The good: The Nokia N8 and Symbian 3 offer a better and more enhanced user experience than previous devices. The N8 delivers excellent camera and video quality. The smartphone has solid hardware and offers 3G support for both T-Mobile and AT&T. You get free turn-by-turn navigation via Ovi Maps.
The bad: It's expensive. User interface is much improved, but still trails the competition in ease of use. The N8 can be sluggish. You only get a QWERTY keyboard in landscape mode, and there's no user-replaceable battery.
The bottom line: The Nokia N8 excels as a camera phone, and the improvements of Symbian 3 make it one of the company's best smartphones to date. However, it still has its shortcomings and an expensive price tag, making it a hard sell for the North American market.

Summary: As a previous owner of other rival phones (e.g.- iPhone, Android, Blackberry), I am extremely satisfied with the overall performance of Nokia's new arrival, the N8. After a week of use, I find myself being continuously impressed and rarely disappointed. Its most stand-out feature, of course, being the beefy 12 MP Carl Zeiss camera. The capabilities and features embodied in this addition rival most stand-alone digital cameras. The editing tools and other options, via apps and widgets pertaining to the camera, just add to the already impressive capabilities of the hardware.
Also, the Cymbian^3 OS is an improvement from previous Nokia OSs and it is way ahead of its competitors in terms of stability and overall function. Most surprising is the ease at which the phone can be navigated and settings can be modified. Like with most open-source phones, every ounce of memory and seemingly limitless control is at the user's fingertips. The interface is very easy-to-use and Nokia provides many useful tips in the form of notifications, which can be disabled if necessary, to inform the user about some capabilities that may be passing them by.
Going back to hardware, the phone has a number of convenient attributes. The scratch-resistant, and nearly damage-proof, gorilla glass screen is something all phones should consider using in the future. This is one of the few phones that manages to combine durability and responsiveness, without making any sacrifices. The HDMI and mini-USB jacks are a wonderful addition as well when you consider the opportunities they provide.
I could continue to praise every little thing about this phone, but I should conclude with a few notable shortcomings. Most apparent, especially for those who previously owned an iPhone or Android phone, would be the severe lack of apps on the Ovi store. Those users interested in frivolous, time-wasting apps will not be satisfied with the currently destitute app store. Although many of the apps and widgets available are not geared toward fun as much as function, previous users of those app-rich phones might feel lost in the world of Nokia. Another downfall is the standard web browser for the N8. Its clunky, non-responsive operations seem out of place in the phone's otherwise efficient OS. Fortunately, Nokia is aware of this issue and it is something that can easily be improved via a simple update. Finally, like many phones of its kind, battery life may prove to be a hindrance. It is difficult to say that the battery life of the N8 is any worse than any of its competitors and users can easily figure out ways of improving battery life. I only note this because I have been led to believe, by several reviews, that this phone boasted an extremely long battery life, while what I am experiencing is average at best.
In closing, I can honestly say that this is the best phone that I have ever used in terms of overall capability, reliability, and durability. Those of you looking for the next big thing, deciding between the iPhone or Android, or even just looking to try something new, I implore you to give the Nokia N8 a shot. You won't be disappointed.

Really good phone, if you want an all round package
by mukandi on October 7, 2010
Pros: Firstly the outstanding quality of the N8 is the built quality. The 12MP camera takes great still and true 720p video at 25fps like most camcorders. The N8 has good signal strength and I have not had any dropped call on T-mobile. Nokia N8 is fast.
Cons: The initial set up can be long if you are not used to the Symbian OS which like any smartphone OS is flexible and customisable. On removable battery at the moment the phone seems stable no issues with crashes.
Summary: I really like the way the phone feels in my hand to start with. It has the killer feature of connecting the phone to my 42" HD TV and playing ...
Summary: I really like the way the phone feels in my hand to start with. It has the killer feature of connecting the phone to my 42" HD TV and playing video recording using an HDMI cable. Symbian has lots of apps not just from the Ovi store but from all over the internet. Generally the phone is great and buying it unlocked can be a bite on the pocket you do get a 2 year warranty from Nokia.

