The good: The Nokia N82 features a 5-megapixel camera that produces high-quality photos and videos. The Symbian smartphone also has integrated Bluetooth, Wi-Fi, GPS, and good call quality.
The bad: The N82's hardware feels a bit cheap, and the dialpad and navigation controls are cramped and difficult to use. It also doesn't support U.S. 3G bands and it's pricey.
The bottom line: The Nokia N82 has some annoying design flaws and lacks 3G support, but our lasting impression of the N82 is of a powerful multimedia smartphone with an excellent imaging capabilities and solid performance.

Nice piece of tech

Summary: great phone over-all.. switched over from an n95 and an n70. great phone. fast, slick, great menus and very responsive. like a lot of reviews on the web i didn't find it difficult to use the slim buttons at the bottom. they are quite spaced out for better functionality. I was a bit dissapointed at the way it looks.. hope they come out with a black model. I'd love this in black. lots of functions.. great gaming.. (though primitive) love the speakerphone volume. battery life sucks if you go to use all the applications. i had to charge it atleast once a day. great camera, love the resolution of the picures. and am surprised it focusses just fine in the dark
. xenon flash is brilliant. illuminates a small room very well.
overall a good improvement over the n95.. (though you don't realise the screen size difference after a day or so).
I'd surely recommend.Updated
reducing the rating a bit now.. because just after 2 weeks of useage. the phone has hung a couple of times while accessing the camera. i had to restart the phone (removing the battery is the only option.. all the buttons freeze). .hopefully htis isn't a major problem.. or i'll have to seek replacement.4 out of 5 users found this user opinion helpful.

Summary: I LOVE this phone! I recently got another phone so I could listen to my music...unfortunately I found out it would not play DRM-encrypted music. Since almost all of my music comes from Napster To Go and the local public library, this made the phone pretty useless for me. Then I found this phone. Not only does it let me use these subscription services, it also allows me to surf the web for free with WiFi! There are so many great things about this phone!
The only problem, and it's a minor one, is the keypad. It's not conducive to quick or accurate typing, but the rest of the phone is so great, who cares!Updated
While it's not the perfect phone, it comes awfully close. I wanted a phone that would allow me to surf the net and listen to my DRM-protected audiobooks, and, after a lot of frustration with other phones, I finally found this one. I LOVE this phone. It's not very sexy, true, and the keys take a bit of getting used to, but this phone does everything I need it to do (and more). No buyer's remorse here!2 out of 2 users found this user opinion helpful.

Summary: At first, I had planned to get the Nokia n95, till I saw threads of N95 vs N82. The advantages of the N95 was that it had a bigger screen and a nice design. Advantages for the N82 was that it takes nicer pictures, cheaper then the N95, and does about everything the N95 does.
I purchased the N82 from http://smart-mobile-gadgets.com with a 4 year warranty. The thing that almost prevented me from purchasing the n82 was the keypad, but after a day of using it I'm able to drive and text with one hand. Also the pictures it takes are awesome, especially at night with bad lighting conditions. The N82 came bundled with Adobe PDF reader, office viewer, and real player.
The only bad thing I didn't like with this phone was that it is unable to stand on it's side. The camera has a self timer, you'd have to purchase a tripod from ebay or something to use that feature.
This phone isn't for everyone. It depends on what your looking for in a phone. If your looking for a phone to browse online at ease, the N82 is capable of doing so, but may not be as good as the Iphone. If your looking for something made out of metal, then you should check out the Nokia 8800 Arte which is made out of stainless steel and has a scratch resistant screen. If your looking for something cheap, then obviously this isn't the phone for you.
If you do purchase the n82, make sure you purchase some sort of cover or case for your N82. I suggest buying the invisible shield from www.zagg.com, you'll be glad you did. Also join the club at www.everythingn82.com for questions or talk with other N82 users. Overall I think the N82 was well worth my money.
On the side note, cnet stated that this unit doesn't support US 3G. We shouldn't put the this phone for not supporting US 3G, instead we should look down on US 3G for not keeping up with modern times. Europe and some other countries such as the Philippines has the ability to do video calls, while US is falling behind because we're too busy calling ourselves number 1.1 out of 1 users found this user opinion helpful.

jsknight - A perfect upgrade for S60 Series 3 fans

Pros: jsknight - Tons of great applications available for this phone, easy to migrate data & contacts over.
Cons: jsknight - Not as outwardly stylish as some high-end Nokia phones.

Summary: Anyone paying $600 for a non-iPhone these days is looking for style and performance. This is a pretty good balance of both. Since high-end Nokia's aren't too common in the US they do turn a lot of heads and don't have the sugar-candy trendy aspect of the iPhone. It's a great multimedia phone if you like converting DVDs to 3GP video. Some people might be hoping for a little more with the price though.

Summary: This smartphone is really feature-packed. It has everything you might expect from Symbian 9.2 and more. The best cameraa out there, 3G, Wi-Fi, e-mail with exchange support (update from site), exceptional quility of music player, integrated GPS, solid battery life, and a lot more in one package. As far as features go it is truly remarkable.
It's very responsive and easy to use. The keys seem unusual at first and cause quite a few mistakes the first few days. But it's a fast learning process with this phone and in a week you don't really mind.
The only serious grudge I have with this phone is I wish voice clarity would be better. It's passable but I know it's better on other Nokia N-series phones. Here, it's muffled, there is too much middle and basses. For this drawback alone I give it 8 instead of 10 that it would deserve otherwise. Also, the front panel could be made of sturdier material, something to match the looks - but this is minor.1 out of 1 users found this user opinion helpful.

Lots of technology crammed into cheap packaging

Summary: I wish I could say I loved this phone, but sadly I didn't. I had it for almost a month before returning it. I was extremely pleased with the camera, which was awesome, the S60 OS, which, while far from perfect, is pretty good for a smartphone-in-a-regular-phone-package layout like this, but the hardware just killed me. Come on Nokia, why do you always have to be changing things up? Those tiny buttons are an impossible pain to text with, and because the front is shiny, you can't see the letters above the keys in daylight. Now, I know many people have them memorized, but I don't, and this made it hard to text (on top of the buttons just being hard to press). On top of that, the d-pad always felt like it was going to pop off, the case was creaky, and that annoying "media button" always managed to intercept my right-softkey presses. I know I'm not alone in the quality issues I observed with this phone, and I just wish that for $500, you got a much higher quality phone. Shame on you Nokia, I'm getting the Samsung G810 when it's (finally) out.

Summary: Never had any problems with GPS. I don't find the hardware to be cheap. You need to get used to to keypad. Symbian programs tend to freeze or crash and that can be annoying... But all in all it's a good reliable phone. It's a decent replacement for digital camera. I have had dozen phones aside N82 in the last three years, but somehow this one is a keeper.
