked. Social media integration is awesome. You can update a status, tag and upload a picture, even check friends' statuses without ever actually opening Facebook. The Live Tiles allow at-a-glance review of new emails, social media messages, texts, and voicemails. Overall, I find myself rarely using any apps because all of the information is presented right from the OS. Additionally, the Nokia-specific apps are excellent. The map and navigation apps, HERE Maps and HERE Drive+, are excellent compared to other phones. Maps are preloaded and stored on the device, allowing navigation without cell service. Unfortunately, it does not have a native YouTube app, although that might be Google's doing, not Microsoft. It does not have the gazillion apps that Apple has or the half a gazillion that Android has, but all the important ones are there, besides, you should probably be working anyway. It doesn't have iTunes, but I prefer Rhapsody anyway.
Nokia could have improved the external speaker. It does have poor, tinny sound quality. The phone itself is of high quality. I have dropped it multiple times without any noticeable damage. It is on the heavy side, but not prohibitively heavy. (It is an once heavier than the iPhone 5.) I find it interesting that CNET calls the iPhone a "sharp" design and the 822 a "boring" design because I think they look similar. While call quality is no perfect, I don't find it any worse than any other cellphone I have ever had. Sometimes it is worse than others, but I think that is caused by Verizon, not the 822. The phone itself operates quickly, with almost no lag on opening apps (WAY less when compared to my old Droid X). -

Pros: Alright, I could go on and on, great battery life, LTE speed (35Mbps down and 15Mbps up, faster than my home internet), tiles are great, everything is organized and works smoothly. Solid phone, easy to fit in a pocket, etc. Call quality A++++
Cons: Sometime's won't load data in 3G, but reboot and it's fine. Lack of apps.

EVERY phone I had from Nokia has been DURABLE and quality built, and that's why I went with the Lumia 822 from Verizon. This phone has been EXCELLENT in almost EVERY way, yes it has its quirks, but i love the phone. I've never been an Android/iOS guy so Windows/Blackberry OS have always been my thing. Bottom line is, Windows wins all the way. The phone is quick and responsive with NO lags. I would recommend it to anyone. Thanks for reading

Summary: After having this device for a week, I'm at a crossroad. Windows Phone 8 is a great OS. Very ease to use and learn. The live titles are great, but more and more very day I start to miss the apps that I had on my last Android device. The speakers are placed on the bottom edge of the device, making for odd sound angles and most people I've call report not being able to hear me very well. Last of all, the LTE signal strength is lacking. I live a mile and a half from my closest tower, and cannot get a single bar of LTE unless I'm against a window facing the direction of the tower. My Droid RAZR I had always had at least 3 bars, if not full LTE at all times. Weird.
These are all things one and live with, and I do highly recommend the Nokia 822 to new-to-smartphone people, or those needing an escape from Android or the devil iOS, but today I used my mom's upgrade and ordered an RAZR HD for myself, which I know I will more happy with. I've been and Android user for almost 4 years now. Its hard to quit something you are so used to... -