- Build quality and design
- USB on the Go (Transfer and play files directly from USB stick!)
- HDMI out with Divx support
- Free Ovi maps with navigation and offline use for life!Cons: OS/Symbian3 took some time to get use to (I had IPhone 3GS before), but now it works like a charm!

Summary: I am a father and want to capture and share all the precious moments that happens when you least expect them! This phone is the answer to all my prayers! Was some days with fiddling around the UI (been a IPhone user for two years), but now it feels great. Tip! Get PixelPipe from the Ovi Store on your N8! Great and free application for sharing your photos and videos with YouTube, Flickr, Facebook, Dropbox, and a number of other social media sharing sites! :)

A week with my Nokia N8

...There has been tons of positive reviews so I'll just include my two cents which was helpful for me :D
GPS....I have no mobile internet plan and mostly rely on the N8's GPS. To do so press the menu key, settings, Application Settings, positioning, positioning methods, and turn off Assisted GPS. You do need the internet for maps and downloading the navagation voice.
30FPS video recording and uncompressed images mod - This mod can be easily uninstalled and takes more effort in installing. The mod is a sis file and the sis file needs to be signed in order to install. Things you will need when installing is a cert, key, and an application tool that'll sign the mod.
...Anyway I'm really glad I've purchased this device. So far I haven't had any major difficulties and would recommend this to anyone wanting a great camera phone.4 out of 4 users found this user opinion helpful.

I searched for THE best phone I could buy, and got it!
by marcco68 on April 21, 2011
Pros: Made from high-end parts, Carl Zeiss lens to gorilla glass. Useful apps. It's my first Nokia and using Symbian. Stylish like iPhone but smart like Android. Love the radio/FM transmitter, Bluetooth3, XenonFlash and 12mpx? Better than my digital cam.
Cons: Few people have it here in the US so I don't have many people to seek advice. Other than that, LOVE this phone!
Summary: I've had all kinds of phones and this does things that the others are just starting to advertise as their "new features". If you want the sleekest most beautiful ...

In Ovi store there are some good applications, and older symbian applications from the web often seem to run on N8 too... I like the start screen, useful and easy to modificate. Summary: I've bought this phone about 2 weeks ago. It is so solid in my hand and there's no other phones as good as this phone like holding. No drop calls whatever position, not even a single drop call. No jacket is needed for d gorilla glass and aluminium body. It can handle upto 41 apps,I've tested it no lags, but I only put like 4 heavy apps. It's a good sign dat UI works pretty well with the processor. Another outstanding features of N8 are wifi hotspot(via apps). FM transmitter and file exchange with USB on the go(Note:U can use mouse or keyboard with this too.
LOL god try man for the noobs playing with the multiple accounts, your story is so rediculous
Web browsing is superb. Flash works well on it. Ovi maps v3.06 beta is super kool with the offer of smooth pinch-in-zoom, night mode, 3D view, landmarks and many +apps features :). Battery is outstanding, I browse webs, listen to music a lot and talk a lot, at the end of the day, d battery still shows 100% ***!!

Summary: if you want a phone that's a great camera which crashes when you start to think you have a smart phone the speaker is on the camera side (backso when you are watching a video you have to cup your hand around the back to redirect the sound but it comes with great headphones
Exactly 1 hr after I wrote this review my N8 bricked on me I don't know how or why. I tried to update the OS and there was none. When I called Nokia I spoke with Sam in the tech dpt then Rachael in sales then Mark in sales who hung up on me after he heard "N8" I then spoke to some one in the "N8" dpt and then finally I spoke to someone back in sales who promptly emailed a shipping slip and a prepaid bar code for FedEx Im getting a refund and then I'll wait for a month or two befor I reorder a green one
