The good: The Nokia N86 8MP features an 8-megapixel camera that takes excellent pictures and include advanced options, such as a wide-angle lens and variable aperture. It's also a capable smartphone and offers Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, GPS, and 3G support.
The bad: The N86 is expensive. Compared with the competition, the phone's display is a bit low resolution and the software feels outdated.
The bottom line: If you can afford it, the Nokia N86 8MP is one of the more advanced and better camera phones on the market today, but there are cheaper alternatives.

Last Nokia I would ever buy
by chapmandrew on July 13, 2011
Pros: This phone is a great all rounder.
Cons: The speaker broke three times and was eventually given a new phone which has had the same problem twice. This problem was clearly a design floor and all phones should be recalled. My phone has spent more time in for repairs than I have had to use the phon

Summary: I've always liked Nokia's for the simple and user friendly software. But every Nokia smartphone I've ever owned ive had problems with especially this one. Thus I'will never buy a Nokia again due to this problem. Nokia or my service provider Vodacom would not give me my money back. I suggest you take this seriously!

Summary: I generally like the outlook of this phone and I bought it because I liked phones with keypads. However, just one week into getting this phone, I turned on the GPS and then there will be a menu that pops out n keeps blinking whenever I switched to another application and get back to the GPS application. Since I had to head back overseas to study, I didn't send it for repair. Just into 2 months of using it, one day I discovered that the On/Off button wasn't working and the phone wouldn't Lock the Keypad as it would normally. Just in less than 12 hours time, the phone just turned off on its own and because the button was no longer working, I couldn't use it at all. Thinking that being a global company, Nokia would provide international care for its customers, I was appalled by the fact that the Customer Service assistant did not show initiative in providing the service at all. They did not have the slightest intention at all. Thus, I had to courier it back home and asked my dad to send it to the Customer Service Centre back home. After going through huge amount of hassles, and it was finally sent to repair, I only used it for 9 days and it was the SAME PROBLEM THAT OCCURRED months ago. They installed a new Map that did not allow me to zoom in to the level where I could've zoomed in previously. I admit that it was y fault for having it accidentally had water poured over it but please Nokia, I was your loyal customer and because of this I have already lose all my confidence as I might pay hundreds of dollars and get another defected phone.

Excellent Camera Phone
by andrew_lim on August 6, 2010
Pros: I'm using oftware version 30.009 (29 March 2010).
- Great camera. Much better than my HTC Hero.
- WiFi and 3G connectivity work well. Browsing is quick with Opera Mobile 10.
- Solid build. Back cover feels really good. AMOLED display is pleasing.Cons: - No Xenon flash.
- Front screen a bit fingerprint prone.
- Keys and buttons take a little getting used to and feel hard to press at the beginning.. But they become easier to press over time.Summary: If you're looking for a good camera phone AND smart phone, this is one of the best phones out there until the Nokia N8 arrives.

I have an Android phone, HTC Hero, but I still find myself using the N86 even though the Android UI looks much better. This is because the Hero has issues with my router WAG54G2. The Hero also seems to take a while to use the mobile network. The Nokia N86 on the other hand has none of these issues.
The camera is sweet. I've almost no complaints with it except for night photos, where a Xenon flash would really have helped. -

Summary: At this price, the screen is unreadable in the sun. I can't read the navigation system at all or messages or type messages..what a waste of money ! I am angry and feel ripped off.
The music player is awkward to transfer files to.
And generally this is a gadget that does not deserve a good review. If you know of a way for me to get my money back from Nokia for selling a product that wasn't ready for the market please let me know. do not buy this phone. Even though i have been loyal to Nokia for more than 6 years...this mobile is terrible. -

Compact, Full Feature Smart Phone
by ibn_turab on September 30, 2009
Pros: 1) 8.0 megapixel Camera
2) Wifi -- not only can you surf using this, You can actually turn the N86 in a wireless LAN using Joiku ,
3) GPS -- Nokia lets you download the world to your phone for Free !!!!Cons: 1) Slider Design may not appeal to all humans
2) Camera not as Good as Nokia N82 [ still is the reigning king of camera phones ]
2) Does not help with mind control, Must master the jedi ways firstSummary: If your looking for a full feature high quality camera phone that has a small footprint, then the N86 is for you. The 8.0 megapixel camera has you covered ...
Summary: If your looking for a full feature high quality camera phone that has a small footprint, then the N86 is for you. The 8.0 megapixel camera has you covered whenever a photo opportunity comes along. The camera is protected with a lens cover which I think is a must for any real camera phone. Being able to take panaramic photos neat and easily accomplished thanks to built in software. The video recording is also great 640x480 and doesn't look too bad either [for a cellphone]. One of the coolest features involves using a program called Joiku [free ] that turns your n86 into a wireless LAN [ this also works with n95 n85 n82 and many others]. Also, the built in GPS and the free World maps available for download from Nokia is great [ but you will have to pay for turn by turn navigation]. The battery life is also excellent. Setting up my yahoo email was easy and the phone does all the work. I'm not into social networking sites but flickr settings were already there. Surfing the net is easy to do and you can watch youtube videos with the built in browser. But I really don't do any serious surfing with my phones. Like many of you know, I already have a netbook and computers surround me everywhere I go. The most important thing is that this is a great camera phone [ the 8.0 mpl camera will do nicely to prove that aliens exist] ; its small, easily-carried, and simple to use, and has all the bells and whistles. And probably the best thing of all is that I will probably not run into another person in the US that has the same phone.

Pros: Long battery life, High quality camera, Active kickstand. etc etc
Cons: No Navi-wheel. Dont understand why it wasn't included.
Summary: Can live with-out the navi-wheel cause the phone is a real strong performer.
